Da usual commentaries
Quick & Dirty notes
- Spoiler:
- MY LITTLE PANCAKES: PANCAKES PANCAKES PANCAKES
- We interrupt your regular schedule of socialism in Equestria to bring you Animal Farm!
- Weasel approves of cleaning.
- MONTAGEEE!
- Plot point music cue! The castle is evil!
- The face of sincerity.
- This is how x-rated movies start.
- The princess of friendship! Just not to the lesser races.
- I MUST TALK AS UNCONVINCINGLY AS POSSIBLE.
- FREEEEEEEEEHHHHHNDS!
- My Little Pony: Now with more bloom!
- "I will shank you in your sleep for this."
- This is also how an x-rated movie would start off.
- The Princess of squatting like a jerk.
- "Get out of my house, Twilight."
- Someone's sleeping on a rock tonight.
- NO, NOT THE ADORABLE! OH GOD THEY'RE EVEN MAKING MUNCHING NOISES!
- Reused joke! Now in HD!
- No, Pinkie. You cannot go wrong with infinite pancake.
- Unless it's a choking hazard, apparently.
- HER MAJESTY, THE ROYAL PRINCESS.
- I can't stop watching this.
- Trypophobiacs, beware.
- How dreadful, Rarity.
- Well, at least she's getting exercise. Which doesn't matter for a cartoon which laughs in the face of medical science.
- So far, the moral appears to be "Sometimes, your friends will refuse to leave until you threaten them".
- THE PRINCESS OF FRIENDSHIP, TWILIGHT SPARKLE.
- "Hahah, I could have suffocated to death!"
- MULTIPLE-TIME SAVIOR OF THE LAND OF EQUESTRIA.
- Our fandom has wizards in its midst.
- Pinkie cares not for your hygiene.
- I'd have guessed 'You're a nutjob.'
- Well, that explains it. Thank you, exposition pink horse!
- "I learned nothing from the very second friendship lesson I participated in."
- Maybe hire a professional? You know, ponies with cutie marks?
- Rarity, she'd probably prefer face-planting into the pancakes.
- "A word that starts with 'sh' and 'fu'."
- "Except for Spike. And Celestia. And my parents. And brother. And Discord. And the cross-dimensional bipedal doppelgangers of you."
- She can stop whenever she wants to.
- Someone is going to make that plushie toy. You just wait.
- Also, where did he get that?
- Sorry ponies, you just can't ruin pancake day.
- SOOONG!
- Dashie's opening solo feels... off?
- Okay, girls, so you know that you need to get her books. Simple episode.
- Or it reminds you of something entirely different.
- ...or not have literal shit to clean up!
- Okay, that's... actually reasonable, I guess?
- Okay, so posters are cool too but they're of stuff she doesn't like and there's not Daring Do...
- Right, so obviously Rarity will be the one that brings the books.
- Applejack no. Stahp.
- Y'all fucked up.
- Apparently this episode is all about 'Don't say the F or SH word'.
- The voice of the audience, to the rescue.
- Pinkie Pie cares not for your disasters.
- "Screw you, marshmallow pony."
- Do not fuck with marshmallow pony.
- I can't help imagine Twilight is savvy enough to expect a complete disaster and has professionals ready for to fix the problems... which she won't have to pay after her friends take over the bill to save face.
- Activate eye-flutter.
- Apparently, Spike can float now.
- Or you could be SMART about it, and get all the shit out, and get some BOOKS.
- Like you're about to limit break.
- Oh relax, what's the worst they could do to you in a cartoon?
- Who are we kidding, you exist to be tortured for our amusement.
- Well, that answers a some questions and raises a whole slew of new ones.
- Aloe must be related to Twist.
- "But where else am I supposed to put all this jun- I mean all these decorations?"
- Not to mention they're obviously shredded.
- Scrunch-face wars!
- Holy crap, passive-aggressive Fluttershy is something.
- That's... a valid excuse.
- "My life is an existence of recurring agony."
- Apparently, nobody bothered to clean up the charred remains.
- FEELS TIME!
- Well, apparently that's how you stop a flying horse from kidnapping you.
- Well, good job on removing the ONE THING that Twilight could have liked.
- Y'all fucked up. Again.
- Yes, that is obvious, Rarity.
- Acoustics don't give a damn.
- Rarity is still hung up about the portrait.
- Light bulbs are slowly brightening up...
- Books. She wants books.
- Get. Her. Some. Books.
- GET HER SOME GODDAMN BOOKS YOU MORONS.
- Too soon, Pinkie.
- Okay, maybe you're on to something.
- Apparently not.
- SONGS FIX EVERYTHING! APPARENTLY!
- Wait, what the heck are they doing now?
- Y'all fucked up. AGAIN.
- Magic chandelier! Okay, that's sort of impressive.
- How does that work? Magic! Because screw logic!
- FEELS APPROACHING CRITICAL LEVELS!
- Pinkie Pie would be perfect poisoner, if only she tried hard enough.
- And of course, they all vandalize a room each.
- And then everyone was happy... Except for Spike, who got nothing.
Quick & Dirty notes
- Spoiler:
- Alas, no real 'crazyness' in this episode, but it did bring about some world-building, of sorts. The developers did a surprisingly good 'merger' of the new castle with the old tree. Kudos to them on that! Now they can start doing the proper, interesting episodes.
Sphinxes are a thing, according to the stray Daring Do poster! Finally!
Bulk Biceps is apparently a new (old?) addition to the spa twins employees. And can carry things in a way best not carefully thought of.
Sofas & Quills also sells beds! Or maybe it was only beds the entire time, and everypony else kept getting it wrong. Like with the seamstress guild.
Twilight Sparkle is still an adorable dork of epic proportions.
Earth Pony magic! If AJ's 'instant growth' trick is any indication.

