Post Your Campaign Ideas!

I could go for a modern or futuristic game. Modern no magic might be a bit troublesome as it'd cut out like 1/3rd to half the utilities that exist.

Yeah, you'd have to re-flavor an awful lot of them to make them work, and even then you'd still have to cut out quite a few.

Which is why I like DnD, because they have a supplementary limited magic system. Not that I've ever played it, but I really like the idea.

Extra Post: Elder Scrolls Game, either LL or something closer to the actual Game system. If I ran it, it would be lore heavy, so I doubt I would run Ponies.

I'd be intterested in a high-tech magic or Sci-Fi campaign myself.



On topic: I once had this idea fora post-invasion equestria, where players were theresistance against some Big Bad Nation- I think I used the North Griffon Kingdom as an example.

Anyhoo. I have a thought on an at-home campaign that I would like some second opinions on.

Short version: When Pinkie Pie found the Mirror Pool, and they had to send all of those duplicates back into it? One was smarter, and hid. They missed it. A couple of years later, it starts duplicating itself... and starts World War Pinkie.

The players come in quite a long time later. The Pinkies have won, and they are just trying to survive.

So, yeah, post-apoc for a couple of ten and eight year olds girls.

That is a bizarre, hilarious, yet terrifying idea.

I probably would never utilize such a campaign... aside from the copy Pinkies being clumsy and disorganized, rather than malicious, I'm not sure they could be anything except minions when there's an instafix spell for mirror pool clones. The 'pony clone apocalypse' idea isn't too bad on its own, but I think it'd work better with a pony other than Pinkie... Twilight Sparkle army, now THAT'S a threat (and significantly more likely to actually DO stuff, Pinkie clones might just faff about.)

A Twilight Sparkle hive mind seems infinitely more credible, but would probably be more difficult if nothing else.

Also, why did you start the post saying that your post is how your necro in past tense? Shouldn't it be at the end of the post, or at least worded differently?

I'm sure the campaign idea is fine, but I'm worried that it could easily become bad and/or stale if handled poorly...

I on the other hand don't see the concept as sustainable for an entire campaign. It won't take long for both GM and players to get annoyed of seeing the same NPC/antagonist all the time. Even if each clone is slightly different, that's still only slightly. It's an idea that works for once session but, an entire campaign of it would just be very annoying.

I can't see Pinkie doing this, let alone a shallow fun obsessed Pinkie clone.

That ... was amazing. I had asked in my other thread if anybody had a pre-made campaign. Why didn't anyone point this out? It's both thematic and a pretty good starting point.

 Of course it's just an idea, no numbers for specific checks ... I'd need someone to spell out the traps, for instance. But still, a friend at work can create physical traps, no problem.

 For me, I'd love to pull from my own fan-fic, which in turn pulls from silent hill (which I've never played) and crosses it with Inception. So, the characters are plagued by horrible dreams that are debilitating them. They'll have to find a suitable means of entering dreamspace, and locating weapons (their EoH in dream-form, essentially) to combat the Big Bad who is sending bad dreams for ... reasons ... to these players.

 To really write that session up properly, you'd need to get a wild and crazy artist, and a genius psychologist, to create a landscape filled with hidden meaning, that a pony could walk right past and not be lessened for missing the details, but would be greatly enriched by the rightness of the symbology.

Interesting dream campaign premise, with a Luna lead in practically writing itself. I'd be down, but I have to confront my own demons often enough as is.

Since this topic has apparently resurrected, I might as well post the campaign ideas I've been bumping around to find out which (if any) should be focused on/ dropped.
1) "The Punchline." A Joke campaign, with heavy tendencies to light-hearted ignorance of darker subtext. Mild combat, with creative non-combat answers preferred. Similar backstory/setting to Xel's Joker's Canpaign.

2) "The Candle's Wax." A World of Darkness-esque campaign, more along the lines of Hunters: the Vigil than any other source. Semi-dark, moderate to a lot of combat. Death is a very real possibility.

3) (currently unnamed.) Social ponies with social problems in a non-canon town. Super-light, close to canon as I can get (meaning no cults nor Lunar Republic nor anything else along those lines.) Little to no combat. Prestige system instead of Traits (need to adapt Prestige system for PT:AoH) Possibility for MMO.

Been contemplating something but I want to see if there was interest. Anyways, a valid comment was made a ways back that got me thinking. Forum campaigns tend to move slowly and don't always get to test things the way a tabletop campaign can. Why not have a "campaign" that's a collection of mini-arcs designed to be run quickly? The background theme would be that these are part of a radio anthology so parties that come and go or parties that return make sense. Most are in-media-res so the party can get things like boons and destinies quickly. The setup should hopefully open up room for people to try things they might not take in other campaigns.

Look at the sheer amount of unexplored land. I kinda feel like running or playing in a campaign that focuses purely on exploration and adventure.

It can be Pony Tales or Living Legends, using some or none of the lore that map has, but I think it'd be an interesting idea.

It is a nice map, isn't it? Part of why I set my campaign there, was because of all the lands I could send my party off to, to find some obscure component.

Of course, I have to make matching cultures for the places ... that, I'm a bit less skilled at. But the rainbows must be constructed of the finest components. Some from the griffons, some from the cervids ... I should derail them and have them live with llamas for a week where no one speaks anything but Portuguese.

Although that last, would work a fair sight better if I actually spoke Portuguese. But I digress ...

Eh, just Google Translate it. That way it'll be doubly incomprehensible, and therefore doubly effective.

I'd make a campaign using that map, but there's two things keeping me from doing so:

1. I'm already running a campaign, and I don't know if I can handle a second.
   
2. If I could, It would probably not be a PT game, and would have a different setting, making that map rather unusable.
   

But if someone else were to run a game using that map (or any game, really), I'd certainly be interested as well.

I'm actually in the process of converting that map to a non-pony setting. I've already got racial analogues for ponies (humans), griffons, hippogriffs, bat ponies, diamond dogs, and a few races of my own. The hard part is creating my own lore, a fun process to be sure, but a labor-some one, particularly when using MLP for inspiration.

Well, specifically, they already have a good map of Tamriel, and the rest of the Elder Scrolls world, and that's the setting I would use in my second game.

I am now intrigued.

It may happen. If I ever get around to designing the races, then it'll probably move forward from there.

Hmm, you making Expies of the Elder Scrolls races or working on your own?

Expies... I guess? If that means what I think, then yeah, the 10 playable races in the games and maybe a few of the others- Daedra, some of the sentient monsters, dwemer, chimer, falmer, and just maybe a few that I've made up.

Only problem is that the key differences between the races are stats that are not applicable here (Altmer and Bretons good at magic, orcs and nords big beefy strong guys), or things like resistances, which don't quite match up in the Genetic Engineering lists.
