Re: Take these broken wings and learn to fly: S4 Pony Discussion (Screened episodes only)
- The plot of this episode could very well work with *any* of the Mane Six (maybe not Rainbow Dash). All could potentially have horrible results. There's gonna be so many dark-fics after this episode.
Seems like a unicorn only thing. Not sure it'd work for Earth Ponies and Pegasi. I will say that it went to the one pony who'd be most corrupted by its power.

Miserable Rarity:
Best new hairstyle
Best fatty eating ice cream
Best God
This episode made me so legitimately happy.

I can imagine Rarity actually being among the more timid of the choices. She has her creativity and fashion-fixation making 'relatively' harmless changes at start, or changes that work off aesthetic (which sort of allows a degree of function). Other's fixations can cause a lot more trouble, potentially.Cardbo wrote:

Fluttershy would be animal oriented - unleashing a literal zoo/jungle/safari into Ponyville and devolving into a Dr. Moreau geneticist, or making things more animal-friendly than it is pony-friendly.
Twilight would be fixated on magic and/or science (books/knowledge) - in other words, Skynet-level technology cock-ups, Megaspells, the usual 'annihilation of the concept of physics via breaking reality', or if focused on books, forcing all entertainment and aspects of life to be 'in a book', or expressed via literature. The most destructive potential by far, though likely the one most 'curbed' at start, given enough discipline and self-control.
Rainbow Dash would either be completely harmless (utter lack of creativity or aspirations for such), or create a dare-devil world where everypony has wings, is genetically altered to be 20% cooler, and racing flying sharks is part of daily routine / survival. Also, everything turning rainbows, and the dorky/egghead stuff being disregarded/altered to fit her ideals (and thus bringing dysfunction).
Applejack would be fixated on apples. Her lack of creativity would result in a world that would be reflected as such - apple trees everywhere, and a devolution of all aspects of society to agriculture. It could also reflect her 'creations' by being shoddy, designed precariously, or being 'simple'. Also, apples everywhere. Nice way to ruin an ecosystem.
Pinkie Pie would just turn the world into an endless party. And would almost certainly be the first to mentally snap when her utter lack of knowledge in non-party fields interferes with the functioning of the world (as we've seen her bumbling during the Weird Al episode - no surgeon would want their OR 'partified') and thus makes everyone miserable, despite parties. She's also pretty much most likely to go haywire with it.

I'm expecting Twilight to be more sensible with Artifacts of Doom, Rainbow Dash not caring since its not a Daring Doo novel, Applejack similarly not caring for because its not Apple or farm related, same Fluttershy as its not animal related, and lastly the same with Pinkie Pie. However Rarity is a unicorn, and fashion designer. She prides herself on creativity being her schtick, so when a spell that she can use comes along and allows her to put the ideas in her head and make them a reality, its really no wonder she fell off the deep-end here even without the magical curse.
Also, anyone want to bet that this isn't the last we see of the spell? I'm betting it'll play a major role in the final three episodes.
- Next three episodes:
Celestia sends Discord to deal with a threat to Equestria. Why would she send Discord? It takes a reality warper to deal with another reality warper. Such as one powered up by this spell.

Agreed. Was that guy supposed to be a reference to someone, or did he just win voice actor roulette?

Re: Take these broken wings and learn to fly: S4 Pony Discussion (Screened episodes only)
Honestly, I'm not actually sure. The credits at the end say that Jay Brazeau played a character called Claude, and since I don't know any other character in the episode having speaking lines that could be worth enough to be mentioned at the end with a name, I assume Claude is the puppeteer...Bronymous wrote:

Re: Take these broken wings and learn to fly: S4 Pony Discussion (Screened episodes only)
According to TV tropes, the puppeteer ('Claude') is a mixture of being a Willy Wonka (clothing) and WC fields (voice) reference.Bronymous wrote:Agreed. Was that guy supposed to be a reference to someone, or did he just win voice actor roulette?
Last two episodes, you mean, since the next episode isn't part of the two-part finale.Cardbo wrote:Also, anyone want to bet that this isn't the last we see of the spell? I'm betting it'll play a major role in the final three episodes.
- Next Episode:
- The next episode is "Equestria Games", after which is "Twilight's Kingdom pt1/pt2. And judging by the synopsis info that's been bouncing around, it seems unlikely the curse-book makes a return. Especially when one considers the previous foreshadowing and rainbow power / keys stuff."

