The League [OOC]
On May 2nd, 1958, a lonely figure in a white robe appeared to a young man and said the following words:
"Chosen by Fate. Enabled by Power. Charged by Man. You are the Gifted."
And then he vanished.
That young man became The Avenger, the world's first superhero, with the strength of twenty men. On October 30th, the same year, another arose with the same story; Instinct, with his amazing speed and reflexes.
And every year since then on those two dates the mysterious figure, the one who came to be known as The Giver would appear to someone. They would become a Gifted, granted with powers beyond belief. Some became heroes. Some became criminals and terrorists. Some went into hiding. Some rubbed off onto others, creating the Knacked; with far more minor and specific powers. Some found other ways to match the Gifted, through technology and training, calling themselves the Normals.
It is now 2014. There are now 108 Gifted in the world, innumerable Knacked and Normals, and not all are friendly. Governments everywhere are starting the Leagues; groups of heroes, stationed across the world, to handle threats of all sorts. Heroes...like you.

Re: The League [OOC]
This is a play-by-post superhero campaign with a hybrid of Living Legends and Wanderlust rules. It's inherited from the version Crystalite started but with a fresh start and various tweaks. The current setup is WL combat, LL abilities, 21 ability points, WL skills, and whatever various adjustments needed to smooth things out. Looking for roughly 4-6 players, erring on the side of newcomers. However, some requests have popped up here and there so we'll see how it goes. Not planning to start until October November at the soonest but that gives a chance to get things planned out.
- Our Heroes:
- mjh6 as Iron Maiden
Elacur as Scratch
Bronymous as Phoenix
Sunbeam as Yuri Andreyevich
APonyFarce as Ash
- Wanted List:
- Toolbox:
- As a Gifted who can conjure a variety of weapons, tools, and other items out of thin air, Toolbox rarely stays captured if anyone manages to subdue him in the first place. Armed with a cynical wit, he's generally content to offer his enemies his own form of demeaning fair play. Despite the capacity for a vast arsenal, he prefers to keep a step ahead of heroes than engage them directly due to a lack of any enhanced defenses.
- Staticaster:
- Staticaster is a Normal who uses a combination of chemical and electrical weapons to create havoc. Known to be extremely volatile, she was recently arrested and tried for multiple acts of terrorism and the creation of weapons of mass destruction.
- Divine Right:
- Divine Right believes that all those who are Gifted should rise up and take command of those who are not. She looks down on the Knacked, seeing them as parasites, and considers the Normals as pathetic upstarts. Her gifts involve being slightly out of sync with the world, allowing her to teleport and walk through walls. Ironically, to actually fight, she relies on weapons created by Normals to be effective. In particular, she likes stun guns, although when things get serious she switches to more lethal weaponry and is not above killing civilians to prove her point.
To be expanded...
- Important NPCs:
- Avenger:
- Instinct:
Geneva Vention (Lawyer)
To be expanded...

Re: The League [OOC]
I'm working on a character, and I could use a few details about the superhero universe:
-How does having real superheroes affect the public's perception of heroes and villains? The way I picture it right now is that everyone just sort of talks about the battles like they're another internet trend (Did you hear that the Avengers almost destroyed Manhattan fighting their nemesis?) but then when the trouble comes to them nobody can believe it's actually happening in their town. Accurate?
The more information you can give me about publicity and perception of the gifted/knacked/normals through the years, the better. My character is a bit old...
-What sort of organization are we working for? How do they find us? How do they contact us? What work do they expect us to do? What work to they tell us we're going to do?
-How exactly is the campaign going to flow? It seems to me like most superhero story arcs (from a roleplayers perspective) go "interact with other PC heroes, run off, fight scene, repeat with the occasional difficult moral choice."

I hope to add more texture to things than that. There will be NPC interaction and hopefully a sense of change as arcs unfold. Don't want it to be an unchanging box everyone's stuck in. That said, the first arc will probably have a lot of the above structure for ease of setup.

Modern perception has shifted towards internet trend status but by virtue of the internet being what it is. Some heroes are regarded as celebrities due to acting like such but others are viewed closer to police/fire/medic personnel. Individual cities do tend to favor their local superheroes unless said hero has done something to fall out of favor.

