Of the mane 6, I like Applejack. My actual favorite is the fan characterization of Lyra because it's hilarious and I lover her colors.

Mine changes a whole bunch. When I first started watching, it was Fluttershy. Right off the bat, after the first half of the pilot. After Swarm of the Century, Pinkie Pie was my favourite. As of right now, Rarity is first place, with Pinkie in a close second (PP is also the only one that I have a toy of, and I received it as a birthday gift just after I started watching the show last year).

Out of the background ponies, I think Octavia is my number one. But I also get all fuzzy inside anytime I see Derpy and Dinky together.

You are absolutely right on that one. Tabitha St. Germain is a melodrama genius! Every line she speaks is just dripping with style and flair.
I do still like Nicole Oliver a lot, too, so I survive with the Celestia knock-off, Cheerilee. Razz

I'd say Twilight is best pony. Perfect mix between Celestia and Luna (heh... get it?) But nah actually its because she's adorable, loves magic, and has very creepy mental breakdowns (just like me!). She redeemed the word "twilight" in my eyes after the books about sparkley vampires, and I love the whole concept of the sun and the moon, and how she brought them back together again. 2nd best pony is Discord even if he's not a pony. He's alowed to break the rules like that.

...But she's what my group of friends would call a "deep-fried twinkie" type of person/pony: Great, interesting, and impressive, but only tolerable in small doses with time spaced between occasions. Still, I've noticed in S3 she's gotten a bit of a sharper tongue on her, which in my mind actually evens her out a little bit, making her better. (Like her casual mockery of Fluttershy in the Discord episode).

For best pony-were-they-someone-you'd=have-to-hang-with, it's totally the Flim Flam brothers. We could make a tidy profit together.

When I first started watching MLP, I immediately fell in love with Fluttershy (who didn't?). I initially found Pinkie Pie to be loud and obnoxious, but around Smile, Smile, Smile, she moved up as my favorite pony, partially for her eccentric nature and hilarious antics, but also for her extreme positiveness. I used to not care much for Rarity, but she does have some of the best lines in the show, and certainly the best delivery of her lines. My least favorite of the mane six is probably Rainbow Dash.

As for best pony, that would be Firefly. When Rainbow Dash kicks a dragon in the face, she just makes him mad and endangers her friends. When Firefly kicks a dragon in the face, she rescues her friends, and the dragon and all his friends run away. Technically, I suppose the army of dragons was simply pulling out after completing its mission, but I stand by my choice.

I didn't. Fluttershy still annoys me. Best Pony is a Pinkie/Rarity split for Enjoyability/Respectability.

Thing is, Firefly's still badass, even by FiM's standards. The point of contrasting her with Rainbow Dash was to show that they both act in similar ways, but when Firefly does it, it actually works. Given that Firefly didn't get much characterization beyond Rescue From Midnight Castle, I've decided to adopt as my headcanon for her that she has a personality similar to Kamina from Gurren Lagann, so that might bias me somewhat.

As for Fluttershy, she can be frustrating when you wish she'd just grow a backbone, but this is more than balanced out by her selfless altruism. And her adorableness.

Smooze is best pony. I always find the erase-edits weird, but I assume they're erased for a reason. I like to assume it is because they accepted Smooze as their lord and savior, but realized it might be frowned upon and quickly hid it.

You can go through every pony in the series, literature, and fandom, and say why they're best pony if you want. Everypony has a reason to be best pony.

Twilight is best pony because she approaches things logically, is dedicated, excitable, and just a little bit overzealous.
Rarity is best pony because of her strong work ethic, ambition, realistic portrayal of her element, and knowing when to be dramatic and when to be serious.
Derpy is best pony because of dat bubble butt.
Apple Fritter is best pony because of her sincere work ethic and down-to-earth looks. Also apple fritters.