Re: Oh, The Places You'll Go - S5 Pony Discussion
New episode! Now available with bombshell info and lots of fanon stuff!
So, serious notables:
- Commentaries! Now with bonus 'dream-catching' counter!:
- - You know, I never understood how they got that top part of the clubhouse to work without having a tree trunk going through the interior of the room.
- FANDOM BOMBSHELL TIME! Apparently apples and apple accessories are obligatory features of the Apple family cutie marks. Incidentially, the 'scissors' tag suddenly is about to get popular.
- It's either that or terrible alternatives.
- IT'S THE LAW!
- Fandom was way ahead of you there, Sweetie.
- Judging by the speed of the trauma symptoms, either Applebloom is one messed up filly, or the entirety of Equestria has the mental fortitude of a pancake.
- THREAAAAAAAAATSSS!
- There's drama, usually. And then you get wings.
- EAT BLANKET!
- "So we'll spend an entire episode answering them instead."
- Except the IRS.
- "Unless you get stuck in a repeating loop of horrific nightmares."
- TIME TO WIN THE BEST SISTER AWARD, Y'ALL.
- Who makes heart-shaped windows on the inside of a room?
- Yup, it's a dream. Nopony can be that cheerful in the morning. NOPONY.
- Pancakes: the pancaking.
- Congratulations! Like Princess Twilight before you, you've ruined the show.
- Yer' not a dog, Bloom. Obligatory jumpy.
- Meanwhile, miles away, somepony is getting buried alive in a sudden avalanche.
- Apparently, you're an apple poisoner. Fetch the arsenic.
- I AM YOUR FATHER, BLOOM.
- Hey, guns work too!
- Twitter gags: The twittening.
- DREAM SIGN #1: Lightning outta thin air! Probably!
- "So naturally, I'm going to abandon this job and give it to a wholly untrained child."
- "Finally, I can die!"
- Nothing can go wrong!
- "Note my use of lightning puns to make the situation more dire."
- Randall Munroe is crying right now.
- That's a dodge worthy of a Dark Souls pro.
- What purpose does calling them achieve?!
- LIKE A BAWS!
- DREAM SIGN #2: Instant clothes-swap, subsequent vanishing.
- DREAM SIGN #3: Those goddamn bitches. Appearing out of nowhere, that is.
- I am SO DONE with your horseapples, DT.
- Yes, by all means, taunt and bully the pony who has DEADLY LIGHTNING FLIES.
- Man, dream DT/SS are upping it up on the obnoxious scale.
- Welcome to Night Vale! Lesson-teaching genies now at half off!
- "This will not come to bite me in my literal behind, ever."
- DREAM SIGN #4: The houses in the background make no architectural sense.
- First time I saw this, I thought Lyra sprouted a mustache.
- Derpy sighting!
- DREAM SIGN #5: Berry Punch shows up running away from town, twice.
- Y'all fucked up.
- LETS GET DANGEROUS!
- Or not. The calls do nothing you numbskull!
- Ponies confirmed for skeleton wars! And Applebloom for an abomination of a tail.
- Well, that didn't work.
- "Five seasons, and we still haven't gotten that barn insured."
- Oh good, it was a dream. The show is un-ruined.
- DREAM SIGN #6: Rooster eggs!
- Sprinkles will not prevent the pancake's wrath.
- "I refuse to learn from past, now-repeating events."
- Show ruined count: 2
- Yup, still a master poisoner cutie mark.
- Apparently, the CMC suck at tick-tac-toe as well.
- Bouncy bouncy!
- It only took you five seasons. I'm sure the show will go strong for another 10.
- Tis' the law.
- GTFO.
- Begone from mine lodginge!
- DREAM SIGN #7: The CMC suck at house management. Wait, that one's plausible.
- Teleport traps suck.
- "Thank Celestia I have the memory of a goldfish. Otherwise I'd have let go of that idiot ball."
- "We're part of the master race now."
- No, not the interior decoration! Anything but that!
- You're tripping balls, Bloom.
- DREAM SIGN #8: Fish punch and doggy biscuits. Also, lack of pancakes.
