I don't really mind, none of them seems appealing to me. Assume Friendship Never Dies unless I say otherwise...

Oh, awesome, I had just about resigned to losing Penned. Glad to see you're still with us.
Majority seems to be Friendship Never Dies, unless anyone has last minute campaigning to do for another option. In any case, between Koli and the pets, I believe we've seen that I don't do well at keeping track of extra stuff for the party, so it's going to be on you guys to remember that you have that available.

Yeah, what he said^. I'll try to respond if possible, but for now I leave you with the puzzle of entering the caves.
EDIT: Bonus, here's an updated official map:
Probably has no impact on the game whatsoever.

@Bronymous.
Says that I can keep them suspended in place, but can I move them? Also, just out of curiosity, can they be positioned vertically as well as horizontally?
Solid Clouds(Stepping Stones) – Enchantment [Created by Kajisora]
Preparation time: 5 seconds
You may summon up to eight magical stone discs anywhere within 100 feet of you that you can see. The discs can between 3 cm to 1 meter in diameter, and are 1 cm thick. You can keep them suspended in place so that they cannot be moved (including by gravity) except by 2000 lbs or more of force. You may end or resume the suspension effect at will. These disks vanish after 1 hour.

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
Yes, you can move them- I assume the ability gives you some kind of telekinetic control over them, otherwise theyd be much less useful. However, as the IRL Horseshoe Falls at Niagara generate roughly 2500 lbs of force, the water can dislodge them. And yes, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to be placed vertically.

I hadn't noticed we'd changed scenes. Can we have map drawn of the area? Where are we in relation to where we think the cave is?

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
I don't know how helpful of a map I can give, as it needs a 3d representation.
To the west of town hall is the overlook of the falls (this is where Holy Smokes started the game, and where Sunflower was found unconscious, if you remember that far back) just on the other side of the fence, a meter or two down the cliff, is a ledge that can be walked on, and accessed from near town hall. Following the ledge will bring you up to the side of the falls, though you will be about 1/3 of the way up, and the cave entrance is much higher, inaccessible to anyone not flying. If anyone cares to dig up the old map of the town I made (I no longer have quick access to it), then I can mark it for you.

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
That's the one.
So on this map, the dark grey is essentially cliffside, separating the higher and lower sections of the town. The Scouts took you along the blue route, down a set of utility stairs built onto the side (usually authorized personnel only), to the lower over look which sits a few dozen feet over the bottom of the falls. The ledge path starts there, up along the cliffside facing the falls, to the Star, which is where it connects to the falls, a long way beneath the upper overlook and the cave entrance.
Clear enough? It's very difficult to explain.

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
So we're at the Star. The path continues behind the falls for some distance eventually coming to the cave, correct? And while traveling that path we would mostly be invisible from anyone looking at the falls from outside?

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
The path does continue under the falls, but its very narrow, and it does not lead to the cave. Where you are, you're only visible to onlookers if they decide to look straight down, or are across the river, but once you go behind the falls, you would be hidden.

Ok, the cave is under the falls and ledge is lower than the cave. Going on the ledge will take you beneath the cave, but you'll see need some way to get up to cave?

Correct. But you also have only a few feet of clearance between the falls and the cliff face to worry about as well.

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
Alright, I think I'm gonna call it. It sucks that we got all the way to the home stretch before this died, but with only 2.5 players willing to respond and no one posting anything in 3 weeks, continuing is pointless. Even if I did retcon it so that two of you are going through the dungeon alone, I'd have to rescale the whole thing (probably), and most of the endgame revelations wouldn't make much sense.
So if any of you are interested in what was to come, let me know and I'll give you a rundown of what was to be discovered by the end of the game- final boss fights, revelatory exposition, cliffhangers, etc.