Re: Take these broken wings and learn to fly: S4 Pony Discussion (Screened episodes only)
Have some new episode!
Equestria Games
Highlights:
- Spike gets what is quite easily the crowning awkward/embarrassing moment of awkward/embarrassing moments.
- Spike has performance issues, but gets over them.
- Flame breath upgrade! Kinda.
- What kind of safety standards allows ice archery. In a stadium where anypony is viable to get hit by one stray arrow and freeze/impale them to death.
- Magic-blocking technology for optimal cheat-prevention and handy-alicorn/unicorn-plot-solving-prevention! Surprising it's the only thing they do. No search for hidden contraband or weapons?
- Team Dash gets a 'great, but not best' conclusion to their contest, handled extremely anti-climactically. Same with the rest of the contest. I guess they're kinda trying to boast Olympic ''good sportsmanship'?
- New rulers of nations! Who get very little screen-time.
- Cherry Jubilee is apparently either a very prominent brothel owner, or the owner/mayor of Dodge Junction, considering her spot in the VIP booth.
- Bulk Biceps has a mother! (in the audience, right side of VIP booth).
Equestria Games
- Commentaries:
- - Train!
- Ponies doing macho manly things! Especially the mares.
- Fluttershy why you flying upside down?
- Checklists are tiring work.
- Fluttershy, you do realize he's in prime position to stare at your plot.
- DERPYYYY
- They're all being paid to cheer her on.
- Uncertainty? In rainbow horse? WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH RAINBOW DASH?!
- Scootaloo fails at basic sports concepts.
- "I'm being paid to raise Olympic sportsponyship."
- Work those muscles, Fluttershy.
- Welp, that baggage is doomed.
- Portable ramps kind of hinder their purpose if they're mobile.
- Lets teach the kids some more breathing exercises!
- And then kidnapping.
- Are you daft Twilight, he just face-planted onto a crystal floor.
- That sounds like the name of a terrible OC/Sue.
- That Crystal Heart seems like a engineering disaster/horrible injury waiting to happen.
- Feed him the green ones, or he will consume your crystal flesh!
- Actually, he kind of fumbled it. It was her husband's act of wife-tossing that got her to the heart.
- "Unless you count that one time where the whole city stadium burned down from a dragon attack. That's why we have crystals for houses now."
- Apparently, crystal ponies are fireproof, since he's holding charred charcoal and hot ash in his mouth.
- Who makes their child wear a pink cowboy hat? Also, looks like the Doctor's visiting as well.
- Rulers! And Cherry Jubilee is apparently part of high society (probably the brothel's). And what appears to be Bulk Biceps mother.
- Ms. Harshwhinny needs to get a stallion to unjam that stick out of her plot.
- That's a big torch.
- So apparently, Spike's actual full/legal name is "Spike the Dragon". Sounds like it could be an issue for bureaucracy.
- Wait why is Derpy on the team suddenly?
- Flags! Seems Dodge Junction is its own competitor. As are the griffons, Cloudsdale, and... Sweet Apple Acres?
- Listen to her man, she hasn't had her angry sex yet today!
- Every man's worst fear: Performance issues.
- I get Twilight being worried, by why does the red-mane pony worry about this?
- Ms. Harshwhinny is Mistress Obvious today.
- Purplesmart to the rescue!
- And then the episode had no plot left to resolve. Roll happy credits.
- Griffons! Now in red, blue, purple and teal!
- And then the games ended.
- Luckily, Scootaloo has Rainbow Dash now to make up for her shroedingers parents.
- "You dun didn't goof."
- That's what she said! Oh wait.
- That is a perfectly reasonable expectation to have, Twilight Sparkle. Too bad you're in a cartoon.
- "This is mah brah voice. It sounds vaguely male."
- Spike's disconnection from reality has reached an all-time new high.
- "That you have fans?"
"...Touche."
- [ Insert fart jokes here ]
- Lag-fires are the worst.
- "Explanation: 'Magic, bitch.'"
- Feels! Feel the feels of the feeling feel!
- It's easy to look good through puberty (if that voice is any indication) when you're a race of magic crystal shiny ponies.
- "Yep, gonna have to strip search that plot. Thoroughly."
- Security measures! Apparently they're not dumb with these. And that there's no such thing as a magic world championship. And it doesn't work for princesses.
- Pinkie exciting sports updates!
- Spike, this always ends in disaster. Initiative leads to ruin!
- Rock concerts are a lot less exciting when they involve actual rocks.
- Silver! The 'almost' of medals.
- NOW KISS!
- Griffons!
- Spike, what are you doing.
- Spike, staph.
- Well, you've stepped in it now.
- Oh wow.
- I.
- This.
- Wow.
- Cringing faces aren't enough.
- BON BON DOES NOT APPROVE.
- Oh Pinkie.
- It's too late, mother. The foal cannot un-hear.
- That moment when the gold medal winners realize they didn't actually win.
- This stands as an art piece, of quite possibly the most awkward moment ever depicted in a cartoon. The VA put all the stops to make this as awkward as possible.
- Oh Pinkie.
- Feels: The feels strikes back.
- With the complete butchering of a national hero's reputation?
- Cue elaborate methods of sabotaging their competition to ensure victory.
- Pinkie, why are you standing on that pony's head.
- Why is the feather scene so familiar?
- "We haven't mocked you enough yet!"
- That is incredibly elaborate and gimmicky for an actual sport.
- Suddenly, disaster!
- Well, the Doctor ran, so they're about to be horrifically impaled.
- Oh hey, audience that does something! UNLIKE SOME PRINCESSES.
- Dang. It's almost like the field was there to make it impossible for a Deus-Ex Machina to instantly/easily solve the crisis moment with magic.
- As an engineer who studied therodynamics, I can say that's not how it would work. It would just break apart, thus letting it fall faster, thus impaling anyone underneath.
- For so much ice, that's not much rain.
- Spike is pretty indifferent about this.
- "But you saved a hundred people! Everyone will adore you and give you favors and..."
"You saved the entire world. Several times. How are those favors working out for you?"
"...Touche."
- Mild mannered friendly neighborhood creature of myth with supernatural powers.
- "Yes, actually. But a brown pony asked me not to."
- I know what will restore your confidence! Handling explosives!
- Oh hey, there was another plot! And they won it! Good job!
- Morals!
- Not shown: Fireworks flying and exploding in the middle of the spectators. Because audience security is for wusses.

