Marked, your comments reminded me of something I meant to suggest. After combat, I was thinking of launching an Instant a Party, to boost our rolls until the end of this dungeon and recover some magic points prior to our extended rest.
What I was thinking was...instead of skipping it, I was going to reflavoured it as a group story time, for each player to tell us something about their home realm, or their past or...something. It's in character for Compass, since she wants to know about those places, and might help with a little bit of roleplaying. Just want to check if you guys are interested in that.

Dice don't like me. It's a fact of life, the same way you get crits on uncaught pokemon at low health, but never on gym leaders.
EDIT: Actually, out of curiosity I just ran the numbers. Here are my d20 rolls for the game.
6, 4, 1, 20, 8, 10, 6, 1, 14, 1, 1, 6, 9, 16, 20, 1, 4, 14.
The mean of that is 7.8 repeating. The ratio of ones to other rolls is 5/18 and the ratio of 20s to other rolls is 1/9. So basically Midas' abilities are just psychotic levels of inconsistent.

After all, the backstory is that everyone loses the game eventually, leading to just one pony standing... Yeah, point of the unspoken premise is "This one will be different!"- but what if it isn't? What if one of us do die- then what?
PvP Battle Rouale-style combat? Spitting in the eye of fate by going on anyway and hoping we can find a trick to winning?
It seems like there are ways to still tell a story here, and even a 'bad' scenario, where we lose has promise... since it means this particular game becomes part of the history y of them, and you could a new one for another six.
