Everypony, Start Playing SolForge!
If you like Trading Card Games - or always were interested in them but are normally put off by needlessly complicated and weird rules - check out SolForge. I'm LOVING this game. It looks so simple, but it's brilliant - and designed by the guys at Stoneblade and Richard Garfield (creator of Magic the Gathering and inventor of the Trading Card Game) himself. I've played magic for years, write articles about it and love it to death... But I can honestly say that SolForge is so, so much more fun. Been addicted to it since starting.
It goes live sometime this week and will be free to play - with options to pay for extra booster packs and stuff. If you jump in on early access, you can get 20 boosterpacks for half price and some other cool deals. But either way, SolForge is awesome. Hope some people join in!

Let me know how Hex turns out. I loved their Kickstarter commercial and they're clearly passionate about their game.
Luckily, SolForge is going to be free to play as well - and it *sounds* like that's going to be a very viable option. Hopefully, we won't have to choose. =)

You might want to include a link or something. Some of us, and I'm not going to name names here, and too lazy to go search for things.

WOW... After reading the Lore on this card game... I AM IN LOVE.
It's just all awesome.

It absolutely is. And the gameplay is just as great. I've already played over 30 hours of the game. One of the most elegant titles I've ever seen.

Not sure if hoping one fails or hoping there is room for the both of them to co-exist in perfect harmony...Stairc -Dan Felder wrote:Luckily, SolForge is going to be free to play as well - and it *sounds* like that's going to be a very viable option. Hopefully, we won't have to choose. =)
Also, as a little request, could you put a space after the comma in the title?

Fixed =).
Here's hoping they both succeed wildly. Lots of different games can co-exist, no reason that two digital card games (especially when free-to-play is a thing) can't too.

Well as I don't have cash to spare at this time, and we won't really know if free to play is really a viable way to play until it's available, please make sure to let us known when it's actually free to play.

If you read the description, it explains that's early access and gets you $40 worth of packs in addition. Once the game is live, there's free to play.

Re: Everypony, Start Playing SolForge!
Okay, so I bought it and played it (I didn't get those booster packs though, do they come later?) and, well, I guess it's just not my cup of tea. The new hand every turn and only being able to play two cards is neat and all, since you always have something to do, but I feel that it kinda removes the joy of having a long term plan as well, or even a plan for the next turn. No holding a card and thinking "I will doom you", showing only a sly smile. I also got the wrong idea with how the evolution mechanic worked going into the game; I thought things evolved over time, but in fact you level up in the match and that gives you the chance to draw higher level cards. While it allows more opportunities for balance (you can have cards stronger than most at Level 1 but have then weaker than most at Level 3), it kinda backfires in my opinion when you draw a hand at Level 3 and have only Level 1 cards, maybe a Level 2 if you are lucky. I feel this game is a tad too RNG-Heavy for me...
I guess I can play a game with people if they want to, but I don't endorse the game myself (in the sense that I didn't like it, not that it is bad)...

Re: Everypony, Start Playing SolForge!
I reccommend playing it a bit more then. Not because I expect everyone in the world to like it, but rather because the game has an *extraordinary* amount of depth of strategy that isn't apparent at first. I've played and written articles about Magic the Gathering for years - and I can confidently say that SolForge has *more* elements of Long-Term-Planning than MTG. Far, far more - due to the way the leveling mechanic works. Your whole first four turns are a mix of planning for the long term vs. trading for board position and trying to eek out maximum value for your cards while protecting against your opponent's possible draws and answers for the next turn. The more I've played the game, the more the vistas of long-term depth and strategy have opened to me and the well runs deep.
TLDR; The game is *all* about a long-term gameplan. Choosing 2 cards to play from your 5 (the only ones that level after the next 4 turns) is an excercise in having to carefully plan what you want now vs the level-up versions you'll get later. However, the gameplay is so simple and elegant that the wealth of strategy behind its mechanics isn't readily apparent. I just thought the game was neat when I tried it. After days of playing and experimenting, I adore it.

Just a heads up guys, the game is now in Open Beta, so now you don't have pay to play. I also got my booster packs, for whatever that is worth...

Yep. Servers are seriously, seriously, seriously stressed right now though. I wouldn't jump in right away at the moment, give it a while to settle out. Despite the server issues though, I can report having a blast. =)

Okay, so I've been playing for a few days and I've gotten the hang of it.
Suffice to say... Stairc, Paper, I'd love to battle you online sometime, along with anyone else interested. My username is CorvaVespera. I may have a basic deck, but I've grown skilled with it.

Good game!
What's your skype name? I *believe* I'm Dan.jfelder or something. The Dan Felder in Portland Oregon at least. It's often fun to chat with SolForge players during the game =).

EbonyManta.
I... don't think I'll be able to go toe-to-toe with you for quite some time. I looked at the rarity of the first card you played and was like, "Yeeaaah... I don't have anything that rare, this is gonna be one-sided."

Re: Everypony, Start Playing SolForge!
No worries. I can make some more casual decks. I like deckbuilding challenges. =)
Besides, one of the nice things about SolForge is how much playskill can trump card rarity.

Re: Everypony, Start Playing SolForge!
Every day I play this game, I seem to discover more things. I brewed a deck several days ago that STILL hasn't lost a single random online game. Lost once to Kindulas who adopted a similar strategy though, after I shared my list. That's over 100 games with only 1 loss - which was to the same basic strategy. =)
And until then, I thought I'd tapped pretty much the extent of my collection. There's *so* much *depth*.
Anyone else want to play online? Haven't gotten a response from you yet Tyger, after the first game of ours crashed.
