The Gameverse (Mare in the Moon)
Episode 1: Mare in the Moon.
The efforts of each and every pony had combined to make a wonderful night. The efforts of both the weather team and Wormwood made the sky clear and beautiful, The food was wonderfully prepared, the party was going readily, the townsfolk were protected, the pyrotechnics and fireworks displays were beautiful and grand... But a few ponies were worried. In Canterlot, a young mare paced, looking at the moon as a quartet of stars slowly making their way across the sky. In ponyville, a young stallion was buried in the books, unable to make hide nor hair of the myths held within.
And on the moon, the princess of the night eagerly awaited her return to the land below, and her freedom.
Each and every member of the group were praised for their hooves in the preparations, seeing various other ponies also being praised for their own. As the night stretches on, each member gets a lingering, uneasy feeling. As though something... wrong was going to happen.

Re: The Gameverse (Mare in the Moon)
Lightfoot accepted the praise as it came, saluting every time someone came over to him. He usually responded to compliments with "I am only doing my duty, sir/m'am!", "Happy to be of service!" or "But of course! I'm always watching, citizen!"
But he was hired as a guard for this event by Princess Celestia herself, so there had to be something more at work than keeping an eye on ponies at a party and stopping anyone from being too rowdy. Normally his jobs were not this high-profile, and he was expecting something bad to happen at any moment, some problem he needed to solve...
So why hasn't one? And if one isn't going to happen, why couldn't he shake this higher-than-normal sense of paranoia?

Colter dismissed the praise, trying to send it to the other members of the weather team. As the night went on, he began to feel uneasy, though he tried to push the feeling away with the festivities.

"Thank you, thank you, always nice to hear that my designs are appreciated. If you really do like them, you can buy some of your own from several of these stores..."
Copper received the praise, automatically responding with a bit of advertising - but not really noticing it. The unicorn was a little preoccupied with a strange aura of unease that seemed to plague certain ponies, and the note that the overseer was apparently still at the library. He put forth a plan to look into things more thoroughly later, but contented himself to monitor the festivities for now.

Re: The Gameverse (Mare in the Moon)
Bright Idea allows her ego to bask in the praise. Perhaps more than was warranted. "Of course everything turned out great! Science never fails!" the mare would tell those who came to complement her. She enjoyed tooting her own horn, and the sips of her drink in between praising herself. A part of her felt something bad was about to happen, but Bright didn't worry about it. Even if something suddenly blew up, it would be another opportunity to imagine new ideas...

Meanwhile, out on the outskirts of town, Zahra takes another look through the lens. "The letter's right, that mare did well - they move too fast, if not a spell." she mumbles to herself, removing the photographic plate and putting a new one in while she sets to documenting the changes again.

Wormwood responded to the praise with silent embaressment. In truth, however, he thought it'd gone pretty well. He'd found a way to contribute, somehow, and although he wasn't sure what the weather team thought of him, he was glad to have found a way to help.
Still, there was an uneasy feeling... one that he couldn't quite shake. So he did what he did best, and that was consult the earth. It was a little difficult to do with all the ponies distracting him, but the spirits had not failed him yet.

Re: The Gameverse (Mare in the Moon)
As the night turns gradually into the day, and the stars above move closer and closer to the moon, the mayor of Ponyville finds her way onto the stage. "Fillies and gentlecolts, as mayor of Ponyville, it is my great pleasure to announce the beginning of the Summer Sun Celebration!" The crowd stomps their hooves, letting out loud and happy noises, a rainbow maned pony doing a flip in the air. "In just a few moments, our town will witness the magic of the sunrise, and celebrate this, the longest day of the year! And now, it is my great honor to introduce to you the ruler of our land, the very pony who gives us the sun and the moon each and every day, the good, the wise, the bringer of harmony to all of Equestria..." She nods over to the bird choir, Fluttershy setting them singing. At that moment, the moon up above fades into a pale yellow sphere, the pox in the shape of a face disapppearing. "...Princess Celestia!"
The curtians open, the princess is gone, the ponies start to panic, and a small blue mist makes it's way from the windows.

Re: The Gameverse (Mare in the Moon)
It has long been said that the greatest discoveries are not made through 'Eureka's, but instead, 'Hm, that's funny's. Zahra slouched over her desk, taking another gulp of coffee as she pores over the latest plate, plotting the next set.
"That's funny, the stars aren't moving, and the moon should be set, for it's almost..." she glances at the clock and spits a jet of coffee straight into its face in surprise, "Morning?!?"
She nearly falls off her stool scrabbling for her hoof telescope. "Where's my hoof telescope? No more is this a joke! If this is no mistake, then the day might never wake." Her pastern wraps around a small eyeglass, and she hurries to the window, looking through its lens at the sky above the hall. "Come now Zahra, try not to quake - tonight there's more than your name at stake." she mutters to herself.

