Re: The Nuzlocke Challenge
Ok, I have an awkward dilemma.
I'm in Mt. Moon (still) and just lost Neo to the RNG (Rattata got a critical hit.) Ok, kind of bothersome, but I'll figure something out. Already being a fair ways in, I decided I could just press on, and release Neo from Cerulean.
And then, not a minute later, I find a Revive.
Can I use the Revive on Neo? Or should I toss/sell it?
If it must be sold, must I catch a new Mon here and now? Or can I wait 'till Neo is interred?

Re: The Nuzlocke Challenge
I think the rule of thumb regarding revives is that if you use a revive on a Nuzlocke run, people wearing black will come to your house and break your thumb...
Generally, you can only catch the first pokemon met in an area. If you fail to catch it, you lose the opportunity to catch a pokemon in that area. If you can leave the area before your first encounter, by all means dispose of your dead first, but if not, just go for the catch and put it in the party when you get a chance (assuming you catch it, of course)...

Re: The Nuzlocke Challenge
Started a new run, and being able to speed up battles x100 helps a lot with grinding. Don't have the pokemon in front of me, but I've got a full team plus some in box, with front runners of my group being Davy, a Croconaw, and Steph, a monstrosity of a Jigglypuff. Seriously that thing is crazy.
Currently in Goldenrod City.
My pokemon, in order of appearance.
Davy, lvl 22 Croconaw
Steph, lvl 25 Jigglypuff, initially only had Sing, now dominates with Defense Curl-Rollout
Betty, lvl 21 Beedrill
Britney, lvl 17 Zubat
Jake, lvl 5 Unown (box)
Danny, lvl 12 Ekans (box)
Jenny, lvl 21 Fearow
Dwayne, lvl 19 Geodude
Norman, lvl 5 Togepi (box)
Whiskers, lvl 11 Ratata (box)

Re: The Nuzlocke Challenge
So no revives. Drat.
My rule on encounters is a tad bit different though; If I have less than six 'mons in the party, I must take the first ones that come along (I can skip the ones I already have however) until I have a full complement. In my current location, that means either a Paris, or MAYBE (If the Random Numbers God takes pity on me) a Clefairy.
Technically, on one hand, with Neo gone I only have 5, and therefore must take the first new 'mon to come along. On the other hand, Neo's corpse still occupies a party slot, and I have no way to be rid of it currently... Which means I can wait and at least pick where and when I get a replacement for Neo.
EDIT: Finally decided on a compromise. I decided to catch the first Paras and the first Clefairy I saw and pick between them when I got there.
Got to Cerulean, wiped the floor with Orrin's face (my rival), disposed of deceased Pikachu.
Current Party:
Lvl 10 "Splenda" F Clefairy
Lvl 11 "Bailey" F Spearow
Lvl 12 "Robin" M Zubat
Lvl 12 "FlutterGuy" M Butterfree
Lvl 14 "Adrian" F Geodude
Lvl 16 "Sparkles" F Wartortle

Re: The Nuzlocke Challenge
Gosh, I've done a lot. Let me see.
I beat Misty. Got on the S.S. Anne and got Cut, wiped the floor with Orrin's face. Beat Lt. Surge. Got through Rock Tunnel. Got an Eevee, did some grinding, wiped the floor with Orrin's face (again!) Currently working through the Team Rocket HQ.
The Deceased:
Splenda, the F Clefairy (Lost in the Misty fight)
Bailey, the F Spearow
Selena, the F Meowth
Bane, the M Oddish
Kyle, the M Meowth (That's right, I blew through TWO. Hrmph.)
Robin, the M Golbat (FFFFFFFF.......)
Rest In Peace...
The Current Party:
Lvl 18 "Pip" M Dratini
Lvl 26 "Stayne" M Vileplume
Lvl 27 "Wedge" M Pidgeotto
Lvl 27 "Evalite" F Jolteon
Lvl 27 "Adrian" F Graveler
Lvl 29 "Sparkles" F Wartortle
Yes, there's an empty slot in my party (I've been avoiding grass) that I really ought to go fill with something... contemplating picking up an Abra at the Casino. Or maybe a Dratini... Went ahead and splurged.

Game Over
Yeah that's right, lost Sparkles at level 33, just outside of Fuschia. *sniff*
Not gonna bother starting over; I'm starting to get pretty feed up with Nuzlocke. I'm just gonna carry on from here and forget about it.
Might try it again some other time on a different game though...

