Actually it looked like they were pretty solidly advertising magic as the best way to turn all those valves in the absurd irrigation system we've never seen before.
Meant to say the solutions aren't supposed to involve magic that AJ lacks (and is actually referenced by Twilight earlier, who repeats her silly chore by dangling around). Rarity also replaced the fence with magic. How does one even use scissors or hold a fence with your hooves? We've seen AJ have difficulty sweeping dust the previous episode.
Another note for this episode is that we see a LOT of the inner workings of the spa (apparently it's bigger on the inside), lots of Aloe/Lotus talking.
RD has (or developed) a hoof fetish from that previous time (eventually turning into a full-pampering addiction). Or she's been pampering herself for ages behind everypony's back.A1C Bronymous wrote:Whatever happened to "I don't like ponies touching my hooves", Rainbow Dash?
Maintenance ponies cost money. AJ literally did the job for free (or jury-rigged it, at least. Now they can get a professional to fix it with something other than duct tape). Keeping a business is hard when some harmonious friendship avatars go around telling/showing others to cast down capitalism and work together for

New characters! Have some Flutter Brutter!
- Dashie and Flutter relations!
- Parents! Dad explains a lot. Mom less.
- Fluttershy aces the episode by being delightfully comedic AND amazingly sassy whilst attempting to be serious and responsible.
- Dashie aces the episode by pure reaction face value to Zephyr's (and everyone else's) assumptions.
- Zephyr aces the episode by being... that guy. You know which one. That one. But looking past those comedic negative qualities, he has a very real problem a lot of people probably identify with.
- The moral in this episode is probably one of the more important ones I've seen -get a job do and finish things even if you can fail or you won't get anywhere. There's also the apparent sub-moral that mimics the breezie episode - over-coddling your kids can be more harmful and kind.
- Surprise song outta nowhere! It's not very memorable but it gets the point across.
- Peeved is apparently a swear word. Okay.
- Link pony!

Woo first pony swear. Also, to address any concern, my immediate headcanon is that Lily (Daisy? Flower pony) is either extended family, or just babysitting Dinky. The Derpy-Dinky-Amethyst household remains intact.
And fucking man-bun. Fuck this guy. Steven Magnet's voice actor got a shitty role. Also this lesson is pretty terrible, one of those "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" things. That's not really the issue here, fear of failure isn't this guy's actual problem. It's lack of motivation and discipline, and a pattern of lack of consequence.
And fuck his man-bun.

Spice up your life with an episode the devs made whilst hungry!
- Twilight and Starlight, working together to fix (maybe?) the hologram map!
- Pinkie and Rarity don't really do anything that shines or stands out this episode. They're both very level-headed, even Pinkie.
- New ponies! They're blatant stereotypes! But who cares, [vague Indian locale] confirmed for pony! Saffron iswaifu bait that will drive artists and fanfic writers mad very likable, and Coriander is an ass there because they needed someone for Rarity to sing to!
- The plot (and it's problem) is very predictable from the get go, including the 'change the people, not the ones most affected by it' motif. Pinkie even recognized one of the recurring elements (the problem finds them, inevitably).
- The song is good! Both by it's duality, singability, catchyness, Pinkie Pie, and the Indian music!
- Not sure why they decided that it required Rarity to pull a crowd (whilst Pinkie Pie sucked at it), when she didn't do anything wrong or even that different from Rarity. Unless Rarity used sex appeal, bribes and blatant lies.
- Overall, not very memorable or notable episode, besides the Indian ponies and the song. Not much funny, moral is predictable (if valid). It's not a bad episode, but there's nothing really great or astonishing about it either.
- D'oh, missed a few references.
- I'm not sure who Zesty is referencing with her design, but you can tell from just looking at her what a bitch she is.

Auggghhhhhhhh I love Indian food so much. Now I'm hungry.
So completely unresolved plot point- why on earth is the restaurant rater completely against food that tastes good? Like, every food critic I've ever seen bashes food that tastes like nothing with a side of nothing, no matter the presentation. I think she's an impostor, and since she left without changing, she's probably gonna come back as the final villain. Probably.
Because the crowds know Rarity's face and trust her as a high class pony everypony should know. They were more willing to listen to her recommendation face to face.

