Shadowmare - A Shadowrun themed Wanderlust Skype campaign

Equestria has changed.

As technology advanced, so did the people with it. Ponies, zebras and all other races worked together with a common goal - to further enhance the development of civilization amongst Equestria. With new miraculous technology, however, came with a consequence, a consequence that caused the disappearance of magic amongst all races. With the outbreak of VITAS (Virally Induced Toxic Allergy Syndrome) many of the magically inclined populous died to the once natural inherited trait that they possessed. Little is known about how the outbreak occurred, but with the departure of magic from the races they began to become more reliant upon technology and computers, bringing a new age to the people of Equestria, dubbed the Age of Darkness.

A century had passed since the disappearance of magic, Celestia and Luna had become dethroned and replaced by the ten mega corporations who bought out shares of Equestria from underneath the rulers, enforcing new laws, securities and splitting the continent into ten separate sectors, each belonging to a different mega corporation with their own political agenda. As the continent shifted from the monarchy to a capitalists dream-come-true, the people resisted. However, before a war broke out the Computer Crash epidemic occurred, where an entity named "Anonymare" unleashed a sentient virus dubbed "The Crash Entity", ruining the corporations grip and civilians' own technology.

Once the virus was finally deleted by software created by a joint effort from the ten mega corporations working together, this left them weak and were attacked by the underground "Shadowmare" movement - which consisted of the dark underworld of Equestria's populous, though was stopped before any significant damage was done. However, whatever happened between the "Shadowmare" movement and the ten megacorporations resulted in the destruction of VITAS - miraculously bringing magic back to those of Equestria - though the cost is unknown.

Again, this occurred a century ago, though Equestria has still not recovered. "Anonymare" was never caught, and details of the majority of citizens have left them deleted from the system, causing them to live off the grid and unknown to the system. You are one of them, a member living off the grind and unknown to system. Magically inclined or not, you've been drafted into the "Shadowmare" movement and are preparing for your first job, and with rent soon becoming due, it couldn't have come at a better moment....

I'm looking for a group of about 5 - 6 players to join on this weekly campaign (A time will be devised to best suit all players, and will be edited here at a later date)

This is both an interest thread, as well as a character submission thread for those interested enough already to take part. Characters start at level one, and races from the official expansion are allowed.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them in the thread or by sending me a message!

I admit that I am quite interested in this Rp. I like ponies, I like Shadowrun, so a combination of the two of them is going to be good!

I take it that there is a difference between mages and shamans?

Interest piqued! I'm assuming the race will primarily be ponies? Or are other races available (i.e. griffons, buffalo, goats etc)?

Senshuken - there are. Shamans are more like conjurers, as they are more attuned with nature and practice shamanistic magic. Shamans are more reliant upon summoning spirits and following a totem. Mages see magic as a scientific endeavour, and are more likely to turn to another mage or scientific methods to help practice their own magic. And whereas Shamans summon spirits, mages summon elementals.

There is also the difference that mages learn their magic through magical institutions, where shamans have their magic occur more naturally, as if the magic itself has found them.


AleneShazam - other races are available, and will be up to the player on what race they wish to play. However, I'd prefer it if players took races from the Races of Equestria expansion, though if you find something you really want to play then I'm more than happy to talk about it and see if we can work something out.

Can I choose goats as a race? Because I've got a fairly decent concept for a goat thief/shaman type character that I might use for this.

Sure, decent concepts can lead to interesting characters. Go for it!

Are we already in character submission or is this just an interest thread?
(My character's not quite ready yet, but I'd like to know just in case)

Interest, more than anything. It is to see if there is any interest for the campaign, but if people want to submit characters then they are more than welcome to.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that both stages are happening at the same time - if people are interested then they are welcome to submit characters if they want to, if they're unsure and want to ask questions first then they are also welcome to do so

Witchdoctor the shaman thief!
He uses a companion to make up for weak skills, and is highly mobile to evade capture and infiltrate secure locations with high stealth and dexterity. Also has a nice helping of arcana to supply magic support (but not primary magic user).
Combat wise, mixture between hunter and spellblade. Spamming quickdraw with various bladespells and rush for the kill to land multiple debuffs and if necessary some dps, with limited self healing capacity. Primary debuffs being weakened.

I've had the stats lying around and I just needed to give it flavour. And I did, and it was a fun character to write.

As far as things stand, I like it. The fool that I am, I forgot to mention that players start at level one.

No, the character looks interesting and is the kind I love to see be developed in play.

Wanderlust and skype? Colour me interested. Any specific requirements for/restrictions on characters?

Nope! Characters start at level 1, and I prefer character to be a race from either the official races expansion but if you see something you like then let me know.

Based on the attributes of the Sun Totem of Shadowrun, it really is a Paladin totem... or as close as you can get to one anyway.

How dystopian/grimdark is living off the grid?
I mean is it mob-lords, drugs, gangs, violence, or hard times but hardworking salt of the earth join together yadayadayada (or is it based on the community, if so what ranges are we looking at, and how common are they?)

It is based on the community - though what community you come from bases from you background. Drugs, gangs and violence is often common, though the intensity would varity from community to community, not every street is the same after all.

I'm kinda imagining the place is like Coruscant/Taris large skyscrapers with very tiers of the city Upper City where Life's on the grid, Lower City where it starts getting Shady, Undercity that's completely off the grid, and the Sump where all the refuse goes.

Or would it be more like Detroit/Urban blight where its built out, but there are large areas that have decayed been abandoned, Ghetto'ized etc.
