Re: Mystery Ahoof
His eyebrow raised, Brass smirks a little. "This'll just take a minute, miss, would you please answer my questions? As I asked, did anypony pass by you when your bangle was taken. Don't worry sir, it's not that big an issue," the cloaked pegasus politely and subtely pushes aside the mare's significant other, specifically in a way that would make him feel as if he was not a part of the current proceedings.
"Continuing, did you feel a tingle in your mane, as if someone was untying the bangle? And were any other mares looking at the same bangle as you when you bought it?"

River cringed at the memory; still so crystal clear. And yet before that... nothing.
Or wasn't there? The words of a song sprang to the front of her mind. She found herself singing quietly.
"We've been dancing all the night
And some time of this day
And now returning back again
We bring the garland gay..."
What did it mean? She was sure she hadn't heard that today. Although she could not recall the rest of the words, she felt she had something. She clutched at it for fear of losing it; as if someone might walk by and snatch it the way someone had snatched that mare's wedding ring...
She watched the mare carefully. She was talking to that one Pegasus that knew her name. Another stallion sat nearby; her husband, maybe? She continued to watch intently, listening until thoughts came into her mind...

Wanderlust's ear, already turned towards the bar, pricked up as he heard River's quiet singing. It tickled something in the back of his head, as most things did. For a moment he took his thoughts off the Stallion's sudden entrance to see if he recognized the song from anywhere.

Why did he have to get off of work early today of all days? Ah, at least he didn't get off earlier, or things could have gotten ugly!Dancing River wrote:

The little song was very quiet, so though the words weren't recognised, the tune was very obviously an old lullaby.Wanderlust wrote:

Re: Mystery Ahoof
"Thank you very much for your time, Mrs. Crystal. If you would stay here on moment..." Brass turns a hoof into his bulging saddlebags and fiddles around a little bit. After a few awkward seconds, he pulls out a beeping machine with wires and antenna, and shoves it in the unicorn stallion's muzzle. "Aha! here it is. Don't this. Psh, nothing." He throws it behind him, where it disappears. "Just stay here, I have to talk to somepony else about a missing wallet."
The pegasus walks over the drunk stallion and sizes him up. Frowning slightly, he addresses the stallion in an overly polite(you could even say condescending) voice, "May I investigate your saddlebags, sir? As drunk as you are, I'd like to double-check that you have actually lost your wallet." With a confirmatory burp from the...returning patron of the bar, Brass sticks his head into the frilly saddlebags one after the other. "You may wish to get that hole fixed, and you have a little something on your face."
He walks a short distance away, looks at the mare, then at the drunk, then lets out a long sigh. "I believe that there has been no theft, at least of anything material," he says heavily. "Sir, your wallet is probably still back at your house, or somewhere between there and here. There is a rather large hole in your bag that a wallet could have easily fallen through. Ma'am, your horn-ring is probably somewhere near that. I saw the makeup on your paramour's muzzle, and the stray hair on your coat matches his mane. If you really care enough to take off your ring before any..indiscretions, I think you should see a counselor about your marriage. Whether it relationship or legal, I care not. There has been no crime, except for one of the heart. Now Detective Deck, if we could get going? I believe we have business."

While the couple start to fight, a pony who walked into the pub just in time to hear the reveal walks over to Brass Wing and taps him on the shoulder. "If you're so good at solving mysteries, then perhaps you could shed some light on what happened to my watch?"

"Are you sure it didn't fly away from you?" he jokes, but then puts on a straight face. "I'm sorry, but I can't be solving every little case that comes along. I have a life too, and it's still waiting on the good detective."

"Keep you informed? Why do I need to tell you about police business? Do I need to tell them about police business Poe? I forget. Anyway, it'll surely be in the news if it's big enough. I need to deal with the murder, so Brass, River, come with me if you will."

"Yes, my watch. It's been passed down my family for generations, and now it's gone missing. Or, perhaps stolen. I don't know. I don't remember, I should say. I left my home with it in my pocket, checked the time shortly after, then I found myself on the other side of town, in front of this pub, with no memory of getting here, and no watch."
"Hold on a second, Deck. And no, you're not allowed to tell them about ongoing investigations, generally."

Wanderlust gets up from his table and walks over to the newly-arrived mare. "Excuse me. This is going to sound completely arbitrary, but does this song hold any significance for you?" He asks, humming the tune he just picked up from Dancing River.

Brass Wing perks up at the mention of memory loss and jsut about sweeps the new mare off her hooves as he "escorts" her outside. "Memory loss, you say? We've a friend here who has a remarkably similar dysfunction. Could you tell us the last thing you remember before your blackout?"

"Oh! Well, I was just on my way to meet a friend here, it was a couple minutes after I left my house, I checked the time on my watch, looked up, then suddenly I was just outside this pub, and I don't remember a moment in between." She looks at Wanderlust. "I guess, but it's a common lullaby. Everypony knows it."

After getting an earful, Beams returned to her seat with Silver Lining, shaking her head at the mare's indiscretion. "Today has certainly been...eventful. So, you mentioned plants. What's your favorite kind?"

Silver keeps an ear open on the current watch story. "Weeeeeeell, poisonous aside, I'm a fan of monkshood. What about you?"

"I've actually never heard of those before. Hmm... Well, it seems a little silly but I've always liked crystal berry bushes. Looks pretty when it's flowering and tastes good when ripe. It also has some interesting properties. Spill crystal nectar on a cold day and it actually freezes in an angular, edged, and geometric pattern."

The mare looks at a clock that just happens to be on the wall of the oub, and her eyes widen. "Unless that clock is way off, it was over an hour ago!" The baremare looks at the mare, then at the clock. "Oh, that old thing? It's half an hour slow."sunbeam wrote:"It was an arbitrary question. Crow simply stares at the new mare before making a comment. "Half of a hour? That is not much time at all."

"You know, Poe, you should probably try and help find that mare's watch. Or you know, at least get the report on the stolen object. I'd do it, but we both know how I've done on the smaller stuff today."

"'Smaller Stuff'? You're kidding, right?"
The mare gives Crow Wing a funny look. "You do mean an hour and a half, right? Otherwise, you must be very bad at math. But that's beside the point. Where is my watch, and why did I lose my memory?"

After quickly scribbling down 'monkshood' on a napkin and sticking it in her saddlebag, Beams asked Silver Lining, "If you're free, would you mind showing me around town? I'd like to get my bearings if I'm going to be visiting. Especially if you can show me a library."