Haitus is over, and stuff. Stranger than Fan Fiction!
- I feel like a certain fandom is being... focused on in this episode.
- I'm surprised Caballeron doesn't just sue Yearling for an enormous sum of money, given she's writing slanderous lies about him without his permission.
- Quibble Pants is the butt of the joke this episode, being dragged into bad stuff (alas, his decision to stop following the clearly-insane pony was made too late) and being cynical beyond reason (yet surprisingly competent). The celebrity VA pulled him off! By being as obnoxious-yet-having-a-point as possible.
- You'd think the badguys would have shanked him, or broken his legs, rather than let him free himself and insult them.
- Or that Dash would actually decide to leave him behind and fly out of the jungle. Guess that's what she gets for being the element of Loyalty.
- At least he acknowledges that the rope-bridge stunt was actually life-threatening (rather than think everything was staged, including clearly-perilous situations, as this trope tends to).
- References! Quibble apparently knows CinemaSins, the hotel is the Grand Budapest.
- And then he mocks his savior/idol in a life-perilous situation. Again, he had a point there, but jeez what a douche.
- They're not guys, Quibble.
- Moral is 'tastes differ'. Also, 'it's okay to not like things'.
- The crocodile monster is Cipactli.
- Obligatory face.
- Best cosplay.
- The 7 doors temple is interesting, as it displays ponies at war with other races! A hint at ancient Aztec pony history?

Having Patton Oswalt play the obnoxiously overknowledgeable and over critical fanboy. Casting Director should get a medal.

The Cart Before the Ponies!
- The plot is laughably transparent and predictable in this one. At least the moral is valid: Adults have no childhood and want to relive it through you. They will fail. And ruin everything. And won't listen to you.
- The CMC are showing that they like to try new things.
- More enforcement of Scootaloo meme.
- Seriously, the Mane Trio ruin *everything*. Though the race having a 4-way intersection in the middle is just asking for a fatal accident.
- Derpy! And her.... not-Dinky? WHAT SORCERY IS THI-
- Rarity confirmed for perfectionist freak.
- Snips's adult has a barbershop pole as a cutie mark.
- Cheerilee is both snarky and surprisingly peppy in this one!
- Tiara's butler is still as amazing as always.

Re: MLP: Season 6 - Discussion, Speculation, Interpretation. Now with more [SPOILER]!
New episode, featuring things! 28 pranks later.
- We start off with Dashie completely forgetting what she learned in season 1 (that Fluttershy doesn't like pranks). Luckily, she goes to resolve the issue immediately! It makes things worse, because Dashie does not adhere to normal logic unless it's bloody corpse slaps her and breaks her teeth.
- If you've seen the synopsis, you already know what the plot is and will be. Then again the whole episode structure makes it REALLY easy to figure out what the whole deal is, and the added obvious clues (smirks, etc) make it further obvious.
- Zombies, man.
- Pinkie is, as usual, great (though not very convincing with arguments).
- Fun fact: The episode remains the same if you replace 'cookies' with 'drugs'.
- Dashie confirmed for part-batpony.
- Not much to say about this episode. Predictable plot, Dashie being Dashie (some of the pranks are impressive. Others... less.), and nobody gets tragically killed. There's a bunch of continuity and character returns, though!

Changeling stuff overdose! The Times They Are a Changeling!
- Drinking game: Take a shot whenever 'Brave and Glorious' is mentioned.
- Moral of the episode: Everypony's a little bit racist! Or a LOT, it seems.
- Changelings! So much canon continuity and stuff. We know that they start off as literal bugs/larva (which is a mix of daww and AAAAH), can disguise as any race OR object, and have certain... issues. Also fork-tongues.
- Flurry Heart is a buffet table of love for the changelings, it seems. Foreshadowing?
- Thorax! He's about as stereotypical as 'evil creature that wants to be good but has issues with instinct' can get.
- A song! A pretty long one, and for a change Spike is the one singing! It's a bit hard to judge, it's emotional but... I mean, everypony is just frowning at him.

