Re: Post Your Campaign Ideas!
So, I already am having trouble updating my circus campaign in a timely fashion. Obviously the answer is to start a second one, right?
I've been thinking about an adventure campaign, one with a musical theme. Each player controls a musician, en route to the crystal empire for a festival celebrating Shining Armor and Cadence's anniversary, and become involved in a plot featuring the crystal heart. It would be more plot driven than the SoL campaign I'm running right now.

Re: Post Your Campaign Ideas!
Speaking of starting up a new campaign when one is already running, I had a dream last night... wherein the players of a campaign were seeking a mystical object of immense but unknown power. In my mind I kinda shaped it so that the setting was a ruined land, filled with old fortresses and relics of the past, and tainted by a curse that affected its people... and the treasure is the key to lifting the curse and bringing prosperity to the land once more. Basically, it'd be a lot like Dark Souls II...

Treasure hunting for the Greater good! Wooo!(although I don't know what Dark Souls II is)
I love the other idea too. The first Pony Tales character I ever made was a singer...

Re: Post Your Campaign Ideas!
Yet another idea I'd much rather play in than DM.
You wake up in a vat of viscous green fluid. After fighting your way out, you find a map hung on the wall, next to a picture of a kitten in a noose. You're apparently in the New Ordinance Equestrian Scientific, Cognitive, And Practical Endeavors company's building number twelve. However, that's all you can get, as the map and the building itself are agonizingly labyrinthine. You may or may not remember how you got here. You may or may not know why the building is so eerily quiet. But you definitely know that you can't stay here. You need to get out.

Re: Post Your Campaign Ideas!
So, I've been thinking it might be cool to do a game, though I'm not really sure how to run one yet. As it is, I thought I'd share some ideas in case they might be of use to anyone here, or maybe see if it gets a vote of confidence out of anyone for something they'd want to play. The plain text is the open information the players would go in with, stuff in spoilers would be, well... spoilers. Stuff to ideally be discovered as the plot progresses.
Moonbound
The player characters fall asleep one night in their usual beds. They could be anypony in Equestria, living their ordinary lives, until something happens. In their dreams, the players encounter a vision of a dark-haired unicorn calling herself Meteor Shower, saying she is a student of Princess Luna. She begs for the PC's help, saying that the fate of Equestria is hanging in the balance.
When the PCs awaken, they discover that they are no longer in their beds. In fact, they are no longer in Equestria. Looking up to the sky, the PCs see a field of stars, with the sun off to one side, and another body in heavens. Not the moon though—it is some sort of planet, and those who are least decently versed in geography recognize the shapes of landmasses of Equestria and beyond. This place seems like it would be the moon, but it does not seem barren. In fact, there are forests, rivers, even towns that are populated by ponies.
When the PCs manage to gather in the first town, they are eventually noticed and brought together by Meteor Shower. Meteor explains that Princess Luna is is deep trouble, and that in order to rescue her and prevent a terrible fate from befalling Equestria, they must gather 6 sacred artifacts (themed after celestial objects) that have been taken by horrible creatures that are ravaging the land.
Legends of the Seeker's Spear
In the wake of the Changeling Invasion during the marriage of Princess Cadence and Shining Armor, there was some understandable concern raised about whether the changelings would appear again, and whether or not they could be dealt with. This led to the formation of the Changeling Infiltration Negation Group, or CING (“singe”), within Canterlot. Besides keeping an active eye out for changelings, they also sought to research deep into how to counter the changeling threat. This eventually led to the discovery of an ancient and obscure myth, The Legend of the Seeker's Spear. Found on an ancient, broken, fractured slab, the legible portions of the slab speak of an artifact called the Seeker's Spear. Forged by an alicorn, this spear was used to bind and seal changelings that had threatened an ancient kingdom.
Realizing the potentially value of this artifact, CING followed whatever clues they could to find the spear, which eventually took them deep, frozen reaches of the south. There, they found an ancient fortress, which within contained a room that held a tall pole about 5 meters high and half a meter in diameter, the top adorned with what looked like a spearhead. CING at long last thought they had found their spear. Research on the spear commenced as a base was a established within the the frozen fortress. Eventually though, CING's researchers discovered that the “spear” they found was not a weapon. In fact, they weren't even sure it was the true Seeker's Spear. The “spear”, and platform it was upon, and special crystals that can be inset into it, are components of an immensely powerful teleportation magic. It was eventually decided that there should be an investigation into where this magic would send somepony, but there was no way of telling what would be on the other side.
This is where the player characters come in. CING has decided to send a small group of ponies to wherever the “spear” goes. Their job will be to scout out the area, evaluate the situation, and if they can, report back. Because of the nature of the mission, and the chance that the ponies may not make it back, CING has tried to pick out self-sufficient and resourceful ponies to handle the job. Those who have sharp eyes are necessary of course, as well as those who know how to fight out of a dangerous situation will be necessary. So will healers, as well as ponies that can potentially keep a food source going.
With luck, maybe you will find the true Seeker's Spear and make it back to Equestria alive.
Reflection Revolution
Across Equestria, a strange shape has been seen inhabiting reflections in Equestria. Those who get close sometimes see the shape of a draconequus. While assumed to be Discord, he denies that he did it, claimed it would be boring to just go wandering around some mirrors and hope he would be noticed. Things come to a head though, when the PCs at some point in their day, look a reflection of themselves and see that mystery draconequus staring back at them. It jumps, reaching out to take hold of the poor PC and pull into the mirror, to a familiar, but twisted land. The Holy Solar Empire of Equestria. A strange world, where the events of history and the dispositions of those in charge are an opposite mockery of what they are in the true Equestria. The draconequus however, makes a deal with the PCs. Help him to take over this world, and he will return them home.

