This world has always known magic. Since the first creatures of sentience walked the planet it has been used in every way imaginable.  Whether it be archaic, spiritual, or divine, magic has had many forms. In fact there was one instance when its inner workings were almost unraveled. At the time it was called science. But do not think that magic is just some kind of energy that can be tapped into. No, it’s alive and it has evolved during its existence. As you can see for yourself the magic of today can manipulate even the cosmos. But there are some aspects of it that have never changed. One particular strain of magic found a way to preserve itself, by living in the higher planes of the subconscious realm. It is a powerful magic that has created a very real name for itself over the millennia. Whether it inflicts torcher, mercy, or bestows judgment, no being who has encountered it has ever truly escaped.

“I do not think I will ever understand your, how do they say, ‘randomness’ Discord. As interesting as a history of magic sounds this is neither the time nor the place for one.”
The draconequus wore a hurt expression. “My dear princess Luna, you surprise me. Your academic thirst rivals that of princess purple smart herself.”
Luna looked at Discord with a small frown.
"Thou are not amused,” he asked arching an eyebrow. They continued down the dirt path until they came across a very wet road. She gave him a small huff and marched across to the other side immediately noticing something odd about this road. It was black and very firm and it had strange yellow things in the center that stretched out in both directions.  
As Luna bent down to get a closer look at the raised yellow squares, Discord walked over to the guard rail. He looked out towards the forest and squinted a few times to make sure he was seeing things properly.
“That shouldn't be there,” he said in a voice far too serious for his character. Luna sat down next to him and stared at the huge lake with wide eyes. There were a few small tufts of land in the middle and on the fare shore she could see lights.
“That was not there the last time I was here,” she said quietly. Discord turned and started walking down the road. Luna followed.
“Discord, why did that lake suddenly appear? For that matter where did this road come from, or this mountainside,” she waved a hoof at the other side of the road. “What’s going on?”
Discord continued to walk seemingly lost in thought. She continued following him waiting for a response. Finally he stopped and glanced back to look at her.
“If my theory is correct my dear, then we're in big trouble. And not just you and I, but everything, all that has been and all that could be will go down this very rusty and rotted drain.”
Now she was really confused, “all that just because a lake decided to appear in this world?”
Discord rubbed his temples and continued walking, Luna followed.
“You don’t understand. That lake hasn’t been a part of this world since…” he thought for a moment, “a very long time ago.”  He grew quiet again, thinking.
"It is strange," Luna said. “This place, it does not feel the same as before.”
“How so, “Discord asked curiously.
“The first time I was here was not of my own choice. It was … terrible,” she shuddered slightly. “Now that I have voluntarily returned it feels like,” she thought for a minute.
“It feels like sneaking into a movie studio for some behind the scenes action,’ he finished for her.
“Exactly,” she nodded.
It started to rain.
“Well that came out of nowhere,” Discord said shielding his face with a paw. He snapped his fingers.  When nothing happened Luna smirked.  He snapped them again and again nothing happened. Luna chucked as he continued snapping his fingers growing more frustrated as he did so. Her horn glowed and a blue dome appeared over their heads.
“Discord you are an astral form of yourself, you cannot do magic here.”
He looked very put out.
“Well excuse me for wanting to stay dry. I'm am glad you can use your magic though.”
They continued walking in silence listening to the rain increase and decrease in intensity.
Luna looked at Discord, “Yes?”
He jumped, “What?”
“Did you say something,” she asked.
He shook his head, “no.”
She returned her focus to the road ahead, “oh, ok.” The rain slowed to a drizzle as they walked quietly. Suddenly Luna saw something run across the road.
“What was that?” Discord jumped about a foot in the air, “would you please stop that you’re going to give me a heart attack.”  
“Sorry.” She pointed her hoof, “I thought I saw something.”
Discord’s eyes narrowed.
“We need to hurry,” he looked back at her. “I think we’ve just been spotted, and if that’s the case then we need to act fa-"
-Clang!
Discord turned, smacking face first into a huge metal box.
“Ouch,” he muttered rubbing his nose, “now I know that wasn't there a second ago!”
Luna looked at the box curiously. She noticed the wheels. It looked like some kind of vehicle. The front half was different, not so box shaped. Looking closer she saw a door.
“I think it is some sort of transportation device,” she said to Discord who was still rubbing his face.
She found what looked to be a door latch and after failing to squeeze her hoof into it she resorted to magic. Locked, typical. A breeze brushed past her mane. She heard a faint whisper.
“Discord did you hear that?”
He popped out from around the other side of the vehicle. “No, what did it sound like?”  
She strained her ears hearing it again, “it sounds like someone whispering a name.”
He was about to say something when he heard a noise behind him. He turned just in time to see a road sign fall out of the bushes. As he walked over to it he heard Luna ask “who is this Travis?” he bent down picked it up and froze.
“No,” he said in alarm.
“What! What’s wrong,” Luna hurried over to him.
He stared at the sign dumbfounded. “It’s not supposed to say that. I mean it’s not supposed to say that anymore.”
She peered past his arm at the sign. It read
Silent Hill
She watched as the sign started to rust away before there eyes. Then they heard it. Two pairs of pupils turned to pinpricks as the sound of a siren became louder. Discord dropped the sign and grabbed the closest alicorn in the area.
“Luna,” he shouted “get us out of here!”
She raised her hoof and slammed it down with a sound like a cathedral bell. There was a rush of wind a blue flash and a pop. They were gone.
The siren died down in the distance. But if you listened closely you could hear the sounds of something big, heavy, and metal being dragged across the ground and a soft whisper saying “Travis” over and over again.

