With perfect timing, another roar can be heard, muffled from outside. "Nah, Fluttershy says she's got all them critters handled, and the big ones she's keeping at a safe distance from the rest of us. According to her, the roars will continue for a little while, but should die down as she trains them up better." Applejack goes over to the map. "If it seems like Ponyville's in a whole heap of more trouble than we can deal with, its because we just weren't expecting this, and we weren't prepared. Them dragons, though, they made plans, and they've got us under siege." She seems to be keeping her voice down, though whether its not to wake Granny Smith, or not to let too many outside the room hear her. "If they'd attacked somewhere with a guard presence, they'd probably have a harder time of it, but smart as Twilight is, she ain't the most strategically-minded pony." She picks up a wooden cane (presumably Granny's) and points to a road on the map. "After the Dragon's made their intentions known, we began stockpiling food for rations, and for fighting back, but we were counting on regular supply deliveries from Canterlot. The Dragons knew that, and that this road north was the best supply line- and they sent their dogs to camp it out. They've stopped up two wagons already, and our other supply by train doesn't come in for a few days- and you can bet they're watching the railroad too." She sighs, pausing for now.

Fluttershy's handling whatever's making all that noise on her own? She's got to be one seriously bad pony, Pumpkin thinks to herself, wondering how she's never seen or heard much of anything about the fellow Ponyville resident. She doesn't look all that impressive in the photos, and she looked downright wimpy in all those fashion ads... Then again, you know what they say about books and covers.

"How long has all this been going on?" Pumpkin Spice wonders. "We barely heard anything about it until today." In half a day, it's gone from "Ponyville has some problem with a few dragons" to "Ponyville is actively under siege."

Her eyes widen as the implications hit her on the head like an anvil. Followed by a hay cart. Then a piano. "Holy flaming sun-plot! You mean we're not getting shipments of coffee anymore?!" She flies around the room in a quick circle in a one pony panic, entirely forgetting about the sleeping elder pony off to the side.

"Atlas is right, we've got to do something!" she cries. "What about the pegasi?" she asks earnestly. "We could fly supplies right over the diamond dogs! We can't carry as much each trip, but pair of pegasi could fly a full cart over at a time."

"The Dragons can kinda fly too and Pegasi carrying supplies would be alot slower than normal. Violet pauses and slowly breaks into a smile as an idea hits her. " I think I've got something...the Diamond Dogs are stopping everything that goes there way right? So, how about we send a cart up to them except, we ambush the ambush by having us waiting hidden. So, when they stop the cart we can surprise them and take them down."

"Ah, I could outfly any dragon!" The pegasus boasts, thumping her chest with a forehoof. Then, she deflates a little. "But I couldn't drag enough supplies for all of Ponyville here just by myself, even if I was doing it all day and night. Ponyfeathers. You're right, Violet," she admits.

She perks up again at the mare's follow-up suggestion. "That... might actually work! I bet we can take on some diamond dogs, easy! Especially if we get the drop on them! We'll scare them off in no time!" She flies in a quick circle, then hovers next to Atlas, wrapping a foreleg around his shoulder.

"C'mon! We got a plan, we got the talent! What's there to talk about? Ponyville's waiting for us to save the day!" she says, extending her other forehoof to gesture towards the grand horizon (which is currently blocked by the kitchen wall).

"Hero...ship...ery... awaits! Besides, have you seen Rarity? If she can handle diamond dogs, anypony can. I bet they're complete pushovers!"

"Now listen, ya'll, cause it ain't that simple." Applejack says this calmly, apparently used to assuming authority in these kinds of situations. "We know that the dogs are camped along the road, ambushing our wagons, but there's more to it than that. We got two ponies from the first ambush, who managed to make it into town, and they told us that the dogs ain't hittin' the caravan at a regular spot, they're all over the road. And worse, they're under the road, and dug the whole route all full of hidden pit traps. And besides that, there's been at least one Dragon spotted helping the dogs out. It don't matter how many guards they try and surprise the dogs with, they've been held up or turned back every time. So..." She looks at the map, and sighs. "So our plan is the same. We don't know what else to do except try the same thing. But I want to send your team along with one of the Wagons, see if... I dunno, maybe you can fight off the ambushes, get past the traps and the dragons, get some supplies through. We're gonna test it with a small supply load, something quick, no big caravans." She looks at you with frustration. "We just don't know what else to do right now. Flying, Teleportation magic... its all too large scale to put into effect."

"Oh, is that all? What did we ever do to get all of them so mad at us, anyway?"

Pumpkin Spice slows her wingbeats and chews thoughtfully on her necklace again. "So sending wagons with a ton of guards didn't work," she reiterates. "So instead, we're sending a wagon with less ponies who aren't guards."

