The roll was for the slap, to help him get over what was mind controlling him. What Storm said was incidental. And not a Persuasion check.

Well regardless, trying to snap him out of it or talk him down is what draws the larger penalty, while restraining him or otherwise physically keeping him away draws less of one. So while applying athletics to it nets you a higher roll, it would have been better used to actively impede him, to maximize your efforts.

EDIT: Though it doesn't really matter, a 29 with either penalty is a failure, and there's no one in a position to assist you.

Is Dodger still being geased/mind controlled/whatever to go up the mountain or did that stop when he passed through the arch?

Well, you'll all find out anyway. Yes, from his perspective, they have vanished. They can still see him, if they look back, but cannot hear him if he were to yell to get their attention. Storm cannot go through the arch any more, nor can they. He may be able to find another way to them.

Ok, this is dicey, but if flying around the arch doesn't work, I was thinking of using "Magneto Is Best Pony" utility talent on the arch, hoping that there's some metallic, magnetic content in the rocks to try and dislodge the arch and disrupt the barrier.

You know he said the barrier was magnetic-like not necessarily magnetic in nature.

But the arch could be reinforced with steel, or the runes could be drawn with iron dust, if what he's somewhat hedging on. Lodestone in the focus point, not breaking the barrier itself.

If you don't have a specific target in mind, you can roll Perception to "feel around" for a magnetic or metallic source.

Everyone else, meanwhile, gets to roll Perception in general.

For those several small pockets of metal, is there any way to tell if there's a load-bearing one? For the large piece of metal, is it roughly 200 lbs or less?

Well you're supposed to experiment with this, but no, the metal pieces are small and seem to be embedded in the rock, kind of like shrapnel. The stone at the middle is less than 200 lbs though.

The reason I asked was because the talent is 1x day. Didn't want to blow my chance with this by trying to lift something that was too heavy. But this pretty much answers my question. I was originally going to go with the large piece.

No, 6 is my base Heal skill. A Nat 1 would make it 7. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