Celestia sipped her tea calmly while reading the newspaper. There was a rush of wind and a pop signaling the return of her sister. She glanced up, "so how did it go? Was your investigation a suc- Discord! What are you doing here." He started to explain but Luna cut him off. "I could not locate the disturbance on my own so I asked him for help." Celestia cocked an eyebrow as Luna continued. "But we have a big problem. The realm it's moving freely forward and backward in its own timeline."  Celestia choked on her tea, "but that would cause any realm to rip itself apart!" Discord, having been sitting on his tail this whole time decided now would be a good time to jump in. "Yes! And without that realm to collect and contain sickness and evil the whole of reality would fall out of balance. That is a kind of chaos that even I would like to avoid." Celestia stood up an levitated a quill and ink, and some paper to her table. "I shall write to the bearers at once. Twilight and her friends will- hey." Discord snapped his fingers turning the quill and paper into a banana leaf and a daisy. "I don't believe the elements of harmony are the proper tools for this one. Considering the trauma this place has caused you, Twilight, and her friends in the past. I don't think it is a good idea to throw them back in so quickly. I literally had to change the destiny of a parallel universe in order to get Spike back." Celestia cringed a bit at that. "So what do you suggest we do then?" Discord thought for a moment. "The way I see it, the origin of the problem is coming from the realm itself. So that means we are going to need someone to go there and fix it. Unfortunately..." He holds up a hand to prevent Luna from interrupting him, "neither of you will be able to go." "And why is that?" Luna asked indignantly. Discord chuckled, "because you two will need to stay here and defend equestria from anything that leaks out." Now it was Luna's turn to raise an eyebrow. "How would anything leak out? That realm exists on the astral plane. Nothing there can physically exist here." Discord shook his head. "That's only half right. I have been watching that place for a very long time. At one point it manifested itself in the physical world and since then it has had physical properties. It is very likely that as the situation gets worse it will try to manifest here in the physical realm. What we need to do is gather a team that can go there, find the problem and reverse it." Celestia nodded her head. "That makes sense, but how would you go about gathering a team without causing a panic?" Discord snapped his fingers and a poster appeared in front of him. "Easy. With this. " the poster read (Attention! The princes Celestia is currently seeking volunteers for a dangerous expedition into unknown territory. If you would like to join this venture please send a letter containing your personal information, skills and background to canterlot castle.) "I just put these up in every town and city in Equestria, we wait a few days and bam, we have our team." Celestia sighed, "alright Discord, you seem to know what's going on a lot better than we do. Assemble your team. We will meet back here when you are finished." Discord grinned, snapped his finger and disappeared.

Celestia and Luna entered the throne room. “Alright Discord, you said you were ready to begin. That you had assembled a team.” Celestia scanned the room. “So where are they?”