Re: Take these broken wings and learn to fly: S4 Pony Discussion (Screened episodes only)
So far, there have been only two points in this series that I could not bring myself to watch the first time through (although that didn't stop me from listening to the audio as I cringed). The first was the CMC's song in "The Show Stoppers". The second was Spike's song in this episode. Sometimes I'm too empathetic for my own good; when watching situations like this, I'm practically an embarrassment sponge.
Also, as gimmicky as ice arrows are for just sport, it looks like it would be cool (if you'll pardon the pun) for combat purposes. Plus we learn how the heck pony archery works for non-unicorns.
...Was anyone else slightly disappointed that none of those archers even slightly resembled Haley Starshine?

Aye, I saw what was coming, and skipped the hell out of it too. I can't stand awkward humour. It took my literally 20-30 minutes to watch the "fashion" show from Suited for Success because I just couldn't watch it...Jason Shadow wrote:So far, there have been only two points in this series that I could not bring myself to watch the first time through (although that didn't stop me from listening to the audio as I cringed). Re: Take these broken wings and learn to fly: S4 Pony Discussion (Screened episodes only)
Finale episodes!
Twilight's Kingdom, pt1 & pt2
Highlights of finale:
- Tirek! He starts scrawny, then grows, but his end appearance ends up not matching his start size. So there's that. He also doesn't look all that uncanny, despite being a centaur-thing. The whole 'magic between curved horns' is also a cool touch. Very good villain.
- Glimpse of the past! A potential new plot hook in the form of Scorpan, and confirmation of Starswirl's appearance/race.
- Tartarus seems very poorly defended in general. And has room for three, tops.
- Alicorn magic seems to be in charge of the sun/moon rotation.
- Alicorn magic is apparently the equivalent of megaspells. So Fallout Equestria confirmed, I guess.
- Derpy!
- Twilight gets a huge focus. Which is good for her, but bad for the rest of the Mane Six, who get marginal roles these two episodes.
- 34:00 - 35:30 in the video. Just go and watch it. Wow. This show started from 'cartoon for girls' and evolved to 'Dragon Ball Z'.
- Rainbow Power! Because the Elements of Harmony are for wusses, and toys need to be sold.
- Discord. Discord Discord Discord. He displays both a massive amount of villainous-backstab-idiocy and a massive lack of moral fibre with his outright betrayal. Sure, he gets the karmic betrayal of his own and learns a lesson (which then saves the day), but it doesn't erase the fact the episode's troubles wouldn't have happened in the first place if he had done as he was asked/intended.
- The whole 'Discord provides the key' plot element? Though fitting, it was kind of predictable after the first part. Especially after they pretty much signal what Twilight needs to do for her final key.
Twilight's Kingdom, pt1 & pt2
- FINALE COMMENTARIES OF ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN OF ULTIMATE DESTINY:
PART 1
- Castles!
- Don't be an attention ho, Spike.
- Cause that's Rainbow Pone's job, it seems.
- And Twilight's...?
- FEELS ATTENTION PLOT GO!
- Pinkie Pie cares not for your physiology. There are jokes to be made.
- "You're the new background pony!"
- The duke and duchess of stern serious faces and female baldness.
- "That's the second biggest flag I've ever seen!"
- Master of empathy, Spike is not.
- When in doubt, dope-slap
- AJ is watching you in the freeze-frame. Yes you, who are reading this. She knows what you did.
- Waiting!
- "This is my villain voice. Pay no mind to it, mortal."
- Twilight is obviously the princess of injury-causing tiaras.
- Songs! For all your whiny first-world-princess needs!
- Did you check the wiki?
- Barbershop quartet, go!
- "Also I almost killed everypony."
- "And because we can't get it off without surgery."
- Yep, carefully avoid her purpose.
- Yes, we've seen that symbolism already.
- Meanwhile, in Knockturn Alley...
- "Gee, I hope nopony horrible tries to murder me here."
- You mistake "friend or foe" with "rapist and/or mugger".
- Nerf Mana Drain.
- Remember kids, drain your ponies of their magical essence and you will grow big and strong!
- Princess Celestia: "Worst wet dream ever."
Princess Luna: "I concur."
- Callbacks!
- More canon!
- And then a future foreshadow-y pseudo-villain is introduced for future seasons.
- "Even though he looked like a tool."
- Starswirl confirmed for unicorn, I guess.
- Lesson to be learned: Being a whistle-blower keeps you out of the slammer.