She looks dubiously from Applejack as if the mare had spit her bit. Then, she grins. "Works for me. Doesn't change our plan, except the fake wagon's a real wagon, now! Guards are cool and all when they're guarding doors, but we ponies are from the chaos capital of Equestria! We're a whole league of our own." She looks at each pony in turn, then adds, "Probably," as her gaze goes past Lucky Shot.

"And Atlas here looks like he could lift a dragon by himself," she says, thumping him in the shoulder with a forehoof. "We can scare them off, no problem!"

The pegasus flaps a few wingbeast towards the door, then stops and lands. "Uh... how are we going to get to wherever the wagon's coming from? Where is it coming from?"

"Even then, say we get this cart to safety," Atlas says, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Beat up everything that tries to get at the cart and the supply gets through. What next? We can't escort every cart coming in and out of Ponyville. Do we know if there's anything like a leader for these rascals that we can rough up to scare them off for good? Or should we keep our eyes peeled for canine shenanigans?"

Post  A1C Bronymous Tue Mar 01, 2016 12:04 am

"Well, right now the plan has three objectives. The first, and most important, is seeing if we can get a wagon through. If we find a weakness in their ambushes and traps, we can try and exploit it, get more of an edge back. Testing the waters." Applejack sighs again studying the map for a moment before continuing. "The other two objectives are secondary, but if y'all can pull 'em off... Well, the second objective is capture one of the dogs, which we can give to Rarity's team to do... whatever she does to 'em. And if you can somehow manage it, the third objective is to just beat down or drive off the dogs altogether, and open the road back up. We don't have a lot of hopes for that since we aren't certain how many there are, or if there's still dragons with them."

She turns to Pumpkin Spice, specifically, to address her question next. "If you want tips on how to deal with them, Rarity said something about 'complaining, and then whining'. I don't rightly know what she meant by that- but there is a chance she did just fight 'em off. That girl can kick."

She looks back at the map for a moment, and then looks to Atlas. "As for getting there... scouts say there doesn't look like any dog presence through the forest north west of town. Ain't no road to bring a wagon through that way, the ground's too rough, but y'all should be able to hoof it up to the meeting point in a few hours." She illustrates this, pointing from town, up and around to a Blue Circle on the map. "Shouldn't be a problem getting there."

“Complaining, then whining?” Pumpkin Spice asks, giving a head tilt. ”What’s the difference?” she asks in confusion before shaking her head, dismissing the issue. Rarity seemed like one of those ponies that also knew the difference between a desert and salad fork. And neither forks or complaining… whining… whatever were important here.

”Girls, guys… I hate to sit here on our rumps even longer instead of flying out there and kicking some diamond dog tail,” the pegasus begins, tapping her chin with a hoof, ”…but I just had an idea that can solve some of the things Applejack wanted right now. The woods are clear because a wagon’s not getting through there, right? We tell ponies to start bringing things through the woods on pony back. It’ll be slow, but at least Ponyville will start getting supplies.

"Now, the dragons are going to get suspicious if we just suddenly stop trying to send wagons, so that’s where we come in. We use Violet’s decoy idea. We get the nicest, biggest, sturdiest cart we can find and head back here along the road. When they ambush us, we try to scare them off the road and capture one if we can. And we’ll have a big cart to put her in when we do. One that's strong enough that not even a diamond dog can dig out of it.

“This way, we don’t risk any more supplies, any other ponies, and even if we can’t beat them or capture one, it’ll still be a distraction so Ponyville can get some supplies. And if we’re really awesome, we might be able to drive them off the road once and for all so we can start using wagons again.”

Violet begins nodding along with Pumpkin's plan but, she stops mid nod as a thought strikes her. "Problem, we don't know if we would be able keep any routes through the woods secret from the dragons and dogs. And, just 'cause the scouts didn't see any in the forest doesn't mean their not there they could have been hiding behind trees... or underground. I'm kinda feeling the direct route and winging it when things go wrong."

"So we'll have them send guards with them. The forest routes can't possibly already have more diamond dogs lying in wait than the really heavily ambushed roads!" Pumpkin Spice counters.

"Sure there could be a diamond dog behind every tree, but we'll be going through that forest first to get to the wagon in the first place, so we'll know if there's a problem. And if we do our jobs on the road coming back, they'll be too busy worry about us than little forest paths nopony has used before. C'mon, I think this could work! Trust me, when it comes to winging things, us pegasi know a thing or two," she says with a smirk and a few flaps of her wings for emphasis.

Violet chuckles at the horrible pun before replying. "I guess I walked right into that one."

"You kind of did," Pumpkin Spice giggles.

"But yeah, pretty much! As long as we get their attention with our big wagon o' empty just a little bit ahead of time, they'll be too busy with us to go looking for ponies hoofing it through a forest in the middle of nowhere. And with the tree cover, even if all the dragons suddenly decide to fly by, they probably still won't see a thing! What do all of you think?" she asks, turning to look at the others, seeming quite pleased with herself.