Discord chuckled. “Oh good you made it. Now I know it’s not my style but the situation demands that I get right to business.”  He snapped his fingers and a pile of books appeared behind him. “First I will explain the situation as of now. When Luna and I went to the Silent realm it was only starting to break down. Now I’m afraid that matters there have degraded far past the point where it is safe to travel to it on the subconscious plane.”

Luna raised a hoof to interject but Discord held up his paw. “Wait I’m not done yet. Not only are the nightmares you Twilight and her friends encountered running amuck, nightmares form the past and others are also starting to appear.”

Celestia raised an eyebrow. “Others, what do you mean others?”

Discord sighed, “Other dimensions, parallel worlds. I’m sure you know how that works.”

Celestia and Luna both nodded once.

“Good, now the bottom line is that realm is both regressing and progressing in its own timeline and reality. This is causing it to fracture. Those fractures, if gone unchecked threaten all of time and space. Kind of like when a TARDIS explodes.”

“A what?”

“Nothing, never mind.”

“So how do we fix it?”

“That is the next part of my explanation. As I said before, I have assembled four individuals. It is their job to go to the Silent realm and fix it from there. I have a contact on the inside that played a pivotal role in saving the realm the last time this happened.”

“This has happened before?!”

“Yes, back when the realm was somewhat young. There wasn’t much there to cause a threat to the rest of creation at the time. But the multiverse was aware of what was going on, whether the events were directly known or it was channeled into some sort of entertainment. I like to call that time a Silent Hill Revelation.”

“What are those books for?”

“I’m glad you asked. These books contain a record of what happen to you, Twilight, and her friends in regards to the mind delve spell.  They also contain events that transpired in a few alternate worlds. Now I have sent copies of these books to each of the four individuals with the strict rule that nothing from those books be shared with anyone outside of each other, including you two.”

“How do you know they will adhere to that demand?”

“They Pinkie promised.”

“Oh” “Oh”

“Once this discussion is over I will send a transcription of it to them as well, in order to keep them fully up to date. Now, on to the preparations. In order for the four of them to travel to the Silent realm physically, I’m going to have to tear open one of the fractures that has appeared in our world. Unfortunately that does not mean it will be a one way travel hole. The second they enter that world the monsters will enter ours.”

“And how do you suggest we combat them? I’ve seen what atrocities lay in that place and I don’t  know if it can be fought off so easily.”

“As it so happens I also have a battle plan for our side as well. First things first, you need to send the EUP Guard to every major city in Equestria, especially Ponyville. Next, we need to ask the help of Queen Gachile and her hive.”

“Changelings, why would we ask the help of such scum?!”

“Calm yourself sister. Queen Gachile is a friend, a very old friend. All right Discord, you seem to have everything under control. But tell me this, how do you know so much about the Silent realm without Luna taking you there?”

Discord snapped his fingers and a book appeared in his hand. “With my book of dimensions. It lets me see glimpses of other worlds. How do you think I was aware of the problem in the first place?”

“I-I thought you could just sense it.”

“My dear Celestia, that would be too easy. You should know me better than that.”

“All right then, I will deploy the guard and send word to the Queen.”

“My night guard will also assist in these endeavors.”

“Now where is this crack you were speaking of?”

“It’s in a cave at the bottom of Galloping Gorge. The four I’ve recruited will meet us there.”

“Then we should waist no more time. The peace and safety of Equestria must be protected!”

“I will see you at the Gorge.”
Discord snapped his fingers and disappeared.

I have not been around long enough to recognize any reused characters, so feel free to reuse any character that you want.

Looking for character that aren't headstrong and won't deliberately dive head first into situations. Other than that go crazy. The game won't start till all the character slots are full so go ahead and make new ones if you want or reuse one. The setting doesn't demand anything specific. Also if you want to do the questionnaire feel free, it could help a lot. You can also do a self insert if you want to, just pretend that you a denizen of Equestria and you have no prior knowledge of the Silent Hill universe.

ok, because of the new system becoming available but this campaign requires elements from the old system, I have spliced together the best features from both. these features are the ones that will fit into this campaign the best.
