Wow.
Cheese vaguely remembers reading about this a long time ago in a book about buffalo history. He remembers that the buffalo here were renowned as the most powerful sorcerers of their time, but he doesn't remember what happened to them.

The mention of the buffalo triggers a memory. Disjointed sentences, mostly, said by a stallion whose voice sounds familiar...

Blackhawk, not having much else to do, noticed Cheese's discomfort almost immediately. He frowned. "You feelin' okay there?" he whispered, concern etched along his brow and even in his cheekbones a little bit.

The group stops walking as they reach a very tall and thick cherry tree that literally has thousands of branches chock-ful of cherries, despite the many ponies bucking the cherries down into waiting baskets.
"This is our first tree," the guide says proudly. "Miss Jubilee dropped a cherry pit here by accident one day, and the next day it had already sprouted into a sapling. That was how she knew this place was so fertile. We've cared for the tree ever since, and it's rewarded us considerably. This tree alone produces a good third of our cherry output every year."

"We're not sure how big it is," the guide admits sheepishly. "Every time we measure it, it seems to be a different height... as for age, it's about ten years old. Proof of its quick growth."

The guide shrugs. "The experts think that the buffalo kept overlaying the spell every year or so to make it stronger and to make it last longer. Obviously it worked pretty darn well."

Brittle senses some very powerful spells of fertility on the soil that's clearly being funneled towards the trees, although the big one is claiming a lot of it. There are massive signs of the fertility magic working on the tree, although Brittle gets the idea that some of it has had unintended consequences like erratic growth patterns.
A consciousness touches Brittle's mind, not speaking in words or even trying to communicate. It's just there, giving Brittle the distinct impression that it's the tree touching his mind.