Post  Demonu Wed Mar 02, 2016 11:27 pm

Lucky Shot's mind snapped back to reality. To him it seemed like an entire month had passed between the moment they arrived at Applejack's and the present moment. Time is relative after all but he couldn't shake the feeling that he was missing some pivotal progress in the story that is his life. 'Stupid brain, zoning out whenever it pleases...' Lucky Shot mentally scolded himself.

Still, even when his brain wasn't on duty, his senses were. The dialogue spouted out around him slowly trinkled into his head, his mind busy filtering out the important bits.

'So if I am following correctly,' He piped up, 'The plan is thusly: we send the regular supply cart through the forest route while we act as a decoy supply cart to attract the Diamond Dogs' attention away from the forest route. This plan hinges on two factors: First that we can hold the Diamond Dogs' attention long enough for the supply cart to get through while not getting our flanks kicked to the curb and second, that the forest canopy will grant a modicum of protection against spying dragon eyes. Am I correct so far?'

Lucky Shot pushed his glasses up his nose in that manner that he believes makes him look totally smart. This whole thing started to sound more and more like one of those turn based strategy games he so enjoyed. Advance Emblem or Fire Wars or the like. 'I do have a couple of questions regarding this plan. One: how large is the Diamond Dog force? Large enough that they can afford to just guard or ambush both routes? And two: what's preventing the dragons' from just burning down parts of the forests if they suspect something?'

He looked at the others. More specifically, he looked at Pumpkin Spice, as she seemed to be acting like the team leader. 'Don't get me wrong, I like the plan but we cannot afford any room for error. On the other hoof...' He directed his gaze to Violet. 'It sounds like the Diamond Dogs are used to dealing with only minor numbers. We could indeed barrel our way through on brute force.' He gestured at Atlas. 'We do have the muscle for it.'

Lucky Shot began pacing. Not out of any need to be active or to be busy. He just always assumed that pacing around increased the brain's thinking capacity. After all, would tv and comics lie to him about such an important routine? 'I'm not a fan of putting all of our eggs into one basket but if we go through with this, I would suggest the plan that places us, and only us, in harm's way. Which is to say, Violet's idea of powering through. And who knows, perhaps a brazen display of bold bravery might put the Diamond Dogs' off their game. They are a suspicious and cowardly lot after all. They are so used to dealing with the regular run-off-the-mill ponies but now they will have to contend with the sheer audacity of team... Team... Lucky Shot paused for a moment before readdressing Pumpkin Spice once more. 'What's our team name again?'

"Fandangle," Pumpkin Spice says at the exact same time as Atlas. She grins at the minotaur.

Demonu wrote:'So if I am following correctly,' He piped up, 'The plan is thusly: we send the regular supply cart through the forest route while we act as a decoy supply cart to attract the Diamond Dogs' attention away from the forest route. Am I correct so far?'

"Well, when you put it that way, you take all the fun out of it," Pumpkin Spice complains with a smirk. "But that's the idea, except the ponies would be carrying supplies without carts. The forest is too thick, and the ground's too rough.  Which is why," she explains "They won't expect anypony to move supplies through some random forest in the first place. They've got no reason to guard the the place, much less burn it down.

"And with us guarding an obvious shipment along the road, they won't suspect a second one at all. Even if they beat us, the supplies will probably make it through, anyway without them ever knowing it happened. Not that I think they could beat us, but they have stopped a bunch of caravans with actual guards, so it doesn't hurt to be careful and make sure those supplies get here whether we win or lose. I guess this does put all our eggs in one basket, but it's a really good basket. That's hidden. And they don't even know there's a basket to look for in the first place."

She looks slightly confused as her metaphor gets a bit carried away.

"What do you think?" she asks Atlas and Applejack. She nods to Applejack. "It's your pony show, after all."

"I don't know." Applejack says, studying the map. "I suppose we could try that, but the amount of ponies that'd need to go through carrying supplies would be too hard to miss if dogs do show up there. If we start doing that, we don't want to draw attention to it in the first place. You know..." She looks back at the road, then over to the group. "The dogs let a few ponies through the road on hoof- mostly so they could warn everypony else not to come through. But if they're trying to run us out of town, they might just let ponies walk out, up that road with no hassle. So far they've just been after supplies coming from out of town. If y'all just kinda... walk through, tell 'em you're leaving town for good, they might not care. Then y'all can pass a message for the suppliers to start trying to send ponies through the woods, and then make your way back with the caravan."

Pumpkin Spice nods. "That makes sense. Having ponies bring things here through the forest is sort of a temporary solution, anyway. It'll help Ponyville last a little longer, but eventually they're going to catch on. That means it's up to us to find a way to get those roads clear before then."

She looks at the others and stretches her wings eagerly. "So, what do all of you say? How about we head out there and get that wagon so we can come right back and kick some diamond dog tail?"