Dungeons and Discords!
- Discord's myriad of references and gags are interesting and amusing as always, but the episode feels a bit... lacking, despite this.
- Discord seems to have been settled in the role of both eternal cynic and party-pooper when things don't go his way, plus a huge heaping of being an entitled jerk with obvious flaws/ lonelyness. At least he added extra friends now.
- Spike and Big Mac don't really... do anything amusing this episode, beyond playing D&D as it's expected. The cardboard enemies are a nice touch.
- Predictable plot (nothing that Gravity Falls didn't already do), and what could have been fairly exciting 'adventure' style plot was moved sideways for one that better delivers a moral to Discord/Spike/BigMac.
- So many crashed and burned fanfics.

I wonder if anyone reads these posts anymore. Anyway, Buckball Season!
- Pony sports! Interesting concept of a game: A flying goalie, a shooter, and a ball-catcher trying to catch rather than avoid the balls.
- Surprise Snailsyatta, being good at what he does and being totally chill doing it.
- Episode moral: Peer pressure, 'everyone's counting on you' edition! Also, competitive games are hell/terrible for casuals/non-tryhards, and AJ/Rainbow are accidental jerkssometimes.
- Derpy in best hat!
- It's a good thing the mane six don't get this much hype for saving the world or they'd be deeeeead.
- Oh gods Fluttershy's faces/rants combo. And her buckball 'strategy' is adorable as it is amazing.
- The train-walking scene (14:20-ish) has an interesting perspective from an animation standpoint - illusion of three dimensions!
- Where did they find Blossom / Bulk Biceps's mother? And who's their unicorn?

The Fault in Our Cutie Marks!
- Great joke for the intro, as well a sort of preview of the idea of an 'unsavory' cutie mark. Very supportive parents too.
- Piracy confirmed for being a thing and being bad. Apparently.
- Gabby bestbirb griffon. So hyper. Much adorabs. Such Pinkie.
- Griffons confirmed for being brokenly overpowered master race.
- Twilight confirms the background lore of only ponies getting cutie marks and being a special snowflake OC race.
- Gabby further cements the notion that most other griffons are jerks but that the ponies are starting to rub off them.
- The plot is strange in that the problem's potential solution is literally visible from the start of her backstory and that it could have been resolved much earlier had there not been an extra element of Gabby being way too hyper to listen/figure out the CMC's ideas.
- Interesting focus on Scootaloo in the latter part of the episode. Very good choice of the writers to include Scootaloo's 'disability' Â and her own viewpoint on the subject.
- Song! Again, not memorable or obsessively chant-able, but Gabby has an interesting/decent singing voice.
- Gabby being part of the CMC hopefully marks her return in an episode! And an increased inclusion of griffons in the show's plot(s)!
- Moral of the episode: Some people are perfect but think they're not, doing what makes you feel good is the best kind of job, sometimes obsessions can get you things.

Viva Las Pegasus!
- Pony Vegas! DDR is popular.
- The King lives! Now lets make him a Trump-like villain!
- For once, the plot isn't transparently obvious and the 'twist' is decent.
- Flim & Flam are still up to their shenanigans and learned absolutely no morals.
- Fluttershy is still adorable.
- AJ is still a stubborn jerk. At least this time it's part of the 'solution' to the friendship problem.
- Moral of the story: Always assume the microphone is on.

Every Little Thing She Does
(oh boy, that screenshot)
- This is an entertaining one. You can see the train-wreck from miles away and it is glorious. The pacing is a bit weird, though, as the latter part of the episode is 'undoing' her blunder from the first half, rather than a climax.
- It's also a bit threatening that Starlight is shown to be such prime villain material. Imagine she never redeemed or continued as a long-standing villain.
- And of course the whole 'mind-control your friends completely and utterly'.
- Magic! Lots of magic things.
- And faces.
- And this monster apparently. Plus a whole lot of oddly fitting AJ family history.
- Apparently removing super spells incites a massive hangover.
- Moral of the story: Debugging logic code is a bitch and don't cast spells on your friends what is wrong with you.