Bleh. I'm sorry... not much I can say here that doesn't sound trite, but seriously, I'm sorry for your loss. Especially since it was a female starter... XP

Re: The Nuzlocke Challenge
Your terrible loss has inspired me.
White 2 Nuzlocke, with some difficulty-raising variant rules.
And I'll see how I can do with this.
White 2 Nuzlocke, with some difficulty-raising variant rules.
- rules abiding:
1) Find-Replace "fainted" -> "died". I may keep a Graveyard in Box 13 of my favourite dead pokemon.
2) Whited-Out -> Your pokemon were all killed, but you recover in a ditch. No game over for you, keep playing without your best 'mons.
3) First pokemon in an area only. If it dies or flees, no pokemon for me.
4) All pokemon must be nicknamed something positive (no "HM Slave 1")
5) Each dreamworld area is considered an area, thus, 6 pokemon total can come from the dream world.
5.5) The aforementioned "first meeting" rule still applies, only the first one met in any given dream landscape.
6) Areas do not count until you have full control of the battle (before pokeballs, and in NPC teams, no pokemon may be caught)
7) Shinies are exempt from all these rules. If I find a shiny, I'm keeping it.
Kill all legendaries.
9) No pseudo-legendaries.
9.5) If a possible one is caught, it must be handed an Everstone if it evolves into one, otherwise it is auto-Graveyarded.
10) The starter Pokemon is in a coma: As soon as dreamworld is accessible, they fall unconscious, never to awaken.
And I'll see how I can do with this.

You're doing a deicide, huh? I've been considering doing something that's kinda the opposite: in order to win, I must catch, but not use, all the non-event legendaries.

Re: The Nuzlocke Challenge
Strictly speaking, I know in White you need to catch (not kill, won't let you progress and respawns instantly) at least one legendary which would break the Nuzlocke. If that case arises (I've never finished White2) I'll deal with it as it does. I'll do a little story update per gym.
The story so far...
Expired Encounters: The farm: Killed first encounter (no one likes patrat).
Dreamworld: Ice Cave used.
Celeste began with Luna as her pokemon, and soon came upon Night Wing, a noble dark cat. They explored together, and brought Discord, her childhood friend, his Town Map. Team Plasma was trying to steal pokemon, but were warded off by Luna's serene grace. By a mysterious man named Alder's prompting, she was thrust into the pokemon tyrant challenge, but in her first major match, the fierce battle with Tyrant Trainer Cheren, Luna suffered a hard blow, fell unconscious, and has yet to wake. In his gloating, we learned Alder was head of the Tyrants, a league of pokemon murderers. We pushed Cheren from his lofty ledge onto the jagged rocks below his battle stage, his identification badge falling with a clack to Celeste's feet. She ignored it for now, and runs over to Luna, in tears as the pokemon breathes weakly, unconscious. Hopefully she dreams of strong and noble pokemon. Upon checking into the pokemon center with Luna, a sandshrew watched, sad, from outside the window. Celeste invited it in, it appeared to have been watching Luna for a while as they walked about in the past, and was worried for her health. Seeing the scene, a nurse Audino joined in as well, to try to keep Celeste's pokemon from harm as they began their true journey.
The team so far (Defeated Cheren):
Night Wing (Lv13 Purrloin)
Knuckles (Lv10 Sandshrew)
Fluttershy (Lv4 Audino)
----
There was trouble at the mill in the next city, apparently a wild Growlithe had been harassing the local workers. Turns out it was a stray, and all it needed was a bit of kindness. Big Mac, his name was, and he fell for Celeste's charms and decided to tag along, a terminal case of puppy love.
Going onward, we were threatened by one of Tyrant Alder's henchmen, his head assasin, Roxie. She struck out at us from the wayside. Big Mac jumped in front of her surprise attack, and managed to fend off one minion, but the Elite Assassin Roxie used her poisonous pokemon and he succumbed to her toxic pins. Fluttershy grew enraged, and broke Roxie's back. We recovered the badge from her discarded body, that's two. We were at the pier, bad soil for miles, all silt and clay, nowhere to bury a friend, so we gave Big Mac a burial at sea. There, a horsea introduced itself as Lyra, and asked why we were sad. It turns out Alder had been cruel to her loved ones as well, and she agreed to come along with us for revenge for killing her Bonbon.
The team so far (defeated Roxie):
Knuckles (Lv15 Sandshrew)
Fluttershy (Lv18 Audino)
Night Wing (Lv 15 Purrloin)
Lyra (Lv 17 Horsea)
Big Mac - Deceased Lv16 Growlithe
Dream world areas used: +Sparkling Sea

Re: The Nuzlocke Challenge
I was just playing a nuzlocke game on Firered the other night. As luck would have it my first encounter in Viridian Forest was a Pickachu! I caught it easily and was gearing up to make it a core part of my team, but when I got to the nugget bridge I ran across that trainer with a Mankey. One lucky karate chop critical took my Pikachu (nickname: Ace) from full HP to 0 and now Misty's gym battle just got a lot harder.