- Relying on a dog as your only means of security for criminals was probably a bad idea.
- "It took us ages to get it past legal."
- Silly princess, plots are for side characters.
- Skeptical ponies are skeptical.
- Hire a few professional stallion-sluts, of course.
- Obligatory past episode references.
- Tempting fate much, apple pony?
- "I'm getting sued for this and I still have no fucks to give."
- I can't tell if I should be cringing at the terrible puns, or be impressed by how they 'work out'.
- Brony trolling levels: Maximum.
- "This seems like such a good idea. Nothing can go wrong with this idea." was said by nopony, ever.
- Yeah, TWILIGHT. Stop slacking with the arc plot.
- Obligatory duckface.
- Skeptical ponies are skeptical-er.
- Exit stage right.
- WHAT IF THE CRAZY ONE WAS RIGHT?!
- Books!
- Meanwhile, at Elm Street...
- SMASHING!
- Well, he's efficient.
- ...and a Terminator model, apparently.
- "The outfit is for the ladies."
- Did Discord just... squee?
- Tirek is too old for this bullshit.
- Oh hey, predictable plot element.
- Okay now Discord, just kill him and/or put plugs in your ears...
- Tirek is still in his 'Emperor Palpatine' fanboy phase.
- Well I'm sure he'll make the right decision and... haha who am I kidding he's a moron.
- NOOO NOT THE FLASHBACK CLIP SHOW!
- And then the Mane Six learn what everyone else figured out months ago with the magic of exposition!
- NEVER DOUBT THE PINK ONE, PUNY PURPLE PONY.
- Better check the wiki.
- Spike doesn't count. He never does.
- Scary unveiling! Except it kind of isn't. It's tough being an evil monkey.
- Long story short: Discord dun goofed.
- And then Bon Bon was a unicorn.
- Nooo not the Derpy!
- "Bitch be muscling on our turf."
- Okay, that plan is kind of bullsh-
- MY LITTLE PONEEEEEE
- Commercials, you come to a new low.
PART 2
- LAST TIME ON PRETTY PRETTY PINK PONY!
- "We need the Pink One for that, and we can't be arsed to call her over."
- TS: "But Discord is with him, and knows wher-"
Celestia: "SHUT UP THIS IS THE PLAN AND WE'RE STICKING WITH IT."
- "Well F*** you too Celestia."
- Twilight immediately regrets her decision.
- And then Fallout Equestria happens.
- "I have curved horns now. Curved horns are cool."
- Man those three look like they're wasted.
- Welp, Twily's a Goddess now.
- All together now: Blank flanks!
- "Pay no attention to the UNLIMITED POWER."
- Dis gon be gud.
- And then Shining Armor gets molested.
- Cadence: "So, what's the plan now?"
Luna: "..."
Celestia: "Shit."
- Meanwhile, at their magic...
- Twilight shows us how to deal with door salesmen.
- Queen of subtlety.
- Probably the same time you learned to say 'jumpin' junebugs'.
- NOTHING SUSPICIOUS AT ALL.
- Obligatory faic.
- "YES WE GET IT THE PLAN WAS FLAWED SHUT UP."
- GTFO, pony-style.
- That's is a pretty amusing image.
- And then Princess Celestia's stained glass fetish doomed Equestria.
- Tirek seems to have trouble with grammar.
- "Yep, this bling is a 100% guarantee. Nothing can go wrong from this point onwards."
- "And I'm also sure that nothing horrible or bad will ever happen to anypony, ever again. And that I'll win the lottery."
- Pinkie, you can quite literally squeeze through the bars. Why aren't you doing so.
- Spike even pushed his head through cmon it's the worst prison ever and you still can't get out?
- FEELS!
- GUILT TRIPPING!
- Karma's a bitch, innit?
- It's scientifically proven that betrayal makes you too stupid to notice impending other betrayal.
- Time for a training montage!
- Or not. Hope you studied!
- Teleport spam is overpowered.
- Does insurance cover that?
- YOU DUN GOOFED, BAD GUY!
- We interrupt this episode for some Dragon Ball Z footage. 1.5 minutes of it, to be precise.
- Mega-spells confirmed for canon, I guess.
- Let's take a moment to consider the fact that Tirek tossed Twilight into a mountain and the piledrive/suplex her.
- MORAL FEELS MOMENT GO!
- "Man, I'm power-tripping balls."
- Or you could, you know, kill him. And get the same thing...?
- You dun goofed, ya'all.
- And then AJ shows uncanny genre savvy.
- Taste the rainbow!
- BEHOLD THE POWER OF PROMOTIONAL MERCHANDISE !
- He seems a bit taller than he started as.
- Racial bros, represent!
- Those are gonna take ages to shampoo.
- Welp.
- Mane Six don't know what the fuck.
- Thank you, captain obvious. We didn't get this from the title.
- 'Princess of Friendship' is not going to get her many dates.
- Oh shut up you whiny dickbag asshole.
- SONG!
- Return of the Derpy!
- "We also have bling-filled castles."
- Who invited Lyra & Bon Bon to the castle?
- MAH LITTLE PO- oh wait there's cool music.
- Anddd then it's ruined by ads. Nice work, Hub.
- Welp, see you next season!

