My Little Warehouse (OOC, Sign-up, & Information) (PBP)
Equestria! An illustrious, beautiful land belonging to ponies, who maintain it with the powerful magic that courses through it. But there is another force underneath it, that makes itself known in peculiar ways... Nopony can quite explain it, but periodically this "force" will gather on objects, places, and even people... creating what have come to be known as Artifacts.
Several thousand years ago, someone decided to interfere; and founded the Warehouse. Dedicated to the retrieval and containment of Artifacts, the Warehouse has kept Equestria and the rest of the world safe from the effects of Artifacts.
Now it's your turn. Welcome to the Warehouse.
So! Against my better judgement, I have decided to give running a campaign of my own a try, set in my conception of a crossover between My Little Pony and Warehouse 13. Or, if you're not familiar with that, MLP and the SCP Foundation. (There are links at the bottom to both if you haven't heard of either.)
We are using the older system of Utility Talents vs Racial Traits, as opposed to the newer Abilities. We are starting at Level 1, unless there is much protesting. The campaign will be episodic in nature, with each session revolving around one or more Artifact(s). However, there will also (probably) be an overall plotline as well.
Now, as much as I hate to stifle creativity, I do need to set some slight limits on the usage of said Artifacts. On one hand, it's a perfect oppurtunity to try builds that are otherwise difficult or impossible to justify; however, I don't want characters going overboard.
So, flavor-wise, you get to have One, count 'em ONE, Artifact that you use. Mechanics-wise, however, you can use this Artifact to justify as many of your talents as you can think of. I will also permit an Artifact to justify One, count 'em ONE, Custom Utility Talent of your own choosing. (This is not a freebie; you will have to give up a normal talent to use it. And be prepared to have it thoroughly examined and altered.) Be warned also, that if you choose to use an Artifact I have ways to make that choice bite you later...
What constitutes an Artifact (as opposed to just a nifty gadget) is up to discretion.
I would also like to see two characters (at least) that are honest to goodness ponies. This is a mild complaint I have about the Equestrian Radio Show that ZamuelNow is running, and I'd like to avoid having too many non-ponies here.
I will also be giving you a free Group Companion. The exact nature of said Companion remains to be seen; although I am open to suggestions. However, the primary purpose of said Companion is to maintain communications between the party members and the Warehouse, so keep that in mind.
I am aiming for about four players currently; this may change depending on interest. I have five players, but feel free to ask if you want to join; you might get in, and then you might not...
Feel free to ask questions about anything else you might want to know. (Beware; it may take a while to notice a PM, however.)

