"Well, unless our numbered new friend here knows of any classy eateries on dis' island, da best we've got ta' work wit' be, well, someting' of a hunch a' mine. Also, I believe da' bartender may be on ta' someting' here..."Lyntermas wrote:"Unless anyone's got any other leads."
Shallow proceeds to take what was left of the strange-looking drink, re-pouring it into a another bottle, and stashing it in his pouch.
"A drink dis' strong mite' just come in handy."
Shallow leaves behind a note, with a recipe for his "zombi juice", for the bartender to find later, as payment for the drink he "bought". He stood by the door of the tavern, playing with Whisper, whilst waiting to see if he could be of assistance to the others.

"Hmm...well, there is one place I know of if you're willing to pay a bit more," Sixty-Two smiled. Inside, of course, he was thinking bits and pieces of complete thoughts all rapidfire; they were along the lines of "Oh boy, these guys had better have some info I can use in my search or at least give my superiors for all the trouble they've put me through I swear I'm walking right into the lion's den if these guys find out I'm with the Marines or the Marines spot me by chance I'm doomed!"
He cleared his throat. "I do apologize for taking so much time out of what are surely very busy schedules of yours, but would you all do me the honor of following me to this establishment? I can up the deal to 'dutch'; surely we can each afford to pay our own way, no?"

Torque shrugged. "If you insist. Anyways, thanks for leading us around. We might be wandering about all day otherwise. What is the establishment called anyway?" "Oh, by the way," Torque said a bit softer. "Thank you for...putting up with us so far, I guess. I mean, I've gotten used to Zenith and Shallow, and...let's just say that I've seen stranger things than an emotion-eating kitten. Most ponies might have just left us to fend for ourselves after their "weirdness threshold" has been crossed, but you've been taking it all in stride, or at least making the effort. And you have my appreciation for that."

"It doesn't have any name in particular," Sixty-Two said as he squinted into the rising sun. "Just an eaterie connected to one of the local universities. Have I mentioned there are universities on this island? Lots of them. Great place to come to if you're wanting to study-"
Torque suddenly interrupted, not out of any sort of malice or lack of listening on his part, but merely (apparently) out of a desire to say something important before he forgot again.

Sixty-Two blinked, twice. "Oh, uh..." he let off a sheepish smile. "No problem."
And for some reason, the Naval Pony afraid of Water suddenly felt like the world's biggest jerk.

"Now as you were saying? Study what? These Uni's are good for studying something... But you kinda forgot to tell us what." Boomer asked as nicely as the rude, socially inept, crazed mad bomber could.
Re: Grand Line Adventures IC
Torque raised an eyebrow at Boomer. "You know what universities are, right? Schools of learning? I studied at one a few years ago, got a degree in mechanical engineering in record time. Learned a bit of history, even took some elocution classes, although that was primarily to deal with the fallout from...group projects." He shook his head. "Anyway, we could potentially study any subject under the sun. History, politics, magic, geography....chemistry." He glanced warily at his satchel. He had taken the "coal-powered" schematic back from from Boomer, but it was the...other one that he was thinking of at the moment. Even disregarding not knowing how the thing worked, how does one FIND tungsten?

- Spoiler:
- Perception to notice Torque lookiing back at his saddlebag: 10 + 9(Bonus) + 1(Morale Boost) + 3(Trained to Search for Gems) = 23. I...actually don't think body language applies here? Like, I know it's technically body language, but it feels a bit like giving someone with Freaky Knowledge of Chemistry a boost to know that H20 is the chemical formula for water. Still, if Lyntie thinks it applies, 28 instead...
If I got high enough to notice (probably did either way since he isn't trying to hide it), the rest of this post exists. If not, it doesn't. Simple as that.
Hearing Torque's words and seeing him look back at this saddlebag, Sixty-Two put what pieces he had together relatively quickly. "Ah, some 'research', I see. Something nefarious hidden up your nonexistent sleeve?" he asked in actually quite a pleasant tone of voice.

