Moonbound [PT, Skype, Recruiting]
MOONBOUND
It began one night when beings across the land fell asleep in their usual places, no sign or presentiment of calamity. A chance few, in their sleep, beheld the image of a unicorn with a dark body and a white mane. To each being, they beheld a unicorn looking directly upon them, and pleading.
“I don't know who you are, but if you can hear this, then please hear me out. I am Meteor Shower, a student of Princess Luna. Something – something has gone terribly wrong. And I need your help. All of Equestria, all of the world is at risk. When you awaken, seek me out at CopperNickel Island. Hurry, before it is too late!”
With that, the unicorn's image fades into the aether of dreams. The few who saw her soon found themselves opening their eyes to an unfamiliar place. They were no longer in their beds, and those who looked up at the starry sky, past the clouds, could see the first hint of where they were. Instead of a moon, there was a planet, with the familiar geography of Equestria and other lands upon it.
What happens next will be up to these few.
To provide some additional context, the idea with this campaign is to allow for a wide variety of individuals to participate. You can be a variety of pony if you so desire, you can also be a zebra, griffon, minotaur, whatever. This game will be running on the Pony Tales system, using Skype rules, over Skype. I'm also planning to record the sessions, so keep that in mind if the idea of being recorded bothers you in some way.
Please also bare in mind this warning: Noob GM on Board. While I have played pen & paper games and play-by-post games, my experience with GMing is limited. I can't guarantee you'll have a smooth experience with me as I experience my growing pains as a P&P GM, as much as I do endeavor to provide an engaging game for those who are interested.
I would also ask that players fill out Stairc's Character Questionaire for their character when they get the chance, so that the campaign may be better suited to work for them. This won't be necessary right off the bat at character submission, but I would like to see it sooner or later once things are in motion.
Current Roster:
Senshuken - Strong Copper
AleneShazam - F'Nar Efthag ("Effie")
Terrestial - Thunderclap

Before I go through the effort of making a character, can I ask what Timezone our Gm is in and what days you plan to try and host your games on?

Right, that is very important to mind.Senshuken wrote:Before I go through the effort of making a character, can I ask what Timezone our Gm is in and what days you plan to try and host your games on?
I operate in the EST time zone currently, aka UTC -5:00. Starting March 8th I'll be within daylight savings, UTC -4:00. Currently I'm aiming to do games during Saturday, as the weekend tends to allow for the most flexible hours. I'm hoping to be able to allow players from different timezones to participate and cooperate, but I realize that doesn't always work for everyone. because of the timing it can require from everyone.

I'll post tentative interest, but I'm not decided yet. I'll wait to see what other players come up with before committing.

Re: Moonbound [PT, Skype, Recruiting]
So you're operating on UTC time? Just making sure because I'm in AEST. If I'm correct, that means I'm about 10 hours ahead of you more or less.
But yeah, unless something major changes in the near future I should be able to join in provided you start before 2pm (Midnight for me). I'm happy to play beyond that but consider how many hours a session can go I do like being able to get some sleep at some point.
Edit: Another important question, but what levels are the characters starting at?

That's reasonable, the interest is appreciated at least -- everyone's interest is appreciated.A1C Bronymous wrote:I'll post tentative interest, but I'm not decided yet. I'll wait to see what other players come up with before committing.
I live in EST to be clear. I listed the UTC value (that is, UTC-5) because I thought it might be best to flatly state what the hours difference was going to be, and thought it might help for comparison. I plugged 2pm EST into a timezone converter and it showed AEST (UTC+10) as 5am of the next day, so it looks like there may be a need to readjust how that timing may go, unless I've got something terribly wrong.Senshuken wrote:So you're operating on UTC time? The characters would be starting at level 1, to answer your last question.

It looks like Saturday 6pm EST lines up with Sunday 9am AEST. I have no issue doing Saturday evenings, so if you're willing to do a Sunday morning game there's that.

I'm glad to know that timing can work for you -- I'm having trouble looking at your character though, google drive is saying I don't have permission to look at it.