Re: My Little Warehouse (OOC, Sign-up, & Information) (PBP)
- Warehouse Personnel:
- My Little Warehouse Staff (NPCs):
From right to left:
Artesian Maverick: Supervisor
Responsible for directly overseeing retrieval and containment of Artifacts. (Your boss.)
Farnsworth: Chief Of Communications
Responsible for maintaining communications between the Warehouse, it's agents, and it's overseers. (The Group Companion I mentioned.)
A baby dragon with white scales and big, round, brown eyes. Nobody is quite sure how or when Farnsworth came into Warehouse employ; he simply started coming in every day, and nobody noticed the difference until they tried to pull up his personnel file; by then, he had established himself as too helpful to simply shoo away, and was inducted officially into the ranks of the Warehouse.
Farnsworth is a genius of Magitech, having designed and built several of the technologies the Warehouse uses, including the nearly Artifact level security system that warns of impending disasters within the Warehouse itself. He is currently working on a method of using radio waves to maintain communications between Agents; for now, he is quite content to use his own inherent letter-sending abilities, provided he is given the respect he feels is due...
Sudsy Buckets: Housekeeper/Former Agent
Responsible for sorting, cataloguing, and placing Artifacts within the Warehouse. Also responsible for maintaining Agent quarters (but only if you're nice to her.)
A blue coated Pegasus with an obsessive desire for cleanliness. No longer capable of active field duty, Sudsy elected to take the slightly less exciting (but still important) job of maintaining the Warehouse in order to remain in it. She is fairly crotchety at times, and will kick your flank to the curb if you make too much work for her.
More important ponies to be made known as needed.
- Secrets And Lies:
- In other words, who knows/is permitted to know about what goes on in the Warehouse? (Besides you.) Let's start at the top, and work our way down, shall we?
Princess Celestia
"If the Princess brought her full magical, military, and political might against the Warehouse, it could go either way... but my bits are on the Warehouse and company." - Artesian Maverick, on theoretical warfare against the Warehouse
The Princess has no direct authority over the Warehouse or it's agents; but, neither do they over her, due to a fun game called Mutual Destruction. She is, however, aware of the Warehouse and it's inner workings (but not to great detail.)
Other Princesses
"When I was your age we had one Princess, y'hear? ONE. An immortal one, at that. And now all of a sudden we get three new ones in as many years! First that Cadence, then Luna pops out of nowhere, and now we have Twilight Sparkle? What is wrong with this country!?" - Sudsy Buckets on modern government
Princess Luna is aware of the Warehouse's existence, but not greatly; due to a desire for plausible deniability. At her insistence, Princesses Cadence and Sparkle are blissfully unaware of any such thing. Although it's a wonder that Princess Twilight Sparkle hasn't figured it out on her own yet...
Military And Law Enforcement
"Oh, look. It's my tax bits at work, coming to arrest us." Farnsworth's comment on a less-than-ideal outing.
A few of the Princesses' Most Trusted (yes, it's spelled with capitals) are also aware of the Warehouse's inner workings. The rest of the Royal Guard are aware that there is a Warehouse; but not what they do or why, only that they should generally be left alone when possible. (Don't tell them anything. Even if they say they want to know, they don't.)
The General Populace
"A single pony is smart and understanding. Usually. Ponies, however, are stupid, crazy, wild animals and you know it!" - Maverick, on the importance of a low profile.
Ideally, nobody would ever find out about the Warehouse unintentionally. Unfortunately, Artifacts have a way breaking intentions; as such, ponies directly involved with Artifacts are to be given information on a need-to-know basis, at the judgement of the Agent(s) present, and urged not to tell anyone if they can help it. Individuals indirectly involved are to be provided with reasonable cover-up stories (also at the judgement of Warehouse Agents) backed by any means necessary.
- Artifact Classes:
- So, it struck me that WH13 doesn't really have any definitive way of sorting Artifacts to my knowledge (If they do, I never heard any open discussion on it.) And I didn't want to completely rip-off the system the SCP folks use. So, I made my own system! The names coming from where in the Warehouse they are stored/used. I did base it off of the SCP system; but, there are exceptions.
I have also attempted to provide Canon examples from our beloved little pony series as well as WH13.
Hoof Class
These Artifacts are both safe and useful unless used maliciously; however, one should still ask permission before using one, if possible.
MLP Examples: The Elements Of Harmony, nearly anything Pinkie Pie has
WH13 Examples: The Grapple-Gun, Artie's Bag, The Football Satellite
SCP Equivalent: No equivalent. I made this up to help justify the PC Artifacts (this is VERY frowned on by the SCPF.)
Attic Class
These are generally capable of being "left alone" and are easy to store; however, they may or may not be safe, or may require very particular handling when they are handled. Or they may simply not be particularly worth the trouble of using. Or not; varies...
MLP Examples: Not sure, off the top of my head...
WH13 Examples: Implosion Grenades, Barnum's Top, Spray Acid? (Forget what it's called)
SCP Equivalent: Safe
Floor Class
A little more unpredictable than the others, these consist of the vast majority of Artifacts. These may have some inherent danger, even if handled painstakingly carefully, and often require some kind of maintenance to keep them in line.
MLP Examples: The Mirror Pool, Baked Bads, Love Poison
WH13 Examples: The Colladi Bracelet, Edgar Allen Poe's Notebook & Quill
SCP Equivalent: Euclid
Basement Class
The very most dangerous and hard to contain. These require the utmost measures to prevent their often disastrous effects; and as such, exceptionally high security measures are used to prevent tampering with Basement Class Artifacts.
MLP Examples: Twilight's Smarty Pants Doll, Parasprites
WH13 Examples: Sylvia Plaith's Typewriter, Lewis Carroll's Looking Glass, anything else in the Dark Vault
SCP Equivalent: Keter

Re: My Little Warehouse (OOC, Sign-up, & Information) (PBP)
I'm sort of interested. Might make a History Earth Pony specialist, a streetwise expert, or a circus performer (acrobatics).
How likely are grim scenarios (death, or fates worse than death), considering quite a few of those are present in Warehouse 13 (and a constant in SCP foundation)?
How different are artifacts from typical Equestrian magic, and how do they interact?
By the way, will Warehouse 23 have an influence in the campaign as well?