Re: The Gameverse (Mare in the Moon)
Anypony with more than 25 on either Arcana or Perception can notice either an aura of malice and illusion magic worming its way through the crowd, or the blue smoke moving from the sky-specifically the moon- down through the window and along a few ponies, who promptly shiver from cold-in that order..
Zahra, however, with a cutie mark critical, can fully identify the masked, cloaked, shrouded, illusion-ed, and hidden magical well that is Nightmare Moon, the alicorn of Night, and all of her various spells interwoven like a constellation around her regalia, mane, and even within her own body. The seal broken up above is almost plain to Zahra's eyes: A pentacle of stars surrounding the moon, that Nightmare moon had slowly moved out of alignment over however long she was within it, until she could leave. Zahra can sense NMM making her way into the main hall. The black alicorn appears and begins a monolouge (Not copy pasting this. Feel free to butt in at first chance. Everything else-sans twilight- is what's happening.

Re: The Gameverse (Mare in the Moon)
Zahra scrambles through her notes, before finally finding the diagram. It matched up perfectly, which meant... Oh no. A thump echoes out over the hill, as a zebra throws herself out the window, tucking and rolling with the impact before galloping off in the direction of town. "Haste! Haste! There's no time to waste! I must get there soon, before Nightmare Moon!" she yelps, pushing her legs as hard as she can.
---
Moments before the arrival of Nightmare Moon, the doors burst open to reveal a bedraggled looking zebra in formal academic robes, panting with exhaustion.
"The Princess! Find her quick! The dark alicorn will not give us another tick! Don't just stand and stare - we must find her before the nightmare!" she gasps.

Re: The Gameverse (Mare in the Moon)
As the strange Zebra burst in, Lightfoot turned his attention to her.
"STOP RIGHT THERE, INTRUD-" he began, then heard the evil laughter of someone behind him.
Lightfoot turned again to see a large black alicorn standing where Celestia was meant to. This was bad. Very bad. Celestia was missing and in her place was this! An alicorn was a bit above Lightfoot's pay grade, but that's no excuse to be a coward and let this woman... do something terrible to everypony at the party!
"STOP RIGHT THERE, INTRUDER!" he shouted, bolting for the alicorn.
Athletics: 1d20 (14) + 13 = 27

Re: The Gameverse (Mare in the Moon)
The guardspony promptly interrupts the Alicorn's monologue with a flying tackle to her face, or rather it would've been if her nightly mane didn't catch him in the air ((35 Arcana))
"You FOAL. Do you know who I am? I am your princess and I will be treated as such." She growls out at lightfoot and tossing him away with her magic ((28 arcana. Beat it with Athletics to catch yourself before hitting... *Rolls* Wormwood. The higher than 28, the farther away you catch yourself. If you hit 28 exactly, catch yourself JUST there.))
"Hm. Insolent children. None of you know exactly who it is I am, do you... Very well. I will prove it. "I AM THE PRINCESS OF THE NIGHT AND YOU WILL TREAT ME WITH THE RESPECT I DESERVE OR I WILL SMITE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU WHERE YOU STAND! The yell seems to explode throughout the meeting hall, slamming various ponies into walls and the tables. The party and a few other ponies can attempt to catch themselves if they wish, ((DC 25, and as long as you can reasonably explain it, you can do it. Reasonably is "I use perception to find some grabholds in the floor before I slide away" not "I use heal to premptively heal the damage)).
"You shall never see the 'glorious' sun again. Especially for your insolence! This night... Will last... FOREVER!"

Well, this could have gone better.
"You're not my prince-"
It's right about there that Lightfoot slams into Wormwood.

- Roll:
- (Since I'm almost positive the impact from the voice is magically fueled, I'm going to try and use Magecraft to try and soften the impact of it as it hits Copper.
1d20... 17+20-5+5 37... that's enough to 'stop a nearby enchantment from functioning for a moment'... alternatively we could just say the arcana is to recognize what she's doing and make myself a very aerodynamic target so the wave will rush past.)
(Assuming I manage to steady myself: )
Copper thinks to himself, "*Sigh* usually I LIKE it when I'm right. Well, I might as well TRY to do something here..."
"Oh lady of the night, judge not all your subjects by the rashness of one... Though an eternal night would be beautiful, I must ask; how are we to survive if we have no sun, and how are we to be your subjects if we cannot survive?"
- If I can't steady myself:
- Copper: Oh, joy. *SLAM*

Zahra, not being used to being attacked, is bowled right over, tumbling head over hoof before rolling to a stop on the stairs just outside.

Re: The Gameverse (Mare in the Moon)
Wormwood could only watch in horror as the proceedings unfolded, unable to take his eyes off the slit-pupiled alicorn on the balcony, mind simply failing to comprehend all this. This wasn't happening, this wasn't happening... sadly, his denial did not protect him from the guardspony heading straight for him. Despite the combined impact of pony and voice, he tried his best to stand his ground.
"...Eternal Night?" he softly muttered.

"NONE OF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO SPEAK BACK TO ME." She just continued her loud scream, sending a few of the ponies who hadn't righted themselves back into the walls, and even a few more into them. "I AM THE PRINCESS OF THE NIGHT. MY WORD IS LAW, AND MY NIGHT IS THE ONLY THING YOU NEED." The princes's horn burst out into a sinister black glow, and a shadowy aura wraps itself around a trio of pegasi, including Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy, as she and the newly formed shadowbolts turn into whisps of smoke and dly off.