"...Not "nefarious", per se. I've got a schematic for an engine of sorts that even I don't fully understand (and given my expertise, that's saying something). It's kind of hard to explain: I would be able to put it together, but I wouldn't know exactly how or, more accurately, WHY it works. There's a series of equations that come with it, but it would be a challenge to decipher them. At this point, I'm just hoping to figure out where to get the materials to build it."

"True, true. Your ship-shielding and my coal-powered propulsion system still need the parts to put them together. Once we've gotten some money, we'll probably be able to get what we need from a shipyard or something. However, the materials for my "pet project" are a bit more...exotic. But one thing at a time. Let's get to that university. Lead the way, 62!"

"Alright, alright," Sixty-Two relented away from his now genuinely-piqued interest, "So long as you promise to let me have a look at that schematic of yours later."

Torque was silent for a moment. He wasn't entirely sure that showing off this unknown technology to relative strangers was necessarily the best idea. Granted, 62 seemed like a nice guy, but Torque didn't know what would happen if this schematic fell into the wrong hands.
On the other hand, science was about collaboration and progress. At worst, 62 wouldn't learn anything that Torque couldn't. At best, he might be able to shine some unexpected insight. "...You know what? Sure, you can take a look at it later."

Shallow follows the "scholarly" duo. As they discussed schematics and plans, he interjected:
"So, Sixty-Two, wat manner of crafts and skills be da' university we be goin' ta' teachin?"

As Shallow follows the others to the university he can tell that the sent trail is still headed in the same direction except for at one point the trail heads leads into an alleyway before returning to the original course.

"Looks like mah' mark be da' skulkin' type.", Shallow though.
As he peered into the depths of the alley, he considered his teammates: This trail probably wasn't their concern, and he should probably just inspect it himself, saving himself a few unwanted questions from the others. On the other hoof, he didn't feel secure going into it alone, lest he burden his crew through overconfidence by forcing them to get him out of trouble. Looks like he'll have to compromise a bit.
"Hoy, pons, hold up a spot. I tink' I just saw someting' peculiar in dis' alley."

The main object inside the alleyway that catches each your attentions is a rather singular dumpster. The handle is suspiciously cleaner than the rest. Around the dumpster there are almost unnoticeable amounts blood and a few spots that are slightly cleaner than the rest of the alley.
OOC just this once Xel...

Torque listened as 62 and Boomer pointed out the more out-of-place details regarding the dumpster. "A well-used storage for nefarious activity, or possibly an entrance to something underground?" he said. He slowly approached the dumpster. "Let's try to circumvent any surprises, shall we?" Torque carefully examined the dumpster to see if there was any impediment to opening it.

Shallow will sniff out the area, to determine what and where the scent was in contact with, as well as determine if another scent passed through this area, potentially belonging to another pony. He also sniffs the blood and dumpster and compares it with whatever scents might be in the alleyway. He isn't touching any of the stuff if he can avoid it.

You can not find any traps.

The sent that you are tracking appears to hace mingled with the sent of a second pony from the beginning of the alley. The original appears to have paused infront of the dumptser before turning around. The sent of the second pony matches the sent of the blood but the strong smell of the dumpster covers up what ever is in it. Additionally you can see that Shinestone appears to reconize this place but seems unsure.

Torque glanced over at Shinestone, who seemed a little uneasy. A sudden thought occurred to him. "Shinestone...you might not want to see this. I think...we might have found your body." Torque started to reach for the handle, stopped, reached into his satchel, pulled out a handkerchief (for cleaning grease stains), then used it to grab the handle of the dumpster as he opened it.

He be a pirate, so mite' not be da' first time he seen a dead pony, but yah' own body mite' be someting' hard ta' come ta' terms wit', if it be in dere'. And he mite' need ta' do it anyway, if he wants ta' help wit' revealin' da' truth of wat' truly happened ta' him. Yah' choice, bruddah."
- Perception:
Shallow compares the scent of the "other pony" with that of the ghost (if possible). He also goes out of the alley (leading the ghost along with him, if it so desires) and takes note of where/which direction the "other pony's" scent came from, and if it was accompanied (traveling with) the scent Shallow is tracking.