Re: My Little Warehouse (OOC, Sign-up, & Information) (PBP)
I have heard of Warehouse 23, but I'm not too familiar with it; if you want to borrow stuff from it, by all means, but I myself probably won't.
Death, and fates worse than death, are a possibility but not distinctly; unless you do something unacceptably stupid. And there's plenty of ways to remedy a dead character.
Artifacts vs magic? I'll post more on that later, with some MLP canon examples, but the short version is that Artifacts are generally things effected by that alternate energy I mentioned (Need to make a name for it) that, to the uninatiated, is entirely inexplicable. However, it also covers more "normal" magic that is deemed to be too powerful or dangerous to leave floating around (the Smart Pants doll from Lesson Zero is a prime example. The Mirror Pool probably qualifies as the first kind, though.)
In other words, I need to think about that more a little more. Or perhaps not.

Need you to add a little to the description of the Juggler's Daggers (that was just meant to be flavor.) I'll add you to the list directly.
- The Juggler's Daggers:
- This Artifact is capable of cutting through any material (except their own sheaths) without fail. However, they need to be periodically returned to their sheath in order to maintain this sharpness.

Say, tyger, I sure would like to see some flavor soon... *wink wink* Oooh, nice. Like the Needles. I'll admit though, I wondered how yu were going to justify Fracture The Fourth Wall. It made me think of a few Artifacts of my own... mwahahaha.

Hmmmm... kinda wish I could try a Paladin like-character... Paladin as in, character's name BTW.
But at the same time... Storm Blade & Gearick could both fit here so well...

Hmmm. I'm going to be playing with all three... but have yet to get too familiar with any...
Whichever one works for you, I guess.
I will note, that players are not required to have an Artifact; nor are they required to make a custom talent if they do. It's just an interesting option.

Posting interest.
I actually wanted to make this crossover a while back, but it got stuck in a backlog of other things. Glad to see you made it though!
Also, I would already have posted a character, but then I realized Dandy was doing basically the same thing as Doctor Trotson.
[edit] Filling out Wrangler atm. Timberwolves are neat.

I actually wanted to have him take a modded Form of the Bear for his Timberwolf business, but there wasn't a way I could do that with the frequency that I wanted for him, at least not without it being completely ridiculous.
[edit] Also, Wrangler's all flavoured and raring to go. Haven't written a lot of backstory for him, but if it's needed I can push something out.

Meh. It'll do for now; Backstory is one of those things I like to see made up on the spur of the moment; use your own judgement to decide when something needs to be brought in. (If I need something right away I'll let you know.)
EDIT: Added some information to the second post, regarding some of the NPCs you you'll be working with. The reason is I'd like to be able to assume that everybody already knows each other, at least a little, and has already been folded into the Warehouse workings, in order to get things moving quickly.

Re: My Little Warehouse (OOC, Sign-up, & Information) (PBP)
So going into this, our characters are already familiar with each other?
Also, what's the warehouse's policy on using artifacts? I'm hoping not the WH13 method of "there's always a drawback, so it's never okay," given Wrangler's connection to his.

Re: My Little Warehouse (OOC, Sign-up, & Information) (PBP)
The general rule of thumb is "ask permission first".
Particularly considering that we do see Artifacts used in WH13 on several occasions, in spite of the rules; I recall one episode where they were trying to rescue a Regeant from a collapsing building, and they used a set of - pick-up sticks, I think? I can't remember - to make a ladder. They also used a pair of figurine shoes in a later episode to dig through said Regeant's memory. Claudia has a snow globe she uses on occasion (during the Ramen Noodle incident particularly) and Arty's bag probably qualifies as an Artifact in and of itself. I would need to search a bit for more examples, but they do get used when they can be.
EDIT: Regarding your Timber Tooth, your best bet is to write it so that it was already there when the Warehouse noticed you; perhaps it was either become an agent, or have it painfully removed...

That's fair, I'd forgotten about Artie's literal bag of artifacts that he uses. Thanks!
How long have we been part of the warehouse? Were we all inducted together? Are those things we should just work out for ourselves?
