Ersa cocked her head in puzzlement and gave a drawn out, "Noooooooooooo. I just would think your work outfit would not suit formal occasions and that, while your outfit is certainly flattering in a way, you might want something more solely pretty for such events."

Ivana opened the box again, noting that the dress is floor-length, strapless, and open in the back - which is quite something given that most dresses are made for equines and Ivana does not share their body type. She closes the box again.

"It's tailored. How."

The dress now looks something like this.

Dress:

"The tailor pulled images of you from my mind. It was a relatively painless process." Ersa explained.

Ivana takes the box.

"Well, I doubt I'll be going to many fancy occasions, on account of me being a tasteless doll, but... thanks."

"Well, I believe I may have a way to remedy that and you're most welcome." Ersa said with a smile.

Gears lifts his head to respond to the Mage, somewhat embarrassed.
"Hmm? Oh...yeah...it's nothing. How'd the uh...the uh...the trial go?"

"Really? Not fancy enough for your taste anymore? What doll have you replaced me with now?"

"Ah. No, you misunderstand. I believe you will be going to more formal occasions in the future as long as we are associates." Ersa explained, ignoring the hostility.

"What makes you so sure that's going to happen, hmm?"

"Perhaps some surprises I shall keep to myself for now." Ersa said wryly.

"Well, if you're going to be so secretive about an alliance I know nothing about yet am part of, I'm very much not looking forward to it."

"I don't take jobs unless I know what I'm doing on them," said Ivana. "So you'll forgive me if I'm not enthused about becoming the mage's errand girl and going to your fancy parties without the knowledge that it would be worth my time."

Also, while Ersa didn't know it, Ivana thought there was something else of note about the dress that seemed like she should look it over again.

"We've been sentenced to banishment on the Moon, and we'll be incarcerated there as well," Quarrel explains with a straight face. "We've been granted twenty-four hours to bid farewell to our loved ones."

"I see. Well I hope you choose to accompany us in whatever quest the little baron has for us. As for the formal events, I suppose that would be entirely up to you. I do hope you'll attend, even if just as an excuse to relax a bit."

The Clockwork Mage just says nothing, waiting to see what Gears reaction will be.

Both Ivana and Ersa notice there were some special enchantment put on the dress... The mostly just some minor armor enchantments that nearly all Slayer outfits came with. But there was one major add on that Ivana might end up loving, it had a Mutli-outfit spell matrix in on it. Allowing this dress to basically be able to store upto five other outfits with in and would allow you to shift between each outfit in about half a minute. So not only did the gift be very stylish, but it had a good deal of function to go with it.

"You die if you relax in my line of work," said Ivana. "Luckily this thing comes with a crossbow holster. Among other things."

Gears gulps nervously, clearly worried by the Mage not responding. "Did it...did it go...poorly?"

"Didn't you hear Quarrel?" The Mage asked, just playing along for the moment.

"What? What do you mean? I didn't.... oh. How strange." Ersa said, not having noticed the magical properties until Ivana pointed them out.

"Wait... you're telling me you got me this... and didn't know it was magic?"

Best guess Ersa can give is that the magic add ons were put in cause of the fact they knew it was for a Monster Slayer or something... After all they did look into the phoenix's mind to make it.
