Heart freezes on the step. She tries to give him a cold look, but it really only manages to look shy and embarrassed. Flipping her mane out of her face, she responds, "Yeah, well... you wouldn't be interested. It's not especially good, I just write it to feel better."

He watched as she flipped her mane again. "Uh, well, you might be surprised, I might like it. But if you don't want me to read it, I won't. I'd really like to, though." He smiled. There was a faint feeling in his stomach that he had a sneaking suspicion was... a crush.

Wormwood nods, even though she's facing forward, and follows her. "I understand." Maybe someday, he thinks. For now, I need to figure out what to do about this crush... I can't tell her, not yet, she'll think I'm a creep... and maybe I am...

"So, what do you want to do to pass the time until the princesses call for us? Shouldn't be long now..."

Heart gets to the top of the stairs, and then waits for him. She doesn't have an answer, so she keeps quiet and walks with him towards the room. When they get to the door, she stops. She looks around, sighs, and pushes him in. Shutting it behind her. She only glances at him, making eye contact once before lowering her eyes to the floor again, and then shutting them. "Third time, third strike..." She begins, "Third hand marks the seconds and the third wheel crashes. Three times I turn and try to take it back and take it away. Three strokes of a brush, three slashes of a knife. Three cannot give me... but I cannot get a fourth."

Wormwood is silent for a long moment as she speaks. "I... I don't know what to say. That's... pretty good." He nods. To be honest, it was a little incomprehensible, but he heard true art was like that. "I... I confess I don't know enough about you to guess it's deeper meaning. But... I like it. He smiles.

"Thanks..." She walks past him to the bed and lays down on it. "I... you can read them, if you want. But not the last two." She offers him the book as she stares up at the ceiling.

Wormwood smiles and takes the book, getting up on the bed opposite her and setting the book down, flipping open the book to its first page. "All but the last two, got it." He doesn't inquire as to why, but he hopes to gain a deeper understanding of her through her poetry all the same.

Heart barely moves as Wormwood reads, laying in silence, staring at nothing. Despite the churning in her stomach, at some point her eyes close, and she dozes off.

At last Wormwood reaches the forbidden poem. He pauses for a moment, then looks up at her, finding her asleep. Thoughts of reading the last two poems flits through his mind, but he puts them aside. He knows that, if she asked, he wouldn't be able to look her in the eye and tell her he hadn't read them. So instead he lets her sleep, and re-reads some of the better-written poems.

But at last, curiosity overcomes him. He checks one last time to see if she's asleep, then flips the page to the second-to-last poem and reads as quickly as he can before flipping the page back.

Cold nods as his tummy grumbles too... Kinda funny that I both ended up in the wrong side of the tent, and the chaotic one is nearby, yet I didn't end up biologically female... He thinks to himself as the Ninjataur leads The Reini to the breakfast nook of this tent.

Life is over when it starts again. A heart? A heart beats against the cold, a beacon in the fog. A heart concealed within the wormy wood, a heart that must be found. Should it be found? No one can see it, no one can know it’s there, can it be sought out? Do the monsters care, do they run at the sound of its drum beat? Do the cold dark talons release their grip, do the demons abate? Wormwood blushes a little at the implications of the poem. He tries his best to get that under control, partially regretting he'd read the poem. This was something special, meant to be shared when the time was right, so he doesn't read the last poem. In the meantime, he watches the sleeping Bleeding Heart, trying to scrutinize her, and scrutinize his own feelings for her...

Wormwood smiles and thinks for a moment. "Well... it's hard to sum up my past. My parents used to say I was a pretty bright kid, and I did pretty well in school... when I didn't have homework. I always liked being outside with nature more than doing schoolwork." His smile faded. "And then I got into college and I just... collapsed. I never was able to keep up. I never had many friends, either, because I was too shy... never had much success in romance, either." He trailed off. "I mean, there was this one filly I was with, but..." His face scrunched up as he recalled the details.