Re: The Nuzlocke Challenge
That's rough buddy. If you're willing to risk it, Bide can wreck Misty's Starme, but it leaves you pretty open too.
Storytime! Remember, mine has no spoilers since I'm butchering the plot completely for the fun of it.
After defeating the assassin, our heroine decided she needed to cross the ocean, to find out what was really going on, and only in the big cities could that be done. She made her way to Castalia, the largest port city in the nation. The whole place is creepily obsessed with clowns, it is kind of unnerving, but one gave her a bicycle and a rare candy, so that one is cool in her books.
Apparently, a serial killer had been terrorizing the streets, though, and rumour had it that he had links to Alder. It needed investigation, so Discord and Celeste (buddy system when hunting serial killers!) went into the sewers to try to root him out. The place was swarming with zubats and rattatas. A fruity little zubat landed on Celeste's flashlight-wielding arm and fell asleep there. It was too cute not to catch, getting her a Fruit Bat zubat. Deep in the sewers, we saw him. Webbing and silks covered the walls, and grotesque paintings stuck to the sides. A man was wrapped in the web, struggling like a bug, while a crazed-looking man taunted him, painting his struggles on a canvas in red ink that Celeste hoped wasn't what she thought it was.
They took him by surprise, knocking him out cleanly and effectively, before saving the man. The freed man ran off with a compliment on our battle skill, but then the killer/painter rose up, covered in his own inks, and lashed out with his pokemon. Celeste's dispatched his with ease, but then the killer suddenly stopped, and fell, gurgling foam. A cherubi stepped atop his spasming body, triumphant grin on its face. She took it with her, and went out, to the north, this trail having gone cold. On the way out, a glimmer caught her eye. A third identification badge. There were eight, everyone knew it, that meant 5 more to go. Stepping out into the night sky, Night Wing basked in the moon's glow, resonating, and evolved into a Liepard.

Fluttershy (Lv23 Audino)
Night Wing (Lv20 Liepard)
Lyra (Lv20 Horsea)
Fruit Bat (Lv16 Zubat)
Rarity (Lv13 Cherubi)

My only thought when you said that:
@Yawnmon Re: Misty. I'd try to catch an Oddish, raise it to a Gloom. Resistance, a healing move, status moves... with a few healing items, Starmie shouldn't be killing any of your Pokemon.
@Raven:
Raise this bat, raise this bat, one two three four! Together we can raise this bat, one two three four! Up up up go those wings, grind like heck, kill all the things! Once he evolves he'll have eyes you know, he's a new partner, here we go!
Raise this bat, raise this bat, one two three four! Together we can raise this bat, one two three four! Train train train, grinding's good, working hard you're doing good, just a li'l more friendship t'go, soon a new partner, here we go!
Raise this bat, raise this bat, one two three four! Together we can raise this bat, one two three four! Flying high above the ground, they pop up he knocks 'em down, now he's evolving go with the flow, he's a new partner, here we go!

Re: The Nuzlocke Challenge
Yeah, I was aiming for the avatar reference. Nice jingle. Next level I've got a Crobat, so it might be quite appropriate.
More pokemon were caught, and a remarkably submissive and trusting venture capitalist gave me a start-up business called "Friend Avenue" to work on. Not that I have time, I've got a world to save!
But first, many, many tragedies.
Rarity was playing around the fields and was stepped on by a soccer player. She was pronounced dead at the scene at level 22.
Lyra was going strong, but in the middle of the desert, a pokemon that should not have known an electric move critical'd her with one, despite her being level 25 and him being level 21. Her fight will go on, though, and her spirit will live on!
In fact, we may have met her spirit. It tagged along with us (Spooky the Yamask). It currently haunts that free-to-use computer by the pokemon centre, for some reason.
Grizzlbran the darumaka lived as all fires do: Bright, strong, and incredibly short. Caught at level 14, died at level 14.
Happily, we added a little crocodile to our team. The little sandile was drowning in quicksand! Regida felt she owed us for rescuing her, and that she'd tag along for a bit.
Also, happy day it was, in the gardens in the big city, central park we forgot existed, an eevee made an appearance. Rare beasts they are. Naturally, we beat it to a pulp, threw 6 piles of sand in its eyes, drugged it, and then pelted it repeatedly with about 16 pokeballs. When he came to, Neptune was our prisoner. We think he might be developing stockholm syndrome, but we're going to need to invoke a form change to get it to support us, wiping its mind clean of its prior life.
No real story for Celeste's journey. The media and propaganda head of the tyrants Elesa fought hard on her live stage full of unrealistic portrayals of women using pokemon fur outfits, and the mindwashed crowd cheering her on unnerved our heroine, but Knuckles grew a spine (or fifty, evolving) and tore up Elesa's stage, her bodyguards, her outfit, and her credibility on live national television. Celeste walked over as the ravaging finished, and ripped Elesa's badge from what was left of her top, four of eight now, the tyrant leader would surely soon take notice. In memory of her lost friends, she will destroy their entire organization piece by piece. Celeste walked from that office, only to hear Elesa's crying voice far in the back, "where did I lose my way?"
Team:
Knuckles (Lv25 Sandslash)
Fruit Bat (Lv23 golbat)
Night Wing (Lv20 Liepard)
Fluttershy (Lv28 Audino)
Regida (Lv18 Sandile)
Neptune (Lv18 Eevee) (I'm aiming for Vaporeon before leveling it, which will be post-HM3, the others are too fragile unless I want Umbreon)

Re: The Nuzlocke Challenge
Gaahh, so many deaths! I do like the way you used Spooky, though; the trainer thinks it's Lyra's spirit, but it may or may not be, who knows?
