Nameless griffon bodyguards were the second enemy I designed for this campaign, in case that helps your choice.
(Also, I personally am more fond of the Jäger idea)

If we don't go off rails that is.
So... how do you decide between 'possible character' over 'certain character' for the RP?

I was figuring I'd provide sheets for both and see which one he liked best, then improve that one as neccessary.

Re: The Old King's News (Skype Campaign)
Oh WE"RE making our own story relevance. Well, if whoever was looking at pursuing that "undercover guard" thing, Flashpoint was a member of the Guards, and...
Magic use by the Griffons, while overtly met with casual acceptance by the throne, was worrying to the less observable groups working behind the scenes. A division of the Lunar Intelligence Group wanted to know more, but couldn't risk drawing attention to the throne. They set out to find somepony who could operate alone, with minimal scrutiny, and whose connection to the LIG was questionable, at best. Flashpoint was one such candidate, and he accepted. He was to travel, under guise of a civilian, to the Griffon Kingdom, and see what he could find. Nothing worthy of a Spy novel, just look around, talk to the griffons, see what they say, and report back. He was also to travel with another operative, a Guard trainee who as of yet was not bound by oath to the throne, and would be able to fit in better than a fully-fledged member of the guard. His lack of experience would give him a more believable identity as a civilian and a traveler.
Two not-Guards working as civilians. Cover story is sightseeing, along with the probable influx of curious tourists. Two buddies isn't that suspicious. If the other guy is a pony, then we could claim familial relations, and if not... a different kind of relationship could be feigned. If he's a Griffon then I could be with him, traveling to meet his family. Not many would question that. But that's Plan C, if anything.

Re: The Old King's News (Skype Campaign)
My character is a pegasus, and a traine guard or guard hopefully. So perhaps he could be traveling with Flash-point? Not being an official guard, he won't fall under suspicion.

You can go as far off the rails as you want, but something as ubiquitous as a bodyguard will still be showing up for a battle somewhere along the way.
Mainly I just want to wait a while, make sure there's plenty of opportunity for others to join before I say anything for certain. There aren't very many skype groups around.

Oh, I will say that Dapper Soliloquy is almost definitely in, just because THIS isn't going unused. (Though critiques might be nice, see if you can figure out the last numbers I did, also, all the references.)

In regards to the Jägerpony how many points are you using for non-standard races?

Probably the standard 6. That's what it says in the genetic engineering document, right?

Re: The Old King's News (Skype Campaign)
Indeed...now to decide whether to spend those last two points on a cutie mark, which will most likely be represented by a fancy hat, or on wierd mutations.

Re: The Old King's News (Skype Campaign)
Biological tricks might be more fun, besides, I think earning an ACTUAL hat could be a fun little thing for your character to do/more appropriate for the jäger anyway.

Re: The Old King's News (Skype Campaign)
The first 4 are taken up by Specialist and best of the breed because Jägers are only made out of the very best.
Edit: Yeess. I could take the scent thing to represent...well an enhanced sense of smell for example.

Re: The Old King's News (Skype Campaign)
If I was making it, I'd probably give the Jägers 'Heart of Courage'.
They do so seem to love a challenge.

Z2 wrote:Lastly, are you suuuuure you want to base a character on a character both other players and the PH think could use a bit of cosmic comeuppance? (Nothing that really effects his efficacy from my end mind you, I'm not that kind of DM.)
I don't have anything against the character, but considering his skills with acting and how perfectly he fits with my own character, I'm very likely going to (mis)treat him as an "employee" actor. Were his acting added with me in mind?
Also, I must ask in advance: Would my "It's witchcraft" talent allow my character to summon scalding hot minotaur-brand (read: disgusting to non-minotaurs) coffee out of nowhere, similar to how Zecora summons tea (he already has a mug)? I imagine he'd always have a cup of it at hand.
As for the laughter table, I think it needs more work... Some of the talents directly affect combat (and only combat). Others aren't fun/funny or are incredibly boring/do nothing/highly situational to have an effect. A few are copies of each other that do the same thing (lots of re-rolls). Some are dangerous, and a majority of them are detrimental or only target us, usually negatively and thus aren't fun, and some give permanent benefits to stats.
2, 8 (does nothing), 22 (boring/useless), 23 (combat benefit), 24 (does nothing), 30, 31, 34, 35, 37, 42,43, 55 (no cars), 60 (another reroll),61 (needs teleport), 83 (situational), 87 (situational), 84 (combat benefit), could have better effects, for example.
It ain't a "tons of fun" table if most of the stuff isn't fun for any of the players, or generally not worth using a magic point to "cause". Maybe make it so it doesn't affects stats/combat/mechanics directly (indirectly is fine, e.g. by having an elephant fall on a creature), and have something goofy/funny happen, either to a target, the user, or everyone nearby (not just just players).

Re: The Old King's News (Skype Campaign)
Ohh dear, what have I unleashed...
I am now fervently hoping to roll a 68 on Laughter.
also, on that 1 option...
rolling 1-1 would result in instant death? Laughter has a fatality rate of 0.05%.
Agreed. A good hat should be earned.
Also, I am very sad that earth ponies don't get Feline grace. Now we will never know how he does that
Anyway, to lay some worries to rest while I have internet access:
I was planning to focus more on the "gentleman" aspect than Othar style aggressive ridiculousness. Manners before survival and practicality, etc.
Does not mean there won't be any of that stuff, just not making it the main focus.
The acting was not a reaction: just seemed an interesting way to justify the character's oddities.
Btw, he is a (retired before finishing his training) theatre actor, not a movie actor, probably makes it difficult to "hire" him.

Re: The Old King's News (Skype Campaign)
I suppose some of them are more fun in theory than in usage. I'll alter the table a bit. Also, you'd have to roll 1 on a d100, and then another 1 on a d100 to die. That's only a 1 in 10,000 chance.

Re: The Old King's News (Skype Campaign)
@Zarhon All right, I altered the table a fair bit. Feel free to check it again.
P.S. I'll put in cars if I want to, tyvm.
P.P.S. I could sell you a mug of infinite coffee, but an arcana check wouldn't allow you to create comestibles from nothing.
@Xel : DMs are encouraged to make their own Tons of Fun Tables - right there in the player's guide.

I thought it was great. Made me laugh a few times, especially the football part.

I guss I just misread something...
On another topic, are we allowed to use an unofficial element? I ask because I wish to take Passion from that elements of creativity topic if that's alright.

Re: The Old King's News (Skype Campaign)
Coming up with a combat build that would fit a Jäger is harder than I thought, the only thing I'm happy with is taking thunder hammer and justifying it as grabbing some piece of random tat from the surroundings and bludgeoning foes with it because Jäger.
