Playing in the Sandbox

Tordek, upon seeing the tentacle attack his fairy ally, slams his axe into it before turning his attention to the main beast and hitting it with an axe as well... but not too well, so he decided on a different, more insulting strategy.

"Your mother was a coyote and your father smelled like cactus juice!" shouted Tordek. He had no idea if that would get the beast's attention, but it couldn't hurt.

The tentacle is a bit tougher than Tordek expected and while his attack clearly wounds it, it's still functional, which it proves by going to smack him for his foul language.

Tentacle 5 hits Tordek for 3 damage. Unless he Slashbacks. Not that I expect that to happen or anything. *rolls eyes*

@Xel: Probably because you are the first thing to attract enemy attention and give yourself vulnerability.

As the tentacle swings for Tordek, he swings right back at it.

Alma remains where she was, allowing her energy to flow around and through her. The sand at her feet dances and swirls as she grips her focusing stone, and watches to see where she might be needed.

The monster seems to sense Cyrta's weakness and the remaining tentacles all smack her back and forth between them until she passes out.

The Pixies tries her best to stay in the fight... But sadly does pass out...

"Cyrta-san!" Skaimos yelled as the little pixie passed out. He angrily turned toward the monster and sent a wave of telekinetic force toward it.

Despite Skaimos' fireball not seeming to do all that much damage, the eyestalk reels back, and several tentacles immediately start wailing on him. After a moment the eyestalk gives him a glare, which is followed by yet another tentacle smacking him.

Tentacle 2 attacks Skaimos for 4 damage. Tentacle 3 attacks Skaimos for 2 damage. Tentacle 4 attacks Skaimos for 4 damage. Eyestalk subjects Skaimos to Vulnerability 3 (save ends). Tentacle 1 attacks Skaimos for 5 (2+3) damage. (That's 15 damage in all.)

Edit: The attacks from Tentacles 2-4 were reaction attacks. Not bonus turns out of nowhere or something.

Tethe watched as the tentacles began wailing on Cyrta and then Skaimos and growled deep in her throat. She turned towards the beast and pointed her spear at it. "How dare you, you misplaced calamari!" And with a cry of anger she dashed forward, drawing her spear back and leaping into the air and slamming the spear down into the eyestalk. "I'll have no more from you!" The energy in the spear discharged with another flash of light as Tethe grabbed on. The spear began to draw in energy from the creature and when it was pulled out launched the mystic ball towards the downed pixie. "Come comrades! Attack! For Vengeance! For GLORY!" She yelled out as the energy within her flared out before plunging the spear back into the eyestalk again. Noticing the tentacles coming after her in retaliation, she pulled her spear out, launching the mystic ball of energy at Skaimos this time, to stab out at it as it drew near.

combat stats:

A tentacle swats at Tethe, trying (and failing) to distract her from the eyestalk, and as the eyestalk is (painfully) aware of Tethe, it dodges away from her counter strike. After Tethe's assault, the eyestalk looks like it's barely clinging onto life.

Tethe was reaction attacked by Tentacle 1 for 3 damage and her Slashback didn't effect it. The eyestalk is bloodied.

It's now... um... everyone but Tethe's turn. Friggin Royal Command.

Thanks to a mix of the paldin's magics and her cries of combat the Pixie gets back up and attacks with the most powerful fireball she can pull off right this second.

Yes, Cyrta is at 15 HP. The eyestalk and Tentacle 2 both die.

"Careful, everyone! The monster tends to focus its attack all on whoever hit it last! I'm going to see if can get some control over its...head or whatever it has, but I'm going to need some time! Try focusing on the tentacles for the moment!"

Skaimos hunkered down and tried to concentrate. His main problem at the moment was that the Wolf had a tendency to send up new tentacles to fight. He hoped that he'd be able to put a stop to that.

Tordek once again assaults the main body, aiming to get the beast's attention. He figured that it was the tentacles doing the most damage, but anything to get their attention away from his companions.

Alma takes advantage of the opportunity by... taking a seat. She sits and meditates a bit more, watching the others. Cyrta was in need of assistance, and Alma could provide.. in fact she could do much more than that. Sand swirled around her as the Desert responded.

Perfect Focus.
Tordek: 30 HP, 4 PiPs, Status: Resist 3, Focus

Alma builds her focus a bit more, and then releases it. A wave of energy reaches out and finds Cyrta, providing a soothing effect. Immediately after, the sand beneath her rises in a wave, which she rides to Tethe's side. She says nothing but allows her aura to wash over her, giving energizing Tethe and giving her an opportunity. The sand swirls around her, faster and faster.

Tethe looked over at the Genasi suddenly beside her as energy began to course through her. "haha! Thanks for the help!" She felt her magic pool into one of her hands and with a flick of her wrist, sent a small ball of white magical light at Skaimos which broke in a wave over him when it hit.

Combat Stats:

Because I want to save time, I'm just going to say I'm allowing Skaimos to use his previous roll for saving that was at the incorrect time and say he succeeded on saving vs Vulnerability.

Skaimos' turn.

Skaimos stood up. Thanks to Tethe's magic (and to her distracting the beast), he was now fully charged and no longer suffering from the effects of the eyestalk's glare. He turned his attention to the rock that he assumed was the creature's "head" and outstretched a hand toward it. He then sent out a massive burst of psionic energy toward it. In this case, the idea was not to impress an emotion, but to take control. Skaimos could feel the energy seem to break off like strings, each tying themselves around part of the creature's mind. When he felt he had a firm enough grasp, he closed his fist and pulled it back toward himself, like a puppeteer pulling the strings of a mannequin. "Your will is mine," Skaimos said. However, he wasn't exactly sure how true the statement was. His training was mainly concerned with smaller, less monstrous targets. He didn't know how much of the beast he controlled, but he was fairly sure he could at least keep it from sending up more tentacles for a while.

Tethe blinks noticing the tentacles coming for her and grins, as one misses and the next hits her lightly. As the last one comes in through she reaches out and grabs it in her claw. "You don't have your little eye to protect you this time!!" She roared out in triumph as she drew the spear back and lanced into the tentacle, the energy around the spear exploding in a flash of light. As Tethe released the tentacle and drew back however, energy continued to pulse inside the weapon. The instant the spear touched the sand to help Tethe keep her balance, the magic shot down into the ground and began carving glowing lines into the desert.

Moments later it was done, a large magic circle glowing with power carved into the sand, the air above it rippling and distorting. A skeletal hand burst from the distortions and pushed it aside like a curtain as it seemed to appear in the world from thin air. Nine feet tall and clad in armor made of bone covered its body, and skeletal wings spread from its back. In its bony hands it held a spear seemingly made out of a giant spine. Energy came out in waves from the bottom and the top of the armor, looking like rolling black flames. A bone white mask, nearly featureless, acted as its face. It floated behind the Dragonborn, who looked at it with confusion on her face before giving her spear an accusatory look as if saying 'what did you do?!'