The League is a combination of skill training and disaster maintenance, often in the form of task forces to fight supervillains. They tend to actively seek out known heroes who have been operating and have particular interest in the Gifted. Someone arrested or in a medical emergency may be brought on for rehabilitation. Sometimes, the government will hire a hero for work separate from the League itself.

This is actually sort of my character's deal, but if my understanding is correct, his organization is in close conjuncture with the League and he'll often work with them.

Re: The League [OOC]
I'd like to express interest, though I'm still trying to come up with an interesting character concept.
EDIT: Conceptualisation complete! I'll try and get him posted in the next couple of days, but I have an idea at least for a Normal character.

So, it's a work in progress- mostly the background- but I thought I should set you guys up with the link and the abilities, if only so I can get them fixed by people who actually know what they are doing.

Re: The League [OOC]
For this one campaign, I will be using an altered form of the flight table:
Yes, there are multiple reasons why I'm doing this.
Alternately, Airborne is being removed from Elemental Resistance in favor of a standalone Feline Grace that does not conflict with other resistances. I may rethink this if everyone suddenly takes it. That said, I believe Phoenix's use of It’s Almost Like Flying is pretty explicitly supposed to be Airborne but was thwarted by resistance conflicts. Also, flight will not autoprevent falling damage.
- The League Flight Progression:
- It’s Almost Like Flying (1) – At Will [GM Adjusted]
You can fly with terrible maneuverability (you suffer a -10 penalty to skill checks made to fly). You can also hover in one place, and may walk on and interact with clouds as if they were soft, yet solid, objects.
Cloud Chaser (3)
Prerequisite: It’s Almost Like Flying [GM Adjusted]
Your flying improves from average maneuverability to good maneuverability (you suffer no penalty to skill checks made to fly).
Flying Ace (3)
Prerequisite: Cloud Chaser
You may roll twice on all skill checks made to fly and take either result.

Not quite, the conflict is only half the reason. The other half is that I took IALF because Phoenix is supposed to be ABLE to avoid damage from falling, but not all the time as would be granted by Airborne or Feline Grace. His Arrest Momentum ability should only function if he himself is able to think about and physically perform it. If he's unconscious, distracted, or otherwise physically or mentally incapacitated, he wouldn't be able to do it anyway, and shouldn't be able to save himself from the damage.
So I'll be keeping IALF.

Re: The League [OOC]
Well, you're not the only one who can benefit. i think I'll take feline grace and take a resistance to electricity instead.
edit: took Acidborn instead, and dropped one of the extra enchantments to compensate

Fair enough. In retrospect, Feline Grace probably should be an At Will but leaving it as a passive for now.

Toolbox now added to the Wanted List. Sadly he lost his fedora but I think the new look works well enough. Refocused his style of doing things too.

Oh yeah, I knew I had something else I was supposed to do. I never got around to making a Wanderlust build for him. I decided against recycling the other one I'm using in the other game right now, and then got distracted and busy. Luckily, Friday, so I should be able to put one together later.

Re: The League [OOC]
so...quick question. Arcana. What's it good for?
Put another way- Wonderluster doesn't really have a skill to represent technological prowess, like hacking. I'm also unsure as to how mystical this campaign will be- would it be possible for humans to learn spells, Doctor Strange style?
ISO... does arcana represent magic, science, or a mix of both? Or something else entirely?

Re: The League [OOC]
Arcana is the strength and control of non physical super powers. Elements, psionics, eye beams, etc. For a physical character, high levels can allow you to interact with intangible things such as punching someone who can phase or literal catching a fireball.
For hacking, I'm treating it as a General Knowledge check that players can take a Freaky Knowledge for.

The combat build? If so, worst case scenario there's some sample builds you can use.

Re: The League [OOC]
No, It's just that I'm unfamiliar with the details of the Powers. Most of them are mostly the same, but there's a lot missing so I have to start from the ground up. I'm pretty sure I'm going to use the Nova feature to make an AoE build into a single target killer.
Just need to come up with a gameplan.

Well I'm already reconsidering the Nova thing. There's all of like 4 Burst talents that don't let you target individuals on their own anyway, and none of the big hitters are Bursts.

You don't like fireblast? That;s a burst that would, with Nova, allow you to do 3d12+3d10 to one creature.