- DREAM SIGN #9: Missing cranial leather-parasite, vanishing blanket.
- Suddenly, racism.
- Hurr Durr, I'm a dolphin.
- DREAM SIGN #10: Cranial leather-parasite has taken host of the red one. Orange one and red one swapped vocal cords.
- The show is pretty darn determined to teach the young public of Communist methods.
- DREAM SIG-Wait, no, that's normal for Pinkie Pie.
- Show ruined counter: INFINITY
- Best part of the episode.
- Being a viking is a reasonable career choice in Equestria.
- "I did it for the lols."
- Moonbutt, to the rescue!
- "I like metaphors, ok?"
- "You're a CMC member, of COURSE you ruined everything."
- "But mostly, you just suck at sleeping."
- Magical Morals time!
- "Hahah, no. Especially not on the internet."
- "Nonsense, there are two others who are as daft as you."
- Apparently, Luna has access to the Mystery Science Theater.
- Oh show creators, you glorious trolls you.
- "You tried, darling."
- "Time to get my bones broken for a butt-blemish!"
- Wat.
- Daww, the grounded one gets a moment of feels/reprieve.
- "We are amused."
- Yeah, leave those to Luna.
- "Just our qualifications and ability to survive in the job market."
- "Let' send her DT's scalp!"
- Status quo: Restored.
- All hail our new master, pancake.
- "Let's see that white marshmallow and her dictionary sister top that sistering."
- Except dead parents. Heck, sometimes it causes them!
So, serious notables:
- Spoiler:
- - Babs Seed gets a cutie mark! One that's unexpected, but actually makes a lot of sense! And it keeps the apple motif. Guess that's a thing with them.
- More pancakes! They're a thing apparently.
- Babs cutie mark brings about an implication with Appleblooms: She's not limited to the 'apple farming' field anymore. She can get any kind of talent, so long as it visually has an apple motif in it. But now the question is only worsened: What is her cutie mark? Construction? Crafting? One of the 'joked about' things from the dream? It's pretty open up to possibilities!
- The episode is pretty trolly on the creator's side. From obvious gags at the audience (the wink), to the implied fanon ones (the potion, and pretty much all the things Applebloom worries about being fandom questions), this whole episode is picking fun at us! Even the cutie marks of the other two CMC are trolled (well played, early preview shots. Well played.) about - the 'correct' activity being denied, and opening the possibility that they're NOT the ones they'll get!
- The CMC dreams trilogy is concluded! Luna finishes what was started a season ago. I sort of thought that Luna was acting a bit dickish this episode, what with the repeated inception-style repeats and overly mean nightmares for lesson purposes. But apparently it was Applebloom doing that... Filly has issues. Still could have jumped in there a bit earlier, Moonbutt.
- The barn is demolished, again. Poor place is a joke now.
- The dreams have a LOT of unexpected details in them. From subtle changes (they even keep them in the different-perspective shots!), to obvious 'hints' that stuff is a dream, it goes from seemingly normal to bat-shit crazy very fast.
- Another interesting tidbit: Rarity apparently 'cared' enough to vote a '1', compared to the other two's 'zero', in Sweetie's nightmare. This is notable since it is actually what Sweetie Belle believes/fears her sister would act.
- Overall, this episode is both a love letter to the CMC (yay flying Scootaloo!), and a sort of 'safety net' of sorts for the shows future interactions with the CMC. It seems to hint that the trio might finally get their cutie marks! And if not, well, the status quo can endure, now that practically all questions the fandom's 'worries' regarding the CMC's cutie marks have been laid to rest.