Re: Moonbound [PT, Skype, Recruiting]
Okay, can see it now yep, thank you. I'm liking the general feel of the character so far, though there are a couple things I would like to check in on though.
1. Expert/Trained skills, or the lack thereof. I can see you have four trained skills, two which would be covered by standard character creation, and and a third which would be covered by "I've Read Alot About It". The fourth one though, looking at your abilities so far, I think you only took one instance of "I've Read Alot About It". I think I can see your logic, but I want to check to make sure. Since your character would be a "blank flank", are you trying to reflect the idea mechanically by giving your character an extra trained skill instead of an Expert skill? I'm cool with this, I just wanted to make sure that was the intent.
2. Attribute Point Allocation & "Specialist". I noticed you took the "Specialist" ability, but the way your attributes are distributed makes the ability superfluous, since the lowest skill you have is at five. Which is the lowest it would be at anyway if you didn't take the skill, and you would still be able to allocate the points as they are now. So I guess I want to see if maybe you had intended for the points to rest differently. Because if the attributes are currently what they should be, well... I guess don't want you to have to spend 3 ability points that you don't have to.
Other than that, I have no quibbles with the character. The spellbook re-flavored as a book of fanfiction ideas makes me smile, and the hoodie feels like it works well with the idea of Copper seeing or observing reality in a different way, an overall concept I really like.

Re: Moonbound [PT, Skype, Recruiting]
Fixed both of those. The first was because I misread it on my part. The second was something I had missed completely and I'm happy to have corrected it so thank you for pointing them both out.
Hopefully the edits still meet your approval.

Re: Moonbound [PT, Skype, Recruiting]
The edits do look acceptable. I guess the only thing I want to make absolutely sure of is if you are okay with not having an expert skill. It feels like it mechanically reflects the idea of not having a cutie mark well, so I really appreciate the idea, I just want to make sure you're absolutely cool with not having that skill when other players might.

Re: Moonbound [PT, Skype, Recruiting]
Hm... He seems to be okay so far. Looks like you still have two more enchantments you can add to your "Enchanting" ability before you need to spend points for more. If I might ask, how would you intend to play off/flavor "Fracture the Fourth Wall"? I don't mind having the ability in the game, I'd just prefer to see how it might play out since Chaser, at a glance, doesn't quite seem like a fourth-wall breaking type of character.
I do look forward to seeing how you may intend to touch up the character more.

Re: Moonbound [PT, Skype, Recruiting]
I am okay with Strong Copper not having an expert skill. At least not from the get go. Maybe as the Rp progresses I'll find what Strong Copper is good at and it'll be a magical moment. Until then, he is going to make do with his book of fanfictions and what talents he has picked up over the years.

Alright, that's good to hear, consider Strong Copper accepted as a character then. I look forward to seeing how his character fairs in action.

So do I. And I look forwards to seeing when this starts. Hopefully next week but it depends on when we can get the people for it. How many were you planning on?

Re: Moonbound [PT, Skype, Recruiting]
Yeah, I'm hoping to be able to get a start soon myself. I was hoping to garner about 4-6 players, but if I can only get a couple more players, I think I can work with that. If nothing else I can still leave room open for more people to enter if interest rises.

Re: Moonbound [PT, Skype, Recruiting]
Chaser is looking mostly alright, though there's a couple things I'd like worked/cleared up first.
1) You got one extra trained skill than normal, and I don't see an ability conferring extra training on your list, so I'm gonna need you to either swap out some abilities to make this third trained skill happen, or pick one of your three skills to do away the training with.
2) You still got 1000 gold to get combat stuff with, and three empty trinket slots. I'm not saying you need to spend that gold, but it may behoove you to be able to get boosts from having an extra trinket or two. Much like with Strong Copper and his lack of an expert skill though, I got no issue with you holding out on spending that gold, I just want to be careful and make sure you'd be okay with what is a potentially weaker course of play if that's what you're going for.
