Whoops! This is exactly why I need to check the OC threads more often. :/

You had already posted, though... I'm pretty sure we were all waiting on me by this point. I've been a bit distracted.

OOC: Rolling heal to figure out what information he can get from nature.
You're going to need to define that one a bit more. What about heal or how exactly are you using it to gain knowledge of the forest?

I know what you're trying to find out, but how does your Heal skill let you do that. Knowing plants and animals is more a Naturewise check.

Yeah, but there's no Naturewise skill. Heal is the closest that comes to it. Heal being basically Biology. If nothing else, what other skill would you suggest?

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
I must have only used that term in a different game, Naturewise falls under Streetsmarts, but instead of knowing about places or people in town, you know about stuff in nature (the woods, desert, mountains). Heal can really only be used to identify or treat things, with "biology" being one aspect. If that's unclear: Biology isn't Heal, nor is it Streetsmarts or Histroy or anything else, but if you were to take FK: Biology, you would get a bonus to Heal for checks that involve recognizing biological inconsistencies, or to Naturewise Streetsmarts for recognizing species and the like.
So to answer your question, Streetsmarts is the appropriate skill you would be using. But we call it Naturewise in this situation.

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
Alright, since Storm's Heal and Streetwise are both at 7, though Heal is trained, would it be okay to just hack 3 points from my roll of 18 to give me 15, or would you like me to reroll?

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
Say what you will about 3.5e's... 53+ skills... But you never encounter a problem of a skill not being covered by an existing one.
Nature seems like a weird one, like how Athletics or Acrobatics could cover most physical feats, "Knowledge" tree skills seem more appropriate than "Horse-sense" for knowledge of plants and and animals in the area. But at the same time, noticing something being "off" is Horse-Sense. But to know that something is off in the first place you would need the knowledge unless it was glaringly obvious. Like, to use an existing skill, if you looked at a line of varied species of Tanar'ri (succubi, dretches, balors, vrocks), trying to find which one is not, in fact, a Tanar'ri but instead a Baatezu (say, an erinyes or a hamatula), ostensibly, you could Perception, it's detecting a forgery, but at the same time, a Knowledge: Arcana check should have a far lower DC to identify which is which, since it isn't seeing a deception of a hellspawn, but merely pointing out species.

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
Well, the reason for using Streetwise as Survival that I have in my games is because you'll never be using them at the same time.

...Yeah...
I'm sure there are many overlaps and arguments to be made about which skills happen to work in which situation because of why. Luckily, this one happens to have precedent, so the call was easy to make. Streetsmarts means knowing or learning about an area, and what I call Naturewise is precisely that, for nature instead of towns. Simple.
In the future, though, if you want to roll a specific skill for something and I ask "how are you using it?", then feel free to postulate and theorize all you like about how it works. I'll probably allow it, if its sensible enough.
Yes, you can keep the roll if you want.

I thinking that would be best. Either way, the roll is still a minor success.

The trick is to build build a tiny road in the middle of the forest. Then, a street exists, so you can be wise around it.

Star and Jaquir, again... oh well, they can play BGP for the time being.

Sorry for quietness on my part, I always seem to miss the updates you post by a day or two somehow.
Also, updating Jaquir to the new trait system since his current one has a pre-req now.

I am in agreement with Jaquir's questing for the red oak while the others search OOC, but Emerald doesn't know the others are on the case, she thinks they stayed behind to help out the ones that abducted her friend, so she's going to be mean to you.
Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
It took me until my third puzzled read through until I realised you were talking about... Ummm... Oh dear.
We'd better finish this story arc quick before everyone else forgets the lost PCs name too.

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
Doesn't help when some people don't use names in their posts, Appkes. :p
Would it really hurt to lead a post with "Jaquir this and that..." or the first non-speech item to have their name attached? It makes it easier for me to remember. I haz a bad memory. Second thing that goes, so they say.

Assuming we'll ever hear from Star again. Elfy hasn't been on in a week or so.

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
Tribalist, my dear DM. Tribalist. Somewhere between active thought and "my grandmother can really say some racist things at times" kind of way: She was raised in a very haughty family with particularly certain views of non-unicorns, and then was cast into the lowest dregs of society... The kind of dregs that, well, reinforce the negative viewpoints. Being smart though, she cerebrally knows its wrong to do so on a general scale, so she tries to act extra helpful to the ones she feels she can trust.
Element of Magic, ladies and gents.
EDIT: What was the first hint? The slurs against pegasi? The slurs against griffons? Me saying earlier on in the thread "Wow, Emerald is turning out to be a bit racist"?

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
So I was correct in assuming that that was a racial slur.
Neat.

Re: The Sun Sets OOC and info
Well, I figure it was close enough to the alterations on real peoples to their slurs without hitting a hammer over the head on the "African" connection to the zebrafolk. Got to maintain a balance. Strictly speaking, a more appropriately inappropriate appellation would be "zebbie(s)", over even "zoobs", but neither were reminescent enough of the thought "racial problems", and sound more cutesy if anything.