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
Ok, so at least one player has asked about what was planned for the endgame, so what I'm going to do is dump all of my campaign-relevant docs.
First, the general campaign notes:
These next few docs are a bit random- you already had access to the Bestiary, I believe, and the other two better spell out the Chest Puzzle and the loot found in Figurehead's House- which you barely touched.
Finally, for anyone interested, here are all of my Enemy combat builds. A few of them are adapted from that old monster manual doc, the others are fairly nonstandard, and probably unbalanced- but all of my combats involved fluid mechanics, changing health and damage totals on the fly to make the combat more interesting (i.e., not too quick, nor too deadly.)
So those are all my notes. I also have some of the finer details still floating around my head, so if you'd like me to clarify any points or go into greater detail, go ahead and ask.
In any case, though, I wanna say thanks to you guys for letting me try this DM thing out. I don't know that I can call it a success by any measure, but at least I got the experience in. Thanks especially to Storm and Dodger for sticking it out all the way from the beginning- I feel like I'm ripping you two off, as you deserve a real ending for coming through this far. Maybe we can solo those, idk.
First, the general campaign notes:
- Docs:
- Overall notes
Upon entering the cave, between general stealth/combat sections, there were three discoveries to be made. The first is that Star was alive, but she's been experimented on. She is barely functional, mind broken, terrified, all that good stuff.
Second discovery is the Griffon (Garrison), who has apparently broken a Pinkie Promise he made earlier in the game and continues to do genral bad guy stuff- the effects of doing so come later.
Third discovery comes upon entering the final Boss room,, where the group finds Physical Medicine arguing with Shimmer (the BBEG) about his involvement in what's happening (this one of the plot twists, the "good" doctor was actually involved in the plague outbreak). He is dismissed, in one form or another, by Shimmer once the Party arrives. If Emerald were still here, she would have recognized the room and Shimmer from when she went through that magic tree. Cue Boss fight, and upon ending...
Shimmer reveals his motivations, and quotes the Nightmare Song, to which all of the PC's who have a Nightmare would have felt compelled to speak their "Final Line". This hairraising moment is then interrupted by a thunderclap and the arrival of a VERY angry Princess Luna (who, for all intents and purposes, felt a disturbance in the Force) Exposition happens, Luna explains how she is in fact NOT involved (for anyone who would have been suspecting her by now), and a detachment of her personal guard remove Shimmer off to Jail.
Once it's settled, you all get some face time with Luna to ask any questions you might have. Probing will reveal that she is exhausted from keeping the Sun up, and you can convince her to lower it; also, if you're persuasive, she might divulge some of the information around Celestia's death, including the name and/or location of the assassin. This would then end the game, and there was inklings of plans of a followup campaign involving some of the same characters (depending on interest) later on in the timeline*.
PC Nightmares, at least the ones that I kept track of and might have mattered by the end of the game. Anyone who wasn't playing during the first night sleep probably didn't get one, and of those that did, only those that are still playing would get to be part of the big reveal. Going back to Luna arriving in the endgame, she would also explain about the Nightmare song, and about the Nightmare that she invoked 1000 years prior A prudent party might or might not let slip that they inadvertantly released a Nightmare into the waking world....
The Void
These are just the rules to the Void. I admit I struggled with how to get you all to figure them out when there was no real IC option to do so.
These next few docs are a bit random- you already had access to the Bestiary, I believe, and the other two better spell out the Chest Puzzle and the loot found in Figurehead's House- which you barely touched.
- Random docs:
- Bestiary
I had planned to add to this as we went. Too bad you guys never got to see the Ripdragons up close.
Chest puzzle
I'm not sure how I felt about this one, since you guys brute forced it with no problem instead of solving it fully.
Loot Room
I did put a lot of work into this stuff- I think Storm took the bag of tricks, and a few of you had the stones, but they got lost somewhere.
- Combat Builds:
- Pegasi
At Level 1 (the bar fight) and at Level 4 (the most recent fight in the alley).
Blue Moon Ponies, and Koli
Juniper
Dream Cybugs
Encountered in the Void.Prince TerrusThe Red Alicorn
Ravenous
DIsconciousness, Griffon
aka, Garrison the Griffon, after being mind-wiped by Shimmer.
Shimmer
The Boss himself, whom I built ages ago in anticipation, and I'm sad he's not going to see combat.
- *Re: Timeline:
- This story has a loooooong timeline. A lot of the action happens in the first few years, but it comes to an end (more or less) more than 80 years later. I tried to use this story as a game setting, rather than write out a fanfic, but after 3+ years and only managing 3 or so days, obviously that was a mistake. But if you'd like to know more about what happens after this, then by all means.

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
The one thing that still puzzles me, what was Juniper's and Quick-Fix's role in all this. What was that machine, and what was wrong(if anything) wrong with Juniper.

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
Quick-Fix was meant to be the moral heel-turn of the game. He was obviously an unethical little dick, but ultimately was the "lesser evil" doctor of the two, and one of the options for helping you develop the cure and saving the town. However, Juniper was a third cure development option.
After her skiing accident, Quick Fix took her in and treated her with some experimental drugs. Much like Sunburst, she was treated against her will and developed an addiction, which Quick Fix used to his advantage. The machine was a prototype model of the miracle medical machine she developed, which Quick Fix intended to get her to polish off and get really working, for a profit (like the cure with Storm). However, her drug treatments addled her mind, and in time, while under the effects she would be docile and obedient, and when they would wear off, she would be come increasingly angry, violent, and unpredictable.
The runaround that Sunburst, Gearick and Storm gave Quick Fix and Juniper got her just a little more off her meds than usual, and like Sunburst, she decided she needed to escape. So, she bashed Quick Fix over the head with something, grabbed her machine, and ran.
Quick Fix would have helped developed a cure for the price, or if you decided not to trust him, you would have found her in the act of trying to escape, and could have helped her, which would have led her to operate the machine and distribute the cure free of charge (and then that would have led to either letting her leave as is or trying to get her medical attention, but that was far enough ahead that those decisions weren't fleshed out).
