However, we are not on his turf, where all of the daimyo's guards and subjects could turn against us. He has his sword and his retinue, but nobody else...and we don't need to run from him anymore."

Alma responds.... kind of. She doesn't move, or make any indication that she plans on moving. She sits in the sand, eyes clenched shut, tears streaming, and mumbles her response. It's impossible to hear all of it but some gets through. "No... c-can't... not about that... not a-about them... just... please, no..."

Abject terror and crippling despair.

It only takes a few more minutes for Thornhill and his men to reach the caravan. When they do, it's clear he brought over a dozen men with him. After the group stops about 30 feet away, he leads his raptor a little farther forward and loudly declares, "I see you've finally stopped running Terai! Hand over the Thri-Kreen girl and I'll let you and your companions live!" After he's done, he finally spots Alma and gives her a nasty smirk.

"...So, how does it feel, Thornhill?" Skaimos said, standing up, deliberately dropping the honorific. "Knowing that your charge was taken away at a party in front of hundreds of witnesses? By amateurs, no less. Doesn't say much for Togaru-sama's finest. Now, if Li-san were the one sent after us, I could at least respect that he was just doing his duty. But you...you're just a bully in a cushy position. No, we will not be surrendering to you. Now, if you were smart, you'd turn around and leave, but...well, that's assuming too much of your intelligence."

Thornhill lets out a growl and replies, "I was hoping that you'd ask for your deaths." Then he turns to look at Smithe and his men as well and Thag and Uhiya and says, "You of the caravaan, I suggest you back off now and leave the girl behind. I doubt these criminal skum let you in on their scheme and this isn't your fight. Just-" at which point he's cut off as Uhiya, in a motion that would look almost lazy if it weren't so fast, slings her sword off of her back and tosses it at the man nearest to Thornhill and it just stabs him right through the chest as Thornhill and all his men turn to stare at it for a moment. Then she makes a motion as if she's pulling the sword out and it does pull out of the man's body and then reappears in her hand. Thornhill roars loudly and charges forward, with his men quickly following behind.

Roll Initiative, Select your Combat Talents for the fight, list your combat traits, and those of you with items should list those as well.

Alma manages to open her eyes, and watches as her allies prepare to fight. She feels helpless; she can't bring herself to move to help them. But she watches, and waits, and her fear grows, but so does her anger. She glares at Thornhill, waiting, watching, learning.

Both the Pixie and her Fiery Companion Cube attack Thornhill... Not sure of what pain he had caused Alma, but that fact alone that pain was caused was enough to attack.

The Archer sees its counterpart (Cyrta) throw some flames at his boss and thinks he can show the pixie up and takes aim to hit the flittering target (minor action) and lets loose an arrow.... only to have the shot blocked by a cube of fire that moved into the way.

Meanwhile the Crossbowman wants to improve his reputation and shoots for Skaimos after lining up his shot (minor).

Companion Cube used Defender according to Xel's wishes.

Cube takes 5 damage and Ongoing 2 damage (save ends).

Skaimos takes 4 damage and Ongoing 2 damage (save ends).

Tethe brings her spear to a ready position and begins to focus her energies again, drawing them inwards this time instead of letting them radiate outwards. Her muscles tensing as magic runs through them, readying to move.

Thornhill, growls and says, "You want first blood little bug? You got it!" and slashes into the pixie with a heavy blow that still has enough power to cleave into Tethe as well. As he does so, his raptor claws at Cyrta as well (minor).

Note that I've already factored in Vulnerability.

Thornhill's standard attack does 7 damage to Cyrta and 2 damage to Tethe.
The minor attack does 5 damage and Ongoing 1 damage (save ends) to Cyrta.

Skaimos managed to successfully pull the bolt out from his arm. He had something special in mind for Thornhill, but he would need time. He put a small psionic shield up while he tried to gather up his energy.

The naginata wielder decides to compete with the crossbowman for Skaimos's head and takes a swing at him while his raptor scratches at Tethe as they pass by (minor).

I've factored in resistance.

Skaimos takes 3 damage and Tethe takes 2 and Ongoing damage 1 (save ends).

This was happening. They were fighting Thornhill, without her. She would sit and weep as her companions lay their lives on the line to kill their pursuer. That was unacceptable. As much as he had taken from her, it was about time she took something back, and kept what shreds of honor she could muster from blowing away with the sand. The words of her friends from a few minutes echoed in her head. Fear and destitution would be her fuel. She stood, staring down Thornhill, anger and hatred building. Her skin flushed, changing from sea green to pale purple. Her aqueous hair shifted and hardened into crystalline spines. Her eyes flared, and sparks danced around her as the smell of ozone permeated the air. She felt herself slip towards some unseen edge, drawn by the simplest, most primal thought.

Kill.

Tordek observes the situation. Lots of men, all on raptorback, and they seem to be going after the pixie. The least he can do is offer them a different target. Aided by the strap, Tordek swings his axe with such incredible speed that the dwarf suddenly appeals much more than Skaimos or Cyrta. Burying the axe into the swordsman, he spins it, taunting the other warriors.

"COME ON, YOU SLUGS!" shouted Tordek. "Fight a real man!"

For the first time the swordsman (and the others as well) notices the dwarf (what he's short and on foot while they're on mounts) and obligingly slashes at him (and misses) while his raptor's claws barely scratch through Tordek's armor (minor).

Tordek takes... 0 damage *facepalm* and Ongoing 1 damage (save ends)

The Pixie smiles in thanks to the Dwarf for his help... And then this time quietly awakens her fiery aura. Then shoots off fire at the Archer, The Crossbowmen, and Thorhill... The Fiery Companion Cube rams at the Archer for daring to attack it's Mistress.

The Archer notes that Alma hasn't been attacked yet and she's clearly building up for something so he takes aim (minor) and shoots an arrow her way.

The Crossbowman, finding his shot blocked by the dwarf's shield aims (minor) for Tethe instead.

Archer deals 4 damage and Ongoing 2 damage (save ends) to Alma.

Crossbowman deals 10 damage and Ongoing 2 damage (save ends) to Tethe.

Tethe grins to herself as she spits out a little blood. "heh heh heh. Now THAT was a good shot! Let me return the favor!" She yelled out as she charged the crossbowman, she gave a quick light jab of the spear as she reached the target, purposely wide causing a small bleeding cut and driving him further into her range. The magic stored in her muscles went off, causing her to spring back to a ready position like a blur before she launched herself. Driving all her weight into the lunge while her target was still unbalanced, piercing through armor and flesh. The very life essence of the crossbowman ran up the haft of the spear and into Tethe's own wounds, healing her as she pulled the spear back out with a bloody, feral grin.

The Archer fires a quick shot at Tethe as she charges his companion of shooting missiles at people and actually hits her spear, partially deflecting the blow. Of course he'd meant to hit her but... oh well, he accomplished something.

Thornhill laughs at his swordman missing the dwarf, "I know it's a small target but, let me show you how it's done!" and has his raptor claw at Tordek and uses the distraction to get a good opportunity to swing his katana past Tordek's shield and then cleaves into Alma and gives her a nasty smirk while he does so.

Tethe is weakened until the end of her next turn as an interrupt to her attack.

Thornhill deals 9 damage to Tordek and 2 damage to Alma.
Thornhill's minor attack deals 1 damage to Tordek and increases his ongoing damage to Ongoing 2 damage (save ends).
