The thing stubbornly holds on to the tree as you try to lift it up. You hear the thing groan, followed by bird sounds...

The thing just retreats into the trees further, and you don't think you are able to pry the thing loose. It makes even louder bird sounds...

Most likely. We could wait for them to respond accordingly, or..."Sorry about all this!" Necrar calls up into the tree, holding up his shortened leg. "I think we got off on the wrong hoof! We're here to talk about the gems!

The thing up in the trees stops making the bird sounds. After a moment, the thing says, "No talk, only bring gems."

"Well," Aces said, a slow drawl. "Now we're getting somewhere. Why do you wan' gems?"

"No no. Only bring gems." It sounds like it climbs down slightly and becomes visible again, before it stops and says, "Where pony gems?...Where Barrel and Lurk?"

"Barrel and Lurk are in town, most likely." Snipe calls out to the tree-kobloid, walking over cautiously and using a bit of logic to deduce this kobloid was friends with the ones in town.. "My friend here saved them from a big-nasty-self-centered-meanie-pants." He gestures over to Storm. "And got shut up by the big-nasty-self-centered-meanie-pants because of it."

The kobold in the tree leers his eyes at the small pegasus. "If saved, why not Barrel and Lurk here with gems?"

"Cause." Snipe responds simply, grinning as he sees the kobloid and waves at him with both hooves, putting his gun into his wing. "We're here because Lurk and Barrel are still in town. Sorry to worry you Mister..." Snipe slips his gun into a holster on his side and flies up, smiling softly at the kobloid.

As you fly closer to the thing, your sharp sight identify it as definitely a kobold. It wears leaves of different colours, and carries a small woven basket on his back. The basket seems to have multiple sections to it, and you spot the snakes sliding into the top of the basket...

Snipe's eyes widen and he grins as he sees the snakes enter the basket.. "Snakies! They're ok! Sorry about calling you a meanie to the snakies. I was worried about them since their mouths were stuck open. They your snakies, Mister? Can I pet one of the Snakies?, Mister?" Snipe pulls off a pout holding his hooves in front of himself pleadingly.

The kobold nervously jumps onto a slightly more distant branch, backing away from the pegasus. "Pony not pet!...Why Barrel and Lurk still in pony town, when ponies without pony gems in forest?"

Snipe frowns, trying to sit on one of the branches. "Lurk and Barrel got hurt and are asleep. We came to look around. The others know more than me." Snipe glances down to the others.

Sparks shouts up into the tree. "The Big-meanie-pants well thinks that you are working for a dragon and he doesn't want to work with a dragon. Is he right?"

The kobold thinks for a moment before saying back, "Not know if big-meanie-pants not work with dragon..." The kobold shakes head, and then says very definitively, "Ponies distracting Undergrowth! Why ponies not have pony gems?!"

"Your name is Undergrowth?" Snipe tilts his head. "As for why we don't have pony gems...." Snipe sticks his head into his bag, looking around.

"There are no gems," Aces said as bluntly as possible, keeping things as simple as possible. "There won' be until Barrel and Lock ge' back, and they won' be able to until much later. Sorry."

The kobold becomes very nervous, and starts to back away from the group slowly, glancing behind him periodically. "If ponies not bring gems...why ponies in forest and approach Undergrowth?"

"Technically you approached us with the snakies." Snipe stays on his seat. "And we've said. We're looking into a supposed dragon here."

The kobold stops scooting away, somewhat more comfortable with the increase in distance. "Dragon want pony gems, like paper said."
The kobold then grumbles, "Undergrowth was here at trap; ponies came to him."
