"It's what they call the empty warehouses downtown. Not that much science happens down there. Not the above-board kind, at least."
- OOC:
- It seemed like a phrase Ash would've encountered before so I took the liberty of explaining.

Re: The League [IC]
"We do have a precise location, the..." Agent Anthony pulled up a hologram "the 'Super Filling' casual dine in restaurant. Tends to be fans and enthusiasts as opposed to regular crime fighters but sometimes the best place to hide is in plain sight. As far as the Science District, there has been a lot blight and malcontents in the past but the city has been trying to clean it up and get more reputable organizations to move in. Of course, you'll be able to see if the city has done a good job or not when you arrive. If there's no more questions, I'd like for you to leave out as soon as possible. Your communicators will have a short range link to your partner and long range emergency beacons back to base."
- OOC:
- I have no clue if that's a real restaurant name. I really hope it isn't but I'm rolling with it even if it is.

Re: The League [IC]
In Atlanta? No such place. Anywhere else? Could be, but I doubt it matters too much.
"I've been there. One teammate of mine used to love going there undercover, watch all the fanboys geeking out over different teams and heroes. I didn't really find it that enjoyable, myself. Good steak though." Phoenix stands up to go, but waits for any last instruction or information from Anthony.

Re: The League [IC]
As the two groups split up for their patrols, Ash and Yuri found themselves at the entrance to the Science District. The attempts to clean it up were immediately visible as the sidewalk on the way in was scrubbed clean to the point of practically being sterile, there was a bright neon sign with a kite and key representing Benjamin Franklin's discovery, and many of the warehouses had fresh coats of paint. In other ways, it reeked of the worst parts of urban renewal. Many of those painted buildings used a poor grade of paint that was already chipping, many buildings were still grimy, bright signage failed to hide how few street lights there were, and the setting sun gave a sense of foreboding.
Super Filling was particularly lively. The restaurant walls were predominantly a warms shade of white that was accented by a bold, primary red and sillhouette images of costumed heroes. A few costumed folks mingled among the various tables along with non-costumed patrons. Behind the register was a dark skined man in a thin white domino mask. Nodding to Iron Maiden and Phoenix as they entered, he smiled and said, "For wearing your costume, you get a 5% discount. How may I help you today?"

"You know, some super heroes don't wear spandex. You give discounts to people that come in dressed in regular street clothes, too?"

"Only if they're well known or come in with another hero. A lot of it has to do with keeping up the theme. However, we DO give discounts to civil servants like police, fire, medic and we also give the discount to the military. It's just that if we gave discounts to everyone who walked in with a snarl and a leather jacket, we might as well not have the discount, you know? Capes keeps it kinda level headed. I think there's only ever been one robbery attempt despite this not being the highest end part of town. Besides, even the spandex types tend to not wear literal spandex anymore as your teammate here shows."

Re: The League [IC]
"Hard to say. Never felt good about all this neon crap. Easy to forget 'Science District' isn't just an ironic nickname these days." Ash takes a few steps down the street and casts her gaze across the warehouses, searching for telltale signs of security. "But I bet it's still not so different underneath. We should start with the place that looks hardest to break into--always worth knowing who's making themselves a target. After that we find the warehouses with just enough security to stay inconspicuous, and chances are whatever we're looking for is in one of them."

Re: The League [IC]
Yuri regards Ash with a curious sort of admiration. "That's quite a game to play. People really go in for it?" Knowing he doesn't stand a chance at finding subtle security systems, Yuri looks around, staying close to Ash and trying to find things that could fit into a security system: Electronics boxes that don't seem to connect to anything, wire lines trailing away from doors and windows...
It was good, he reflected, that neither he nor Ash looked remotely like superheroes. Not that looked particularly normal, either, but what even was normal in a place like this?

Farce, you should probably add one as well. Zamuel is a very particular DM, and even with a high roll like this, I don't know what I'm looking for. Ash is much more likely to get useful information out of a perception check.

"Comes with the territory. Everybody wants to keep on top of what the other guy's doing, 'specially when you're getting into shady super-science." Ash focuses her attentions on a couple of warehouses she knows tend to attract high-value targets, looking for conspicuously placed crates, out-of-place civilians, signs of recent renovations, anything that might call attention to itself by its presence or absence.

Re: The League [IC]
Quietly looking at the various buildings, Yuri noticed a warehouse with a particularly dull and untouched exterior. However, it had five different generator cables running into it. One of the generators was giving off a green glow that cast sickening shadows. Meanwhile, Ash spots the most "popular" warehouse on the lot. It had built up a reputation for having the most police busts in the city...yet low end villains kept trying to use it. It now had a fresh coat of paint that was a stark glossy white instead of the typical satin or eggshell finish. It also had three deadbolts on the door.