Just a heads up Zarhon, the uploader you are linking to for the episode is removing them one week after they air, to avoid copyright problems. You might want to remove those dead links when that happens...
Anyway, yeah, MLP confirmed for Pro-Pancake and Anti-Twitter...

Anyone notice Pinkie Pie appears in her chicken outfit at 15:25. Once an episode appearance must be in her in her season 4 contract.

(P.S. For those curious, because I was, Pinkie Pie didn't appear in three Season 4 episodes. Flight to the Finish, Somepony to Watch Over Me, and Leap of Faith...)

Re: Oh, The Places You'll Go - S5 Pony Discussion
Meanwhile, in the new episode, everyone's favorite rainbow colored eco-terrorist and "Vaccines cause Autism" crier tries to murder her pet, decimates the ecosystem and economy of not only ponyville but her hometown of Cloudsdale, tells Fluttershy that she sucks at animals, and makes Twilight Sparkle make the cringing-est Meme reference in the series to date. All because she can't handle her pet being away for a few months because she apparently has absolutely no other companionship in the world.
When Rainbow Dash goes for Worst Pony, she goes for the fucking gold.
Unrelated, R63 aged up Scootaloo sighted, someone's fanfic is getting in my episode.

Re: Oh, The Places You'll Go - S5 Pony Discussion
You know what time it is, y'all!
So! Wow. This episode, for all it's 'mild' appearance, is pretty damn deep as far as it's psychology goes.
In non-psychology stuff:
- The moral is very in-tune with what kids need to learn: Coping with the loss of a pet. Real subject, lessened in severity, but still treated seriously.
- Slippers! Adorable tank/Dashie slippers.
- An absolutely fantastic portrayal of the 'whos on first' joke. Which is surprising it took so long, given how perfect the setting is for that kind of thing!
- More insight on weather-crafting stuff!
- Dashie gets away with a complete act of terrorism with zero casualties! Hooray! The only real nonsensical part of this episode.
- Apparently, cloud houses are as secure as a wet blanket. Robbing a pegasus must be ludicrously easy. Or Pinkie cannot be contained by mere clouds. We also learn that the houses are probably stable enough to support non-pegasi, or that the Mane Six have a good method of reaching her home (balloon? Wingpower?).
- A look into Spike's new room!
- Angel needs to hibernate as well, as well as the tea-sipping bear. So, Fluttershy is pretty lonely during that time, other animals notwithstanding.
- Moar Daring Do book cover! This one without a title and pretty blurry, though.
- The episode where Larson ruins everything.:
- - Rock track!
- Taaaaaank!
- So apparently, seasons arrive much like the ice-cream does.
- Episode callbacks!
- Tank is not interested in your egghead ways.
- Oh yay, winter.
- That is actually cool looking sledding.
- That's right ladies, he's available.
- House MD would diagnose it as super-cancer.
- WINTRY FRIEEEEENDS!
- "I'm not saying he's dying, but he's totally dying."
- "It's a veneral disease. Which brings me to my next question..."
- ANIMAL LESSON TIME FROM FLUTTERSHY-SAMA!
- Why does that bear have an actual teddy bear?
- Stage 1: Stupidity.
- Rainbow does waaay too many drugs to know how sleeping works.
- Pictured: The opposite of an expert.
- Also, concussions. How is it not dead yet?
- "We still have 15 minutes of animal abuse to go through!"
- "Screw that crazy mare, I'm digging in while I can."
- Stage 2: Triggered.
- Beavers confirmed for Judaism.
- U WOT M8!
- Context!
- She mad.
- Scrunchy face!
- Alas, her alcoholism is rubbing off on Tank too.
- Stage 2: UNFATHOMABLE ABYSS OF STUPIDITY. NONE WHO ENTER MAY LEAVE WITH THEIR COMMON SENSE UNBRUISED. Also, Grinch face.
- This is a pretty elaborate joke.
- Cartoon horse physics!
- Villain song time! Because she's totally doing terrorism and ruining lives.
- Or make grenades.
- Yes, skiis are essential for the season.
- OP is a duck.
- Pictured: bureaucracy in a nutshell.
- Well, there's your solution: Get an atrium and heater. Not destroy the ecosystem.
- Behold, the magical morphing snowball head!
- "I've nuked cities for less than this."
- She's still got the skills to be a ballerina.
- "Too long, didn't listen."
- "It's like they've got an industry in making weather!"
- Stage 3: Good old-fashioned terrorism!
- Cloudsdale is laughably easy to infiltrate. How is it not conquered yet?
