You manage to pick up the hoodie without disrupting anything else and move it to Palette. To Palette, his hoodie just seems to be floating.

Right away, you know that ~~arcana~~ magic would have been a bit more effective for two of your three purposes, but hey. You can try that again in time. What you can tell mechanically is this:

The cruxtruder's function seems multipurpose. It seems to be a storage container/extrusion method for something, but you can't tell what. There's also a great deal of pressure inside the machine, as though something is pressing to get out. The two bases, particularly the bottom one, seemed pointlessly big, but on further inspection, you can hear the low whir of gears and a him of magic from inside. Whatever this thing is, it's highly magitech.

Oh. And there also seems to be four digital clocks on it. None of them are active though.

The Totem Lathe is by far the simplest of them. It seems to be a specialized carving device for lumber or something. You can also shunt cards into it, which seems to offer some control over the carving process, but you're not sure how.

And finally, the Alchemiter. This thing is intensely complex and arcane, but from what you can gather, it seems to be a creator of sorts, instantly putting together...something. It seems that it needs to have something put on its smaller pedastal and scanned to work right.

The Totem Lathe actually has very little magical about it besides some programming to read whatever paper it uses as instructions. Beyond that, it's more or less mechanical in nature.

The Alchemiter, conversely, is incredibly magical. It's immensely powerful, which you suppose it must be to just summon the things it will summon out of thin air. It seems to use a laser reading system, not dissimilar to that which reads discs in a computer, but on a three dimensional scale.

The Cruxtruder itself is completely overshadowed mystically by whatever the hell is inside it. Whatever it is, it has some sort of base-level sentience and has an incredible level of innate potential energy.

Blank selects the punch card for deployment and starts to bring it to Skynight. However, he began to yawn and instinctively used the hoof he was using to control the cursor to cover his mouth, sending the card straight to Skynight's head.

More than ever, Bright Future wished she was in the same room with that device. If she could get her hooves on it... Just think of the potential!

But she needed to focus. Bright briefly massaged her temples, then focused on the image of the Alchemeter. Using her gift, curse, talent, skill, or whatever, Bright Future looked for the telltale signs of magic around the machine, the kind that so few noticed.

The arcane interference of the Telekinet and everypony on it is difficult to overcome, but you do surprisingly well. You can feel that it's very mystically powerful and seems designed to create things from nothing. Examining in a more mundane manner, you ascertain exactly how it operates mechanically. The laser arm unfolds and scans whatever cyndralical data device is placed on the small pedastal, and then the machine reproduces a perfect copy of whatever was programed into said cylinder on the large pedestal. Whatever the machine reads, it almost certainly has to be translucent for the laser reading system to work properly.

Hmm. A machine that creates matter from nothing. But in order to work, it needed some type of transparent device to work it. So they would only be able to make the things that they were permitted to make. However, if she could examine one...

Looking at your Phernelia registry, you see the other two free items as well as a new one labeled the Pre-Punched card. There are also a few paid ones, but the only ones you can afford right now is a CD labels gristtorent (100 BG) and a thing called a Punch Card Shunt (10 BG). You are absolutely positive the Alchemiter has no cd drive or place for a card shunt, punched or otherwise.

Seriously, it's just...floating there. No MAGIC surrounding it or anything. You mean, you've never actually seen MAGIC working either (some SKEPTICAL and perhaps HOPEFUL part of you wants to believe, against all evidence, that MAGIC is fake) and you know you'd probablly FREAK OUT about that too, but...

...it's like a freaking GHOST.

You never liked the idea of GHOSTS. Or most INVISIBLE things, really. Like, you know logically that INVISIBLE things must in some way exist, yet they have no COLOR. The NAKED EYE cannot detect them, which means for all intents and purposes they do not, in fact, exist to your own perception. That idea FREAKS YOU OUT a lot. And GHOSTS can be INVISIBLE all the time.

"Ouch!" the unicorn said as something flew into her face. She looked to the floor where the card had fell, picking it up in her telekinesis. She brought it back to her room and checked her labtop; Ah ha. GG made it. She unplugged her labtop from the wall - it had a pretty good battery, it should be fine - and brought it and the punch card down to the living room.

With that, she looked at the card again, and then bacl to the three devices. It looked like it might work for the "totem lathe"; she decided to see if it did anything...

The card seems to have a stylized light blue cloud drawn on it. When you place it in the lathe, it whirs to life, spinning around in a carving motion. However, as there was nothing between its clasps to carve, that accomplishes very little.

The Pegasus circles the Device, and despite the sunglasses, it's fairly obvious she's glaring at it, looking it over. There doesn't seem to be anything she could use it for...which has to mean it's vitally important somehow. The fact she can't tell how is...beyond frustrating.
Ocean glances at the message on her PDA.

This is similarly empty save for one thing. It shows a light pink cylinder of translucent crystaline material labled "Cruxite" next to an equal sign and three pointless and generic looking green boxes. "Perfectly Generic Objects" as they're called.

You do not get Cruxite by clicking. The way the atheniumm seems organized, thee Cruxite feels more like a cause than an effect. However, it is a safe bet the Cruxtruder is involved. It seems to have a cap of sort closing it up.

They seem to be figuring it out themselves quite nicely. Still, if it's that IMPORTANT...

LF: BTW, there should be a handle on the side of the thing you just put down.
LF: Twist it to get the cruxite out, then put that in the Totem Lathe.
LF: Then insert a punch card and you'll change the shape of the cruxite, which is important.

Skynight watched the lathe whir a moment before facehoofing. Of course. She decided to go to the cruxtruder; it seemed like it should be able to make something. She pressed on the top to try and open it...
