One of the healers says, "From what we gather, they were attacked by some kind of monster that spread a poisonous fog all over the place. Half of their squad didn't make it back."

"Yet more of hooded baby men. I trust not creature who hides face behind veil. Where I am from, men covered up for warmth, not hell of it. Tell me creature, why does species hide face? Is ugly? Is sacred? What is deal?"

"Nah, don't do that," Aparix said, all smiles. "Far too obvious."

"A monster? A being of the blight?" Paladin asked, not knowing of any monsters that where not members of the blight, but at the same time he knew he didn't know everything about this word.

The Lokira looks over at Zakhar and then lowers the cloth covering her face, just enough to take a long drink of her spirits, newly served by the bartender. "Just the way things are. My dad says he came from a desert place... robes were for protection from the sun." Another long drink, this one emptying the mug. "Now they're jus' fashionable..." She looks over Aparix and his smile, and smiles in return.
...
The healer shrugs. "Most likely. Haven't heard of any creatures like that around here before, and haven't heard of anything with those sort of powers that wasn't Blighted."

"I see..." Paladin said, giving his chin a scratch in thought. "If its caused by the blight, there might be traces of it in them... I could purge it, or try to use them to guide me to better heal them... but its more risky."

Re: The Hordes of the Blight - The Adventure
Mitsuna stretched in her bed. She had slept in much later than normal; but then, she had stayed up much longer than normal too wondering the nearby woods, as Therians are often inclined to do. The bed was regrettably all hers that night, and she felt a little chilled. She pulled the blanket around her in a sort of cloak over her night gown. She mentally commanded the gown to thicken and lengthen into her full day-robe. The robe was a marvelous gift from her mentor before they parted ways; modern Rune magic allowed it to change size, shape, color, and thickness according to what the wearer desired, very helpful for the Veils Noxa granted. Not to mention her own, natural transformations. She elected to take a Human shape today. No need for a Veil, her natural Human would suffice. This form proved to be about five and a half feet (shorter than her default) with pale skin, and long dark hair. She put the blanket back on the bed, spreading it neatly before going downstairs.
She elected to simply sit in the corner when she saw there were several others already present. She had already gained the keeper's good opinions, though she had not deigned to come close as he had hinted she might. Luckily he had not taken offense. She glanced towards him imploringly when she caught his eye; he already knew full well she'd be hungered this morning, or else she would need to find better lodging, among her kin in the forest perhaps (if she could find them, which she didn't doubt.) She also took stock of the others sitting around, careful not to make eye-contact with anyone else...

The healer scratches his chin. "Well, they're stable for the moment, so don't try anything that'll make them worse. If the Blight has infected them, we'll hopefully be able to spot it before it takes full hold."
...
The barkeep glanced at the new arrival before going off into the back room for a brief moment. He returned quickly, followed at length by a barmaid carrying a plate filled with meat, eggs, and a bit of fruit. She set the plate on the bar before the newcommer before retreating into the back room. The barkeep said, "Sleep well?" It was, after all, midday.

"Scanning for, and removing traces of the blight is something that has had any risk so far." Paladin said as he stepped over to the guards and closed his eyes. "Anything else is risky, except giving their natural healing ability a boost." Paladin focused his abilities, using his Gift and Ki in conjunction to do a scan of the guards, primarily for any traces of the blight

"Hmm, I suppose," she admitted. She took the plate gratefully and almost started eating; she stopped briefly as some of the other patrons came into her attention.
"Could you tell me who some of these people are? I don't think I recognise them," she asked in a quiet whisper so as not to be overheard.

Aparix may not have meant it quite like that, but he liked this gal's attitude nonetheless. "So what's your name, eh?"
He seems not to notice the new girl.

"Well," the barkeep says quietly, "There's some new folks in town - a caravan and their escort. From what I've heard, they're pretty terrific fighters." He glances over at the party.