- How did she unscrew those?
- Good thing they have tortoise-sized uniforms.
- "Don't worry, you're almost done with your animal abuse quota."
- Lure one of the CMC near it.
- And they can't provide anyone with life-nourishing liquid. Yup, good plan there.
- ISIS would be proud.
- One dead tortoise, coming right up.
- Who puts rocks in a snow barrel?
- And then she died from horrific burn injuries.
- Or the massive trauma!
- Or from being sucked into a propeller!
- Or centrifugal trauma!
- Or explosive decompression!
- Or Larson being a terrible human being!
- Why is she still alive?!
- And then everyone dies in a horrific avalanche.
- Or not.
- "I stole literally everything of value you own. Your houses have shitty security."
- "Well, she does have a bounty for acts of terrorism.."
- Steal her slippers!
- Fluttershy's laying it down hard.
- Stage 4: Feels!
- "Also, revenge. Sweet, sweet revenge."
- "You've got dead parents, you know how to fix it!"
- IT'S CONTAGIOUS!
- "I swear, I have a soul! Somewhere out there!"
- Well, that takes the fun out of dead parent jokes. And makes her eligible for being Batmare.
- Destroy an ecosystem or two, probably.
- Who makes Dashie-slippers? Where did a market for those come from?
- "And by hibernate, I mean never appear again this season."
- Rarity's upping her communist fashion.
- "Finally, I can die!"
So! Wow. This episode, for all it's 'mild' appearance, is pretty damn deep as far as it's psychology goes.
- Spoiler:
- - Rainbow goes through all the stages of grief, more or less. Denial (second opinion, etc), anger (snapping at her friends), bargaining (let's end winter!), depression (baaaaaaaaw!), and finally, acceptance (daaaaw!).
- One of Rainbow's motivations appears to be fear of loneliness (it's an actual song line!).
- Rainbow super-cares about Tank in the off-screen time. Enough to justify acts of complete wonton destruction! And this is just her pet! She either sees it on a higher level than her friends (family? Does she still have one?), or she'd do even worse in the name of her friends. The song also pretty much affirms that Rainbow Dash doesn't give a damn about non-Tank at that point and knows the full severity of her actions! Very close to becoming a villain in her own right!
- Applejack also has psychological issues, which will never come to light. Just like her super-dead parents.
- Fluttershy is acting up on the lesson she learned from the breezies.
- Twilight apparently is not the crying type, or is in fact soulless and very good at hiding the fact.

Re: Oh, The Places You'll Go - S5 Pony Discussion
I feel like this was a water-tester by the showrunners to see how they could broach into real-world subjects like death, and I can't say I'm sure they pulled it off or not. Throughout the episode they put every effort into insisting that Tank was just going into hibernation, no mention made of death of any kind. Then though, if you take it at face value, you have an entirely out of character reaction from Rainbow Dash, at least in my opinion. Like your friend is going on a trip for summer or something, Tank's just going to not be around for a little bit, and Rainbow completely loses it? It doesn't make sense, unless we accept that she and the rest of the mane 6 are still basically children. That, or she has the object permanence of a dog. Utilizing the 5 stages of Grief also drives home the hint at death, but again, since it isn't a permanent situation, they don't fit quite right.
Coming from this, especially in the Denial Stage, wherein Dash refuses to say "Hibernation"- because apparently its so tragic- then the show itself backtracks on itself. While everyone else is being sympathetic to the death of a pet that isn't actually happening, Twilight outright has no idea what the fuss is about. She is written in a way that undermines the entire theme of helping a friend cope with loss, which seems counterproductive. If the episode was about loss and/or death, you would think she would follow along a little better in contrivance, like the others, rather than diametrically oppose their sympathy with the logic of a viewer.
It seems to me like they wanted to introduce a heavy subject, but were unwilling to use heavy subject matter, and the result was confusing at best. All that aside, though, it was still a very entertaining episode, even if the "Winter is Coming" line gave me a concussion from facedesking so hard.