Re: The League [IC]
Ash points out the warehouse. "That one's always a big target. S'in a good spot, solidly built, soundproofed, interior's surprisingly defensible. Should be the perfect place to get down to some evil science, which is why it's not. The cops especially love it, 'cause it's always occupied by some low-rate rookie without the firepower to scare them off or the clout to buy them off. Makes for a good show whenever folks want proof they're cleaning things up. She looks over the new paint job, contemplating what it might mean. "The paint's new. It's not too grimed up, and all the bullet holes are underneath, so whoever put it up is probably still in. And anybody moving into the trap warehouse and giving it glossy new paint's got as much ambition as they don't got sense--the kind of wanna-be who might be looking to build their new empire on the back of some super-soldiers. Or some up-and-comer with a bright idea that's gonna blow up in their face or get jacked by someone way more dangerous. Either way it's worth looking into."

Re: The League [IC]
Yuri coughs quietly, before speaking even more softly than normal. "That is all...very good to know. But that building across the street has enough power running into it to light up half of St. Petersburg. However, I think there is a more pressing matter at hand. What do we do if we encounter Staticaster? I think we saw at the bank that it will take all four of us to deal with her."

Iron Maiden groaned inside. While this is all very interesting, we aren't just here for inexpensive food. We're looking for some information.

"BUT, we should get some inexpensive food while we're here." Phonix remarks casually as he takes a better look around at the other patrons of the restaurant. "I may have incidentally skipped lunch earlier, for reasons."
Reasons being that he was busy venting over the previous failure.
Perception for more details of interest, and any familiar faces present among the restaurant faces.

Re: The League [IC]
"Glad to help any heroes in need. What were you needing info on?" As the cashier spoke with Iron Maiden, Phoenix spotted a man in a rather garish cobra hood--the Plaid Viper. A Z-List "villain" who rented out his appearance for up and coming heroes to defeat and would sometimes run public self defense classes. He was signing autographs for a guy in an obviously fake Avenger costume. Nearby was a guy in a black leather jacket levitating a soda to the amazement of several women fawning over him. He was either a nobody or someone who hadn't yet made a name for himself yet.

Re: The League [IC]
Ash shrugs. "I wouldn't worry too much about ol' lightning bug. Even if we run into her, she doesn't have to know we're here. And if she does, we don't need to give her the chance to do something about it. And if we get pulled into a fight we can't win, that just means we don't have to win. There's other ways to come out on top." Ash looks to the building Yuri indicated. "Anyway, you're right about that warehouse. That's the kind of setup you have when you're too big to be discrete, but you know the game enough to at least play lip service. A big ol' generator shooting out eerie green light, that's basically a challenge, the kind where anybody who takes you up on it is either too stupid to be a concern or too good to keep out."

Re: The League [IC]
"Hopefully we're the latter." Yuri comments drily. It occurs to him that they really shouldn't be standing in the middle of the street, so he puts one arm around Ash's shoulders and starts walking forward. "So how do we get in?"

Phoenix sees Plaid Viper but pays him no mind. He had only seen him once, and not up close, but know who he is. The other guy... Phoenix silently note where he is, intending to keep an eye on him while they're there. "I do actually plan on eating something, though, so can we get a table first?"

Re: The League [IC]
Ash ducks out from Yuri's shoulder and walks ahead of him. "A dumpy place like this isn't gonna have a whole lot of anything, architecturally speaking, including possible entry points. We'll have to figure out if there's any kind of ventilation, a roof entrance, whatever." Ash continues forward, looking over all the warehouses in the area, making no attempt to hide her scrutiny."I'm sure everybody with eyes on the ground knows we're sizing the place up, but there's always people sizing the place up. What they can't be sure is that we've got our eyes on anywhere in particular, so we'll make a show of doing the rounds, check out the rest of the block, and I'll slip away while we're looking, double back and case the target quiet-like."

- Super Filling OOC:
- Saying someone is there but giving permission on the player side to world build. While there's big names in the OOC thread and there's powers at play that haven't revealed themselves yet, this allows things to be filled out in the middle since this is a world of superheroes.
Iron Maiden didn't notice anything strange or out of the ordinary in her cursory glance. She spotted the Plaid Viper and remembered hearing about him showing up at a birthday party last week.
There was a brief power surge that flickered all the lights around all of the Science District but they quickly went back to normal. Or as "normal" as such a place could ever inspire to be.
- Science District OOC:
- Roll Presence for masking your actions as you circle the grounds. Also, describe how you go about it. Ash specifically has to make a Stealth roll as she leaves and sneaks back.

The server nodded at Phoenix's request and pulled out two menus. Iron Maiden and Phoenix were escorted to a booth near the window which had a good view of both the parking lot and the rest of the restaurant. "To start you off, what would you like to drink? If you already know what you want, I can get you started on your order."

Re: The League [IC]
"That's about as surprising as it is encouraging," Ash mutters. She stands in place for a few moments, waiting to see if there would be any immediate fallout from the power surge. Once she's satisfied that nothing big is going to happen, she sinks her hands into her pockets and feigns trying to be discreet. She strolls down the sidewalk, passing the building with the eerie green generator, and casts a glance at a warehouse across the street. "Hmm. Occupied again. Probably another robotics nut, if history is any indication."