Re: Take these broken wings and learn to fly: S4 Pony Discussion (Screened episodes only)
Welllllllll.... better than the last Finale, that's for sure. And they finally learned how to actually fight. I don't think anyone can still claim this is a little girl's show after they destroyed half the country.
Something seems off about it though. It seemed kind of.... final. Probably wrong, but it seemed like the high point to end on. Like a certain carnivorous fish had been present, and certain individuals may or may not have gone airborne over said animal. The shameless Rainbow Pony marketing didn't help, though, and the end was kind of rushed, but whatever. Good fight scene made it good.
Inb4 splice of Twilight lowering the moon, and the Majora's Mask moon killing everyone.

I had assumed Twilight would've taken over the Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters. They did somewhat build up to that with all the focus its gotten, and the restoration work done on it. Nope, inside magic chest is magic castle.

Magic CRYSTAL TREEHOUSE LIBRARY Castle.
I was thinking about something. When was "It's about time"? Season 2? And Cerberus escaping was just a minor plot point in that episode. And they used THAT as the hook for this. How awesome would it be if that became the norm for this show? Every little detail and minor thing could be scrutinized, and it could at any moment be called back to as the beginning of a cause and effect train to some epic event. That would be pretty awesome, going beyond simple continuity.
Time for some S5 predictions based on this premise.

We meet the child of that one dragon who's scales were embedded with gems and looked just like the Mane 6's dragon costume?

The trick is that they seemed to have made his facial structure more like a babboon instead of overtly human like is original appearance. G4 Tirek's plot actually has shoutouts to multiple G1 villains.Zarhon wrote:- Tirek! He starts scrawny, then grows, but his end appearance ends up not matching his start size. So there's that.