Re: Oh, The Places You'll Go - S5 Pony Discussion
I don't think it's a matter of "unwilling" so much as "not allowed to by Hasbro/higher-ups". It's still a kids show in the long run, and they've intentionally avoided even mentioning death (the closest was Dash yelling at Lightning Dust how she almost 'destroyed' her friends) so far. It's implied, of course, that it's there (AJ's parents, a funeral, the implied consequences of the various villains...), but they can't quite break the ice without 'moral guardians' freaking out or something, or the apparent risk of kiddies 'learning' about death. Given such restrictions, it's close enough to be recognizable or relate-able for the moral.A1C Bronymous wrote:It seems to me like they wanted to introduce a heavy subject, but were unwilling to use heavy subject matter, and the result was confusing at best. All that aside, though, it was still a very entertaining episode, even if the "Winter is Coming" line gave me a concussion from facedesking so hard.
The "Winter is Coming" is entirely Larson's fault.

Re: Oh, The Places You'll Go - S5 Pony Discussion
New episode! Now with more AJ being overshadowed by a background character!
Have some more carefully-spoilered messages.
So, what did we learn this episode?
- Cutie Marks show up when you 'realize' what your destiny/future will be, but not necessarily when you realize how that will come to pass.
- Cutie Marks can make private life miserable if you don't obey them. Those janitor ponies got it rough.
- A new type of pony 'build'! Big Mac is no longer the token 'big guy', as this one is modeled after a realistic horse!
- Sweetie Belle is improving her magic!
- AJ will always get the spotlight stolen from her. ALWAYS.

- Spoiler:
- - Welcome to Hatville! Wear a hat, or else!
- "We're under contract to never be more than a city apart, Applebloom."
- That mare is overenthusiastic with that rope.
- Rodeo clowns. The nerds of regular clown.
- And by dangerous you mean 'The CMC are present'.
- "Unless you're under the effects of status quo, in which case it's all risk, never reward."
- The shadow horse nose!
- F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
- [Rodeo intensifies]
- Pay no attention to the crippling horse injury which will eventually demand a bullet to cure.
- "Tag. You're the designated butt monkey this episode."
- Well, guess they're lost in the deserts, dying of thirst by now.
- Dang.
- "My hat is a cactus. Your argument is invalid."
- Even the fillies are calling bull.
- "We have yet to destroy the very concept of rodeo with our powers."
- IT'S A HORSESHOEEEEEEE nope, not interesting.
- I can't tell if I should laugh or cringe at that joke.
- Torches & Pitchforks ltd. will have to do business elsewhere.
- How do they know his name?
- Have you learned nothing from Sarnath?!
- Finally, a smart decision from the Truth Pony.
- Oh silly Braeburn, you can't contain destruction incarnate.
- You dun goofed.
- This is how you earn photos on milk cartons, kids!
- Sweetie Belle, the voice of reason? EVERYTHING I KNOW IS A LIE!
- That's an awesome looking owl.
- Why is there a thick forest in the middle of this desert?
- And then they got eaten by timberwolves. Cut to happy credits.
- Guess who's getting his other legs broken!
- Ride on what?
- You dun goofed.
- Look, a plot hook!
- Say hello to mr. Serial Killer!
- He... dun... goofed?
- It takes skill to give someone brain damage without actually doing anything. Hats off to you, CMC.
- Well someone's being an Eeyore.
- The CMC are working on overdrive tonight.
- Why the enlarged posterior?!
- I can imagine pig latin being racist in Equestria.
- Damn it, stop taking the fun out of this.

