Field lightly tuts. "At most there should be some manual controls and critical maintenance..."

Grease waddles towards whatever cover is nearest, still laughing uncontrollably. "This thing was designed to protect a reality bomb until Doomsday! Personal maintenance should not be an issue of manual work" he chokes out between giggles.

"Will you two concentrate?" Gearick asked with a sigh, as his his summons struck against the clockwork creatures being summoned against them. The fire golem's flame spreading out across them all, while the rest focused fire on the dragon. The warden slipped over to Gearick, and focused its healing magic onto him, the unicorn smirking as he took hold of the excess magic and shot it out at the dragon, the shockwave catching those nearest to it in its blast.

Stout Spirit was in a curious predicament.  He knew exactly what he held in his hoof, yet he had no clue what it was.  Its mysteries were obscured by the current tense situation.

And speaking of tense, the air around the dragon grew thick with a tangible dread of the end times.  The dragon let forth another titanic roar but this one was different from the others in that it wasn't heard with the ears but rather with the mind.  A bellow that could chill a pony to their very soul.  As its minions fell, the Clockwork Dragon belched a stream of dark lightning at our heroes.  In the places where they had healed or regenerated, the was a great pain...due to the lack thereof.  The lighting left a sort of numb emptiness where these parts of their bodies felt like they didn't exist with the surrounding body parts reacting to the numbness.

Grease giggled as the lightning passed through him, even as he felt the numbness set in. "I hope I kept some of that, I'd sure love to analyze it!" He said gleefully. His grin only falters a little as he hears Fields slump, wheels, and sees him doubled over and quietly twitching. "Tut tsk, that won't do. Arise, arbiter of souls! Your time at the head of hell's bargaining table has not yet ended!" He says, raising his arms and trying to make his tail look like it's flapping in the breeze. A wild line of lightning arcs into the sky like a rainbow, then crashes down on Professor Fields, wrapping around his body and encasing him for a solid 10 seconds before seeping in. Grease's manic grin turns to a look of surprise as his now-gray scales darken slightly, and the crackling noises around him momentarily fade. He snaps his claws a few times in an effort to get sparks moving again.

For a brief moment Hector felt lost. He could recall slamming into - or perhaps even through - something, which he decided afterwords must have been the dragon. His lightning charge had worn off; he wheeled back around in time to get struck by an all together different kind of thunder.

He felt suddenly numb. His wings were numb and his legs were numb and he could just make out what seemed to be a group of... somebody. It became quite clear to him that they must also be fighting the dragon; he managed to land nearby and in front, spreading his wings out menacingly towards the dragon...

Fields props himself back up chuckling slightly "You should have saved something for yourself... but there is no changing the past. Now be bound beast!" Once again rings shackle themselves into the clockwork dragon.

Hector wasn't sure how the dragon suddenly became shackled; although, it did stand to reason that some of his allies were probably magicians of various kinds.

He didn't mull over this. He forced his body into action, streaking towards the dragon and latched onto it's back with his claws...

With that final blow, the massive mechanical marvel lurched and contorted from its damage.  Briefly, the world went grey, only for a rainbow colored shockwave to erupt from the guardian, lighting up the sky with a mind melting array of visual splendor as the world returned to normal.  However, not all was sparkles and rainbows as the beast's lack of automation meant it was now suddenly falling out of the sky!  Is this the final fate of our fantastic heroes?  Tune in next time folks for more of the Equestrian Radio Show's Adventure Variety Hour!

Hector was stunned for a moment when caught in the rainbow blast. It came out of nowhere and flooded through him leaving an almost euphoric feeling behind as he realised he had been seeing in grey scale - but no more! But now was no time to celebrate. The dragon was falling. He unlatched himself from it's back, and looked back down at the three he had joined battle with. A unicorn, a baby dragon, and a minotaur.

He knew what needed done to the dragon - while it appeared to be more mechanical than flesh and bone, he had seen it fly and felt it's movements - it's flight power worked on precisely the same mechanism as his own, just on a larger scale. If someone could keep it's wings outstretched...

He flew down and landed gracefully nearby and addressed the peculiar trio. "We need to stop it from falling! I need you on the thing's back to keep it's wings stretched open! I can fly underneath and create updrafts to keep aloft until we get it somewhere safer! No time to argue!"

As his color returned, Grease's eyes went wide, and his grin went wider. "Excellent! I love arguing when there's no time for it! Wait. No time to argue. Nevermind. Fields, Gearick, help me get a feel for which gears fit into the wings!" He says as he clambers over to one wing, trying to follow the various gears that control it.

"Make it happen!" Hector shouted to be heard over the wind.

With that, he leapt into the air, flapping furiously to clear the edge of the monstrosity; and then folding his wings to fall into a sharp dive. Opening them up again, he slowed his descent until he was as near the ground as he dared. He swooped back up and began a wide spiral ascent - beneath the dragon, hoping it would be enough...

