Thorix simply looks around the station, waiting completely still other than the occasional turn of his helmet.

Re: A World of Monsters
Leopold pushes his way to the front of the crowd so he can speak to the guard directly. "The train is late, you say? 'Fliers' you say? What, like birds? If some birds are roosting by the tracks, they will most certainly clear away when the train comes at them. There shouldn't be any problem from birds- so why is there a problem from birds?" Leopold gives him a suspicious look, as he eyes him up and down.

Re: A World of Monsters
...the guard blinks at you several times. "What are 'birds'?"* he finally asks. He then shakes his head and looks serious once more. "The problem is being dealt with handily. The guards can handle a few half-faces..." he bites his lip. Maybe he wasn't supposed to say that.Bronymous wrote:Leopold pushes his way to the front of the crowd so he can speak to the guard directly. "The train is late, you say? 'Fliers' you say? "Half-faces?" comes the repeated murmuring of the crowd.
"All right, all right, move along!"
Once you asked that question, the guard was obviously confused, but beforehand he was quite tense, mostly hidden beneath his armor but there was certainly something in the straining of his smile. Now, the worry has come to the surface with the stress of a misspoken word.
This man is somewhat worried.

- As stated in the first post of the OOC topic (in case you're wondering where I said something so outlandish), there are no animals as we know them in this world. Simply monsters. I can understand, however, why one would assume that the generalized category of 'flying monsters' might be called birds, and to an educated man they might well be! However, the population as a whole will more frequently refer to them as 'fliers'.
I admit I kind of lied. Spiders. Spiders are one animal that both worlds have. Frogs are the other. That's it, I swear!
...everyone else who's rolled to this point sees nothing particularly interesting due to their Perception checks.

Re: A World of Monsters
You know that half-faces are creatures somewhat well-named; odd in shape and about the size of an adult human, these creatures of purple and yellow glide more than fly everywhere they go. They have a spiky-balled fixtures at the the end of a long, cordlike tail, and on their undersides they have a singular, giant eye, a gaping mouth of all teeth, no lips or tongue, and a pinprick of a hole. No one knows what the hole is for.
They don't usually tend to come near cities, is the puzzling thing. On the occasions they do, however, they have been known to attack people, so one could understand why the train would be delayed if the guards don't take care of the problem in...thirteen and one-half minutes now.
Also, they like cheddar cheese, apparently.

Regina looks up from her book and asks, "Does anyone have any cheddar cheese? Barring that I think maybe we could go see if the guards want any help. Or just get a look at some monsters not in a book."

Re: A World of Monsters
"Well then, that was easily settled. Good to see we all do have sense when it comes to these things. At least some of the time anyway." Leopold turns back to the guard, prodding him with his walking stick once again. "We'll go clear up your swarm of monster birdies. Do NOT, under any circumstance, send that train along without us. And don't even begin to start about 'we have to keep a schedule', WE are ensuring the train leaves at all, the least you could do is wait a few extra minutes for us. Do you think that can happen without too much a fuss?"
Not that I expect he's the one who will ultimately make that decision, but worth a shot.
Persuasion: 7+10= 17 lame. I wonder if Sweet and Elite can do anything for us here.

Re: A World of Monsters
The guard puts a hand to his chin. "I don't think so. You guys are civilians, and-"
"GAAAARGH!" comes a cry from a few dozen feet away.
"But, if you're willing to volunteer I see no reason to stop you," he amends hurriedly, stepping out of your way.
The party passes quickly through the railway station, dashing past worried-looking conductors and carriers and so-such. Eventually they reach the tracks and, with some hesitating for a moment, jump upon them, then turn towards the sound of battle. Another short run and everybody arrives, for lack of a better term, in the middle of the tunnel leading out of town.
The battlefield is already bloodied, several guards in leather armor bleeding but none (so far) looking dead. A pile of Half-Faces lies in the corner, and several more are scattered around haphazardly. Still, they outnumber what guards are there about three-to-one. It's odd that they'd be inside the tunnel like they are, but there's no denying the obvious evidence of their current method of existence.
One notices the party with its large green eye, and screeches almost as obnoxiously as its color scheme before swooping towards the party as a whole. Several of its brethren join it as the guards recover from the momentary surprise of seeing you all. "Run! You don't know what they're capable of!" one shouts.

- Spoiler:
- The group of half-faces is quite large. The guards are taking care of about half of them; you'll be fighting about half of the half at any one time. That is to say, whenever one is killed, another one with a new initiative will rise to take its place until, well, everything is dead.
CURRENT INITIATIVE ORDER:
Half-Face F: 18
Half-Face D: 13
Half-Face C: 12
Half-Face E: 9
Half-Face A: 7
Half-Face G: 3
Half-Face B: 1
Adjacency is as implied by the letters. Roll initiative, choose which 5 moves you're going to take. And do try and make this fight as over-the-top as you can. Â

Re: A World of Monsters
One of the ugly purple and yellow beasts suddenly flies forwards at extremely high speeds...directly into the wall.
Well, almost. At the last second, the beast turns, lettings its teeth scrape out a large chunk of stone from the tunnel wall. It then loops around so its underside is facing upwards, turns its flight path toward the still-gathering party, and spits the chunk of stone into the air. Then, spinning into an upright postion in midair to gain momentum, it slams the spiky ball on the end of its tail into the rubble, sending it flying at Thorix's head, using the rest of its momentum to fly at Thorix itself, tailfirst.

- Spoiler:
- Thorix takes 5 damage and it's Regina's turn!
FINAL INITIATIVE ORDER:
Half-Face F: 18
Regina Reid: 17
Half-Face D/Rixa: 13
Half-Face C/Alice Wooler: 12
Leopod DeHavilland: 11
Half-Face E: 9
Half-Face A/Thorix: 7
Half-Face G: 3
Half-Face B: 1
Friendly reminder that it is blatantly said in the rulebooks that as long as in gameplay terms your HP goes down when it is supposed to, you are allowed to never be hit in roleplaying terms, decide how hard you get hit, etc. etc. HP doesn't represent actual health, just your ability to dodge the blow that will take you out of battle.

Regina, having lagged behind the party a bit, mentally cursing her short little legs, catches up just as rocks start flying at Thorix and then stops for a few seconds to catch her breath and muster her strength.

Another of the beasts, at the same time Rixa does this, flies rapidly in circles around Leopold, throwing heavy amounts of dirt and debris into the air at the same time he scrapes his teeth (or attempts to) at Leopold's flesh.
- Spoiler:
- My gosh that took me a long time
ANYWAY that did 5 damage to Leopold, and it's Alice's/another Half-Face's turn.

Alice tried to keep calm. Focusing on the weird half faced creature in front of her, she focused all of her engergy into trying to bombard its mind with disorientating illusions. IT ended up taking more energy than she tought it would, but she was able to break though, filling their minds with bright lights and conflicting sensor images for a brief moment