- Like a dweeb.
- [RODEO INTENSIFIES]

- Time for a lynching!
- "His life is a joke..."

Going to go out on a limb here and venture that CMC do get their cutie-marks this season. They have been building up to it. This is already the second episode this season featuring them, and frankly I can't really see them dragging it out for any longer.

Re: Oh, The Places You'll Go - S5 Pony Discussion
Between the 1st/2nd, 4th, and 6th episode, it would seem that Cutie Marks are a core feature of this season. However, it might be just an overload of CMC episodes at the front. I mean, just look at the last season. Remember the buildup to the Equestrian Games which just turned out to be Spike At Your Service 2? Or the whole "episodes with a ponies name in it = they get their key in that episode" theory?Cardbo wrote:Going to go out on a limb here and venture that CMC do get their cutie-marks this season. I would not put it pass the writers to dangle a string in front of the audience and pull a bait and switch...

Re: Oh, The Places You'll Go - S5 Pony Discussion
The show's creators already revealed that the season will feature 'Cutie Mark Magic' as a central or overarching theme for Season 5.
As for whether the CMC will actually get their cutie marks? Depends. These few early episodes were already hype-inducing that the CMC might get their cutie marks, and the previews were also pretty trolly/debunked on the subject.
Not to mention that it would mean the writers have to make a new 'gimmick' for the CMC, get them to grow out of 'dangerously-irresponsible-actions-for-cutie-marks' as a easy comic relief method. Unless their club expands for more members and they become 'mentors' of sorts, of course. They even sort of 'enforced' this with the last dream episode, allowing for more leeway for the writers to keep them blank-flanks.
But at the same time, we know that the show isn't afraid of making changes to the status quo (Twilight's wings, her new castle, losing the Elements of Harmony...), so it's not implausible that they're saving it for a finale.
But it's likely either going to be:
a) Spread over three episodes (one for each, presumably when they can't interfere/interact with each other, akin to how Spike's pet-sitting was handled). This is unlikely though, since that can wreak havoc on the season for those cases when episodes are aired in a random/incorrect order for that season, leading to discontinuity or unintended spoilers for future airings.
b) Condensed into a single one (finale or penultimate episode, all three get them at once).
It's also a possibility that the same reveal will include:
- Scootaloo getting over her flying-handicap for good (as seen in dream).
- A reveal of what Applebloom's talent is actually supposed to be (it's vague and possibilities are pretty wide, so far).
- Sweetie Belle's doing something big/cool/amazing with her in-training horn magic. It's quite possible that Sweetie Belle will get 'dragged' to her Cutie Mark, just like her sister was!