Pony Point of View!
- Story is... eh, nothing special. No song, not much humorous stuff (beyond the exaggerations).
- Tri-horn Bunyip is... well, something.
- Crab memes!
- Darling darling!
- Apparently priceless sunken treasure is fairly easy to find with just a net and a map.
- A possible reference to the comics at the start, with Fluttershy/RD being on their 'reunion'.
- Spinning Winona
- Pinkeh Ponkus Pie Things
- Also some Twi

Where the apple lies!
- Fairly amusing episode, given how insane things get near the end.
- Continuity! Or rather, backstories! Still no parents, and Big Mac's backstory is intentionally skipped, but we learn a bit more of their youth, and why they're what they are today. And breeds some new unsettling theories.
- Interesting detail on how filly-AJ has yet to develop her strong applebucking legs. Which seems to be a sign that she's not at all hard-working (yet). She still keeps shoving things into pony's mouths, though.
- Moral of the episode: Don't f**k with Granny Smith.
- Derpy! And dark implications!
- Spoiled Milk! She's always been a bitch, it seems. And may have gotten snout surgery.
- Extra tidbits: Twins, sadfics, faic, faic2

Top Bolt!
- Not much to say about this episode. Apart from a few faces, not much is notable. It's overall solid but not exciting.
- Angel Wings is a make-a-wish foundation pony. Hence why she's apparently a stand-in for Derpy this episode.
- Oh Dashie.
- Faces! Faces? Faces.
- I'm not entirely sure what the 'moral' of this episode is. Don't be the guy that does all the work for others?
- Not much to say about this episode. Apart from a few faces, not much is notable. It's overall solid but not exciting.
- Angel Wings is a make-a-wish foundation pony. Hence why she's apparently a stand-in for Derpy this episode.
- Oh Dashie.
- Faces! Faces? Faces.

Re: MLP: Season 6 - Discussion, Speculation, Interpretation. Now with more [SPOILER]!
The finale is here, finally! Unless you watched the leaked version.
To Where and Back Again, pt1
To Where and Back Again, pt2
To Where and Back Again, pt1
To Where and Back Again, pt2
- Spoiler:
- - Wacky non-Mane-Six hijinks! We get plenty of more Trixie (if you were a fan) and of course Starlight Glimmer, plus surprise Discord and Thorax!
- No song, in either of them. Shame.
- As usual, 'friendship ex machina' wins the day.
- First off, Thorax! He's swell and likable, though I'm guessing he'll be 'out' of the future season(s) due to being promoted to a 'leader' role and becoming much less 'cutesy' looking.
- Second, Trixie. She's, eh, okay? She pulls tricks and bickers with Discord and doesn't achieve much save copy Discord's role of snark/funny.
- Third, Discord! For a change, he lacks his chaos stuff which reduces the amount of painful visual puns or references but also limits his humor to the writing of his lines and John's performance on them. What it does help though is his character development. He's still as loyal to Fluttershy as ever.
- Lastly, Starlight. Her flaw of 'don't put me in charge' seems a bit too hammered-in for the finale and it doesn't seem very clear how it got resolved besides dumb luck in the end. Otherwise she pulls stuff off nicely.
- Lots of 'shapeshifter/doppleganger' tropes are played, but the heroes act intelligently for all of them, inventing a password and calling out on the obvious trickery.
- Changeling continuity! We learn that they're very much like bugs (oh Chrysalis, you boneless abomination you), how their love-sucking works, and that... we'll never see them again as the scary bugs all the fic-writers love them for, replacing them for friendship-bugs instead. Hm. Many a fic burned in flame with this episode.
- Chrysalis remains a villain and she loses any and all chance of being looked in a positive way. Hooray! Question now is how exactly will she become a credible threat again, barring a 'villainous gang-up' scenario, since she lost the entire reason why she was an effective villain. She certainly pulled no stops on this invasion though, losing by mere inches and having an otherwise well-organized plan ruined by chance and her own evil-ness and lust for power.
- I somehow expected more from the 'equality village' to play a role in the episode, but instead it was given minimal mention and the 'actors' of the episode were exclusively the Side Four.