- You notice that there is a human talking quietly with the barkeep.
The Lokira says, "Lorez is the name." She takes another swig from the mug, though whether there's any actually left in there is unclear. "I'm one of the town guard. Official battlemage and all. Hey!" She shouts towards the barkeep. "Another round!"
The barkeep stops his conversation with the new girl. "Haven't you had enough?"
"Bleh!" is her only response.

At the guard with the slash wound, Paladin turned back to the others. "This one has traces of the blight, very light traces though and I'm sure you know how to reverse blight infection." Paladin could attempt to heal the blight by himself, but his Ki and Gift was not unlimited and he had been using a lot of it other the last two days with all the fighting and healing he had been doing... he need to rest and meditate for the battle that was to come

"Evidently not," she smiled in amusement.
A caravan guard, hm? she thought inwardly. That would imply that they tend to go places. Perhaps they'll take me with me, she speculated as she got up. Between the two Lokira and the human, she picked the human as most malleable without shifting form again. She took her plate and moved to sit next to him. ((Referring to Zachar.))
"Say, you look like quite the monster hunter. What sort of monsters did you fight to get here?" She asked, inviting him to try and impress her.

Zakhar continues to drink without looking at her. He pauses for a moment. Then, still looking at his drink he says "Tell me girl, you like stories?"

Re: The Hordes of the Blight - The Adventure
Mitsuna chewed on her eggs as she contemplated the question. She inferred that he intended to tell a fairly serious sort of story; not quite the direction she needed to go.
"Not over breakfast, I'm afraid," she answered once she swallowed. "But I do like traveling companions, considering the Blight. And I grow weary of this desolate place," She sighed heavily. "Most people see a Channeler and expect me to magically fix all of their problems, but I just can't."
It was true, too. The hospital healers had approached her more than once, and each time she had to tell them politely that no, she only knew some rudimentary healing, the things everybody knew; keep that cut clean, put some blankets on that fever, chicken soup for colds, etcetera. And the village guards would not accept her help against the monster attacks, for no other reason than because she was a woman! She had been sorely tempted to Veil herself as a man, but no; she had promised herself that she would only do that if she absolutely had to, and this did not qualify.
"One would presume you intend to move on to another town of some sort? Surely you wouldn't be apposed to the accompaniment of a fine lady such as myself."

Re: The Hordes of the Blight - The Adventure
Mitsuna nodded sagely at Zachar's (apparent) wisdom. 'Wisdom can come from anywhere' her mentor and parents had both taught.
One of the Lokira spoke up. "How much coin are you packing, miss? I might just be interested in a wager 'tween us two."
She sized him up as she finished the eggs and started to nibble on the fruit. He looked like a sneaky sort, the kind one kept an eye on. She wondered what the peculiar contraption he carried was; most likely a weapon of some kind.
"That depends on the wager, I suppose," she said dryly. "Although I haven't got coin for such a thing. Although.... I'm fairly certain I could make it up in... other ways." She smiled in a rather crooked way. She had already decided to let on to her shapeshifting abilities, if not here and now. She could make good on that, certainly.

Re: The Hordes of the Blight - The Adventure
Mitsuna'a heart skipped a beat at the words "nice hat". He wasn't referring to her usage of Noxa's Veil was he?! Could he tell she was a shape shifter.
No, she reasoned as she calmed herself. Externally her momentary panic was nearly imperceptable; internally she was nearly frightened out of her wits. He must mean his Lokira friend, she concluded. Besides, he can't see through my Veil, I'm not even wearing it. Although I suppose he might have assumed I had one... She promptly began to feel uncomfortable again. This Lokira character had her on edge, probably unintentionally; but nevertheless. She did her best to conceal this as she finished her meal...

"Do not let baby man scare you, but do not take his offer. He is shifty one. I do not trust him beyond capabilities in battle. He is not of sort I like, has too many secrets. I think all little baby men are shifty. They hide faces behind cloaks. My father gave me sage advice. Never trust man who won't show you his face."

Before answering, Aparix slams his palm (gently, please) upon the bar, obtaining another shot of whiskey for himself. A quick down later and a gentle "Ah..." and he turns to his compatriot. "Drinking contest. Winner gets whatever's in the loser's coin purse."