The young dragon was able to see that the multitude of pistons and gears that were once at work were now locked in place. While a lot of it followed basic mechanical principle in how the wings on such a thing should work, it had quirks and oddities as it didn't seem to run on electricity, nor was it steam powered. The base of each wing didn't even seem to truly connect to the body due to an abnormal gap separating them.

Meanwhile, their hippogriff ally who joined the fray produced a mighty updraft to aid the team's efforts. However, the mechanical dragon's size and current posture prevented it from slowing as much as the team intended.

"I think I've got it!" Grease shouts after inspecting the wing joint. He reaches into his gearkit and pulls out a mildly familiar oval disk. Electricity begins to arc between him and the disc, and he drops it, cursing, and jabs at his bowtie. With a sputter of smoke, the sparks fade from Grease's scales, and he returns to his normal uniform dark blue. He picks up the disc, carefully arcs lightning onto it, then places it near the wing joint. A spark passes between his eyebrows and he snatches up the disc, zapping it quickly, then carries it to the center of the dragon's back. He sets it down, and drops a single spark onto it. Spiked vines spring out of the disc, and two snake in each direction, precisely wrapping around different parts of a gear. Once they are firmly attached, aach pair of vines begins pushing, pressing the gear forward in its socket. Gearick watches from near the base disc, ready to make adjustments or move the disc as necessary.

A deafening metallic screech echoed through the air as the wings were forcibly moved into position. However, something akin to a crack could be heard on the left as the mechanical dragon started to veer off to the side.

Stomp sighs. " I have no idea what this is."

"Its a staff."

"No kidding." Stout sighed again. "I believe I may need consul from the other spirit. Tree, if you may?"

The two sit down, and meditate, seeking consul from the spirits beyond.

Professor Field at Hector where and how to apply the force from his weathercrafting. After a moment he then pulls out a book casting a spell aimed at the machine's wings intending to lower the overall mass of the machine my separating as much metal as possible although he is careful to make the pieces as small as safely possible to lessen the chances of damage.

As the dragon careened unsteady in the sky, Stout Spirit felt at ease as one of the great spirits spoke out to him.  One he had spoken with before called First Voice.

"It has been some time.

While you seek aid, perhaps your should aid be given.
I give to you, the forms of the beasts.
The beast you ride in is but an obstacle.
Obstacles can be surpassed with teamwork.
You team with worthy heroes.
Heroes that must bind together all of their gifts.
You found a gift that is long lost.
Never lose sight of the true magic within."

With the mysterious advice given, the voice fell silent and Stout Spirit awoke to see he felt different.  Despite this, he was still stuck inside a mechanical monstrosity hurtling through the sky! However, the team's efforts seemed to be helping steady the descent.

Stout awakens

"Tree, First Voice spoke to me."

Tree gasps "And what did he say?"

"Do you want the cryptic version or the attempted translation."

"The Translation please."

Stout Spirit gases at the staff 'That staff is somehow important, i believe. But we should probably focus on getting out of here, whatever here is, to the team we are important. First Voice alluded to it."

An idea then popped into Stouts head. "We need to contact the rest of the team."

"Shall i roar again?"

"Yes. let them know we need to communicate if possible. Then we need to look for a way out. I need to know the distance as well, just in case."

Tree then lets loose a cry, a cry letting the members of STOMP that Stout and Tree need to talk to the duo, as fast as possible.

Then the duo look for an exit.

Upon hearing Turquoise Tree's shout, Muse awakened from her fainting spell.  Partially wedged between two unmoving plates of the mechanical dragon, she gave a short shriek upon realizing the gravity of the situation.  Reaching out to the minds of the STOMP team, she relayed her thoughts. "Why are we falling out the sky?!?  And, um...I think I'm stuck."

'Well, this might be troublesome' Gearick thought to himself as the dragon began plunging down towards the earth. He had to recover from his injures of the fight, as well as dismiss his summons, so he was a little slow to react compared to the others. By the time Muse spoke however, he shook himself, and answered. 'We can fill you in later Muse, as it is, do you think you could ask the aplaca - Stout Spirit I believe? - what exactly he did inside the dragon please?' With that message said, the unicorn reached his magical sense in towards the dragon. It had ben defeated, but Gearick knew something as old and powerful as this dragon would be unlikely to lose every bit of his magical energy upon its defeat, and it was for these remnants Gearick searched for.

The age and complexity made it quite difficult for Gearick to discern any specifics about the ancient monstrosity.  It seemed to be an innately magical construct with it's focal point somewhere near the center. Meanwhile, Muse responded to Gearick's request. "Everyone's connected so he should have heard you.  He's...about three meters behind you and ten meters below.  And um, isn't he a buffalo?"
