The Golden Rule
DON'T BE A DICK
DON'T BE A DICK
Follow the above rule, and you'll avoid 99% of potential problems.
It should be emphasized that making a small mistake will get you a friendly reminder not to do it anymore. It's only if you ignore a warning or deliberately break a rule, or are hostile, obstinate, aggressive, argumentative, etc, that serious punishments start having to be handed out. Please don't feel like this rules list means that you have to walk on eggshells.
Just use common sense and listen to admins and mods when they tell you to do something, and you'll be more than 100% okay.
Note: It's worth noting that we are human and our decisions are always going to be subjective. We want this to be a friendly and welcoming community for great new ideas and campaigns for the Pony Tales system. Thus, we have just about zero tolerance for any mean-spiritedness, insulting other users, racist or sexist language, any hate-speech of any kind... You get the idea. It's fine to goof off, but not if it ruins someone else's day. We care a lot about people's experience on here, so let's make a community we can all enjoy. If someone needs to have a fight, there's a whole rest of the internet out there. Here is our happy place in the magical land of Equestria.
Your faithful servants,
The Admin Team

WARNINGS, PUNISHMENTS, AND BANS
----------------------------------------
First of all - we need your help. There's no way moderators can see every post made, so if you think something violates one of the forum rules described in the post to come; just click the exclamation point icon on the post itself and you can immediately let us know about it. You can click the report button on any post, including a staff member's post, to instantly let us know about what looks like a rules violation or a fight-in-the-making.----------------------------------------
Now for the rules themselves. We operate on a tiered warning system. Depending on the severity of the incident, we reserve the right to repeat or skip tiers. Extremely minor incidents may receive multiple temporary bans. Extremely severe incidents may skip someone straight to permanent banning. However, generally speaking, for typical incidents, a person's third ban within 90 days will usually be permanent.
Warnings show up on your profile, but they are not permanent. Over time, your warning level will decrease back step by step to the second tier. It takes 60 days for a step to be wiped clean. However, if you have a habit of getting warnings regularly, your case will be reviewed and it is possible your warnings will be made permanent.
If you attempt to push a rule as hard as you can without "crossing the line," thinking you can get away with it, you will be regarded as being obstinate and deliberate, and you can expect to receive a MORE severe warning than if you had simply broken the rule in the first place. DO NOT DO IT.
Even though we give out rule reminders as warnings, ignorance of the rules does not exempt you from punishments, especially in the case of more severe violations.
When you violate a rule, you will receive a friendly reminder of the rules as a first warning. We understand accidents happen, so first warnings are a chance to correct the behavior without you posting being affected. | |
If you violate that rule (or any rule) again, want to back-talk, or are being particularly obstinant, you will receive your second warning and be TEMPORARILY BANNED for 24 hours. | |
When you come back and you violate the rules again, you will receive a second warning and be BANNED for 3 days. | |
If you grossly and deliberately violate the rules out of spite, you will receive a severe warning instead and be BANNED for 7 days. | |
You have received your final warning. Any bans beyond this point are permanent. | |
You are being given one last chance out of kindness at admin discretion. Do not expect to get this; it's a pure gift of charity. You may want to seriously consider voluntarily not posting on the forums for a week. This is the absolute rock bottom you can go before... | |
You have been PERMANENTLY BANNED. You have a better chance of winning the lottery than ever being unbanned. |
PLEASE MAKE SURE TO ALWAYS CHECK YOUR MESSAGES. You may have received a PM from a moderator, which require immediate attention. Ignoring them can garner severe consequences.

THE RULES
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
Behavior
(All behavior violations receive the standard warning progression)
1. No Flaming, overt hostility, or harassment. Flaming is direct or indirect attacks on another member of the forum. Treat your fellow forum members with civility.
2. No Trolling. Trolling is attempting to manipulate other forum members to respond in anger or hostility to you.
3. No excessive profanity. Mild profanity is not prohibited, but this is largely a family friendly site, so please keep it to a minimum.
4. No bigotry towards other members. You're free to have any beliefs you want, but you are not allowed to dehumanize other members. This includes, but is not limited to: race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, political views, or subculture.
5. No drama, especially off-site drama. We don't care what someone did on another site, it's not our policy to moderate based on other sites.
6. No throwing fits if your game design suggestion is turned down. Not everything can be incorporated into the official handbook.
Moderation
(All moderation violations result in an increase to the standard punishment)
1. No lying to administration during moderation disputes and no lying about any moderation decisions.
2. No disobeying the moderation staff when they tell you to stop breaking whatever rule you are breaking.
3. Do not make a thread attacking or complaining about admins, mods, or forum members. If you have a dispute, PM a moderator.
4. No Rules Lawyering. The rules list is finite and not all encompassing. Just because something is not explicitly forbidden in the rules does not necessarily mean you are allowed to do it. Use common sense.
5. Admins have the final say in all rules and moderation disputes.
6. Under no circumstance say "I must have missed that in the rules" or "I didn't read the rules." Ignorance does not excuse your actions.
General
(General Rules violations have varying punishments depending on the severity)
1. No extremely obnoxious posts, signatures, avatars. Examples include, but are not limited to: Extremely large images, youtube videos in signatures, and flashing avatars. This is defined by admin discretion. Use common sense. Offenders receive standard warning progression.
2. Do not post anything that is Not Safe For Work. This means absolutely no pornography, tasteful nudity or otherwise. Minimum 24 hour ban.
3. Do not post or discuss where you can find roms, emulators, warez, cracks, torrents, child porn, or anything else illegal. Minimum 7 day ban.
4. Multiple accounts are strictly forbidden (This may be adjusted at a later date for roleplaying purposes). First offense is a minimum of a verbal warning and all extra accounts deleted. Second offense is a permanent ban.
5. DO NOT BAN EVADE. Ban evasion is subject to an immediate permanent ban.
6. Do not use a fake or proxy IP address. Your IP address must be genuine. Otherwise it's too easy to evade bans with new accounts. If you persist in using a fake/proxy or otherwise falsified IP address - we'll have to assume the worst (that you're King Sombra trying to sneak in) and treat it as ban-evasion.
7. Don't post advertisements for other sites. You can use your signature for links to other sites, as long as they don't break any other rules, but don't post advertisements for other sites.

Re: ***RULES*** (Please Read Before Posting)
Thanks for writing all this up Karilyn. In general folks, don't worry too much about everything - the wicked moderators aren't out to get ya. Just be kind to others and civil in any disagreements, and I'm sure we won't have a problem. Also, hope you don't take the above language as anything hostile in any way - it's not meant that way. It just helps to be clear in these things. You probably already know that Karilyn's a very lovable person.
We're looking forward to seeing you in the forums. Let's make Pony Tales great.

Re: ***RULES*** (Please Read Before Posting)
Indeed. As long as ya'll are reasonable, we're reasonable too. A permanent banning is something that I hope we never have to use. Ideally this system is put in place so that we never have to use it because people will know what to do and what not to do.
Don't feel like you have to walk on eggshells. Nobody's going to get in trouble for a small mistake. I hope I've made very clear that it is not small mistakes which get people in serious trouble... It is obstinance, aggression, spite, and deliberate rule breaking.
