DC for cloudwalking spell? I've got to think that'd be fairly common, given that pegasi exist and walk on clouds. Im thinking Emerald should have at least a passing familiarity with such.

The reason I ask is get across the Neighara Falls. Storm can create a cloud bridge and just walk across. Or even simpler, a cloud big enough for everyone to stand on, and Storm can just push it across.

Yeah... She's no Twilight is all I'm saying. I interpret her Element of Magic use as "brute forcing" a spell she has heard about somewhere but has no idea how to cast. Sets a natural limitation.

OOC: (Unfortunately, we are limited by the nature of the beast, and the DM sets incredibly high DCs for making untyped magic, so I'd need to blow my remaining Magic Point to Element of Magic a utility, is basically the translation here. Besides, Twilight isn't a reasonable comparison point for what can be done with magic.)

Also, Rarity's wings are a utility feat, so the DC for emulating that is set to "impossible".

You never know unless you try. Also, my IW arcana check DC's might be higher, but I wouldn't call them impossible. If you're coming up with a spell or effect that is not already an established talent, then the check is fairly basic (situationally). If you are emulating a UT, then the DC is the offset for not having taken that UT in the first place- the cost for a catch-all- and it's not that much higher. If you try IW to expand upon and augment an existing UT to make it exceedingly more effective or powerful, that's when the DC starts to jump, again situationally.

Out of curiosity, what would the DC for cloudwalking be, then?

Or if you prefer to hide DCs, keeping in mind Emerald's +13 Arcana, is it in the realm of the probable for her to be able to do it? I find the book DCs for IW to have been made with powergamers and min-maxed Arcana builds in mind, and Emerald isn't quite that.

Far as I know the only book DCs were in the Magecraft revamp, and that's too overcomplicated- moreover it explicitly states that its for Arcana "specialists" of 15 Arcana skill.

As far as I'm concerned, though, anything over 10 is of reasonable specialization. My DCs are dynamic, too, and vary depending on a few factors. For a group cloudwalking I consider the following: In the show, 5 ponies cloudwalking was described as being easier to cast then the wings, regardless of skill in magic (not counting specialized fields). Dazzling wings is a UT, so using IW to emulate Dazzling Wings would net you about a DC of 21-25. Cloudwalking, being easier and not a UT, would net you 16-20. BUT, that's for individuals. Expanding it to 4 ponies means increasing it to 26-30. However, if you have someone else with IW, then you could split the load, watering down the DC jump for both casters.

So for now, we'll go with 28 to cast and maintain a cloudwalking spell for four. hardly impossible, especially with assists (though I may have to limit those based on what everyone else is doing.)

Ok, here's a small infor dump on Koli, like I promised:

Koli Notes:
Koli is a "young" Oliscomaur, relative to her species. She was born to and worshipped by an ancient cult and religion, and as time passed, succeeding cults would pick up where preceeding ones left off. She has almost never left the mountain, which was under a protective spell- it kept most threats out, as well as sacrifices in- and Koli herself, to an extent. To these ends, she is essentially an overgrown child. She doesn't truly believe herself to be a goddess, per se, but she does have a high opinion of herself and her abilities, discounting and underestimating the party's abilities- ALL of them. She is peaceful, insofar that she would rather things sacrifice themselves to her than to actively kill them. This is the primary point to run the encounter around- she wont kill them (initiate combat), but she won't let them leave either. This leads to three potential outcomes: Bad, Good, and Great outcomes.

Bad Outcome- Initiating combat. Basically, if the party decides not to bother playing her game and attacks her outright, she will fight back. This leads to either Koli being KO/d or dying, or part, if not all, of the party being ko'd/killed and eaten. Party safety not guaranteed.

Good outcome- Talking down or sating. This can be accomplished in a number of ways. Simply persuading her to let the party go, using any number of UTs, Bringing in a replacement meal, using the Orb (either bribing her with it, or using it to enhance magic/UTs), etc. Outcome is that the Party is allowed to just leave.

Great outcome- Transformation or other assistance. Using magic, the Orb, or other means to transform Koli will have varying effects depending rolls, but should ultimately "solve" the problem. Ideally, she will be willing to assist and accompany the party, but she may follow for other reasons (Like, say, because she's a spoiled child). If the time is taken to learn more about her, and Owlicorn's in general, and generally be friendly, she can be convinced to kill herself, allowing her to regenerate in her youngest form. She will also be amiable and freely assist the party, and keep her magic. If transforming through other means, she will be less apt to help, and will possibly lose her more powerful magic. Otherwise, can be persuaded, etc after making friends, and she will remain as she is, on the mountain, but offer assistance regardless.

The Bad-Good-Great is more a scale than three choices, and the outcomes of rolls can help or hinder- for example, using the Orb to boost Kanen's ability to summon animals, and rolling very well on related checks, may lead to an "almost Great" outcome, in which she offers to assist. Conversely, rolling poorly on persuasion, depending on situational considerations, could cause her to actually attack, leading to a bad outcome. The orb is a major concern, so if the archway puzzle is solved without finding it, then options will be reduced- but it isn't necessary to get a good or great ending.

There's one scrap left out of that, because you're still tiptoeing around that part. You'll figure it out soon, though.

And I've got a back issue (nearly cleared up now, I lifted a desk the wrong way on Sunday) that makes both sitting up and the standard lying-on-stomach-with-laptop posting positions quite unfortunately uncomfortable at best. I made one or two posts in the forums by phone but that is exhausting to do in-depth.

Good to know, I was almost worried Emerald joined Jaquir and Star in the negative zone. THAT would have made things tricky.

Edit: Though I think I would have preferred an IC post. But whenever you get around to it is fine.

Well I guess it doesn't count as me telling everything if you beat it out of me like that. Not sure to what effect you're using echo, but since you didn't add anything for it, I guess its just because? Also, they officially got rid of Echo and replaced it with Audiomancy:

Audiomancy - At Will
Preparation Time: Instantaneous
Do one of the following things:
-) Cause a sound to emanate from any object or space within fifty feet of you that you can see. The sound can be as loud as a shout or as quiet as a whisper
-) Alter a sound within fifty feet of you to another of similar volume. For example, you could make a shout of warning sound like a round of applause. This effect lasts until the sound naturally dies away.
-) Choose any small object within fifty feet of you that you can see(as well as where they actually are). Until your next extended rest, you can hear sounds as though your ears were in the place of that object (as well as where they actually are), though the object gives off a very faint ringing noise. This enchantment can be sensed with an Arcana check (DC 25 + your level), and the noise can be heard with a perception check (DC 20+ your level).

You can have your two TalSpec points back, since you wont need them to reduce cast time anymore.

And yes, if you really want to stop a fight, you need to break their views of each other and risk getting punched in the face. Sideline whining doesn't do much unless at least one party really cares about the whiner. Real life influences, though that game was forever ago.