Re: Oh, The Places You'll Go - S5 Pony Discussion
After a two-week break, it's finally time for a new episode! This week, we have Discord in the spotlight!
Snappy Episode Commentary!
So, quick notes!
- Celestia's attitude and scheme is both terrifying and refreshing. Can't help but feel like it's foreshadowing a descent into madness. She also proves rather anti-potent, along with the Mane Six.
- Against all odds, the CMC didn't ruin a public, formal event. They also come along with their sisters and family surrogates.
- The segment of the party seemed a bit... drawn out. Lots of focus on Discord's juvenile rage, whilst good for the plot, isn't all that entertaining after you've seen it several times already, and the 'stand up comedy' segment was too painful for artistic/entertainment purposes. Discord was surprisingly non-chaotic for its procession as well - up to a point, at least.
- Smooze picks up on Discord's lack of funny with his distracting innocent antics.
- Discord is a major douche again, but apparently that's okay because he is so detached from reality he doesn't understand basic principles. Welp.
- Tree Hugger! She's a hippie! Yup. Can't tell if I like her for her lines, or just how surprisingly well her blatant, over-the-top stereotyping puts her in the same background-pony boat as Maud.
- The Pink One proves yet again to be a horrifying prospect for a Chaos Spawn, and yearns for the day she will claim your soul.
Snappy Episode Commentary!
- Spoiler:
- -And here we see the elusive best ponies in their natural habitat. Such marvelous creatures...
- I sense obvious hippie jokes.
- 1/10 dentists approve of ceramics.
- SHIPPING ALERT, SHIPPING ALERT! DANGER! DANGER!
- That outfit is familiar, yet its reference eludes me.
- Time for another counter: This time, it's the Discord Douche Display (DDD)! Starting off with #1: Cake theft.
- REEEEEEENDSSSSSS!
- Remember kids, inter-dimensional beings of chaos can molest you whenever and wherever they want.
- Well, the gala is doomed. Again.
- It must be awkward to play a game that's effectively about... you.
- FEELS! Followed by bad touch.
- This episode has plenty of faces.
- Rainbow is bad at cards.
- Dang, guess he'll have to reset the episode now.
- There is no context. Only the realization of one's swiftly fleeting mortality in the face of The Death Of All Things.
- All the faces.
- NOTHING IS SAFE ANYMORE!
- HIPPIE JOKES DETECTED.
- Pinkie's going to have a hell of a time finding the Cake's bodyparts again.
- Well, you're not.
- DDD #2: General asinine behavior.
- He mad.
- Why do I like the hippie stereotype so much?
- MEANWHILE ON REDDIT. Bonus note for the thinking tree continuity.
- Get it? It's dust bunnies! LAUGH DAMN YOU.
- Housecleaning: You're doing it wrong.
- It's not easy being a moderator these days.
- Somepony's vocal cords gone and went Twist.
- You gon' die, son.
- And thus he went on to die horribly.
- ...Eaten by monsters, no less.
- SCHEMING!
- "And by enjoying, I mean watching with sadistic glee."
- He looks good in a reference tux.
- Crystal ponies would like him.
- DDD #3: Ew.
- Quick reminder that Discord is cosplaying as a chaos sorcerer.
- TONIGHT, SEMPAI MUST NOTICE ME!
- The CMC wranglers regret their decisions, but take comfort that all their pain will soon be blissfully over.
- I'm not sure if I should feel proud or ashamed that I know the word meaning of every hippie-ism she's spouting in this episode.
- DDD #4: Hacking at a deaf pony.
- I feel like this season the creators are just testing how far they can go with pissing at the censors. What with the memory-blasted stoner.
- DDD #5: I don't even need a reason for this one.
- I'm starting to think that Equestria's concept of a mild recreational drug would murder an entire hospital.
- I've seen enough kids shows to see where this is going.
- DDD #6: Crushed hopes and dreams.
- Maybe I should do an 'awkward' meter as well.
- Did someone say awkward face?
- SHIPPING ALERT, ALL HANDS TO BATTLE STATIONS!
- This is how most fanart turns out.
- DDD #7: Dissing best monster.
- Somepony's indecent.
- Nice to see Equestria's policy on theft prevention is still non-existent.
- HE MAD, SYMBOLICALLY.
- This is painful. I weep for whoever had to record John De Lancie do this, as he reveled in the pain and misery he was producing.
-
- Why hello there, little poltergeist/shining reference.
- You dun goofed.
- So apparently, Celestia's true weakness is any and all food products, and obvious 'jammed' jokes.
- Meanwhile, Applebloom is suffocating.
- Pinkie Pie gives no fucks. Maud has so few, she can float.
- What.
- Please tell me she's not going to save the day.
- Yup, this is a thing that is happening.
- WHHHHEHHHEENNNNNEEHHHH
- Clearly, we have a new member to the Mane Six.
- He mad, chaotically.
- Took her a while to start tripping major balls.
- Suffer not the Hippie to live, apparently.
- Why do we even have the Mane Six around anymore? And what's Celestia doing, besides laughing?
- Well, so much about their shipping. Now it's just gonna be super awkward and transfer to Tree Hugger.
- Moral get! John De Lancie is still a terrible creature though.
- Pay no mind to the pony about to be subjected to a fate worse than death.
- Translation: Stranger danger.
- That is a very specific party condition.
- Celestia's idea of fun involves 'acceptable losses'.
So, quick notes!

Re: Oh, The Places You'll Go - S5 Pony Discussion
I'm roughly... 8 minutes into the episode, and my brain is shutting down from all the references and cameos. Firstly, the Gala is happening again, and with Twilight sharing the responsibilities this year it seems Celestia managed to find a dress to wear this time. Discord is Discord, but oh my god he brought the smooze to the gala. What.
This episode is nuts.
This episode is nuts.

So, seeing how the season is now one quarter over, any opinions on how the season as a whole has been turning out?