- Spoiler:
- Perceptive players may eventually notice that Meteor Shower has locked somepony up in the cellar of her house. Additional investigation will lead to discovering that the pony in question is a young alicorn filly that calls herself Lulu. When confronted, Meteor Shower will admit that she was trying to hide this alicorn who seems to be a younger version of Princess Luna. She will say she only had good intentions though, and was only trying to protect the princess from being kidnapped by the monsters taking control of this moon land.
The monsters themselves are eventually revealed to be beings called Nightmares, who wish to corrupt Luna and turn her back into Nightmare Moon, to have her act as a conduit for their evil will, and to bring all of Equestria under their dominion with her power over dreams. Their end goal is put all of the world to sleep, so that they may spread and thrive in the nightmares of all living things.
It's soon made clear that this isn't literally the moon, but rather a dreamland created by Luna. The Nightmares eventually invaded and seized possession of the 6 sacred artifacts of the land, which in fact represent pieces of Luna's psyche. Meteor Shower, being a watchful student, eventually noticed that Luna was having an irregular dream, and tried to jump into Luna's dreamworld to help her. When she found she couldn't handle it by herself, Meteor desperately reached out to anyone who might be able to help, which turned out to be the PCs.
As more of the artifacts are gathered, the dream world begins to shake and shift. Little Lulu begins to change as well, becoming more mature. The story comes to head when the party seeks the final artifact. The Nightmares make their last stand and try to stop the players from taking it. If any of the PCs have grown attached to the dream ponies, the Nightmare may try to guilt them by saying that they will be responsible for killing them if Luna should be allowed to be brought back to her old self and awakened.
Assuming the PCs are successful in returning Princess Luna back to her old state, they will greeted and thanked by her for helping her in time of need, just before the dream comes to a close. The PCs awaken in their beds, seeing that only one night has passed despite how much had passed in the dream world. They are left to wonder if it was all just a dream they had cooked up in their own head.
Depending on how things go in the campaign, there may be extras done at the end to assure the PCs that yes, that all really happened. This can include the actualization of certain items, or even characters from the dream realm.
So, in short, it would kinda be a Link's Awakening sort of story but with ponies in mind. Additional information may asked for about the PCs regarding their greatest aspirations, their greatest fears, etc, to help try to tailor the campaign to them. The idea would be that the Nightmares are able to read their minds on some level and will try to exploit that. The nature of the campaign being that of many beings are brought together in a dream world by Meteor Shower's desperate and random call for help would allow for a multitude of race and age selection, as well as providing a possible explanation for the Mane Six not being involved.

- Spoiler:
- After being thrown by the lesser spear's teleportation magic to some strange place, the PCs discover that in fact they cannot go home. Not right away at least. They arrive upon another spear platform, but the platform lacks the crystals necessary to enable a teleport back home. When the PCs leave the room the spear platform is, they behold a small, abandoned cityscape. The sky appears to be in perpetual twilight, with sun and moon-like objects rotating along the horizon apposite of eachother. It has been clearly maintained, but there do not appear to be any people there. There does appear to be a center though, where a large tower sits.
As more of the city is explored, the players can discover more. This includes discovery that there is an edge to the land, a near perfect circle on which the city is located. The PCs eventually discover that a small hive of changelings inhabit the city. Most especially, a place that that PCs begin to suspect may be where some teleport crystals are.
What precisely happens next depends on the player's actions, but the following can be discovered. The changelings in the city are serving under an alicorn, the hive living off of her love for them as they try to do what they can to maintain the city. Players who are curious enough will discover some history.
The Seeker's Spear as it turns out, is the landmass they have been exploring, though it's most functional component is the giant tower in the center. It's original purpose when built by the alicorn civilization was to help aide in the exploration of distance worlds, providing a vast and fast network for travel. The multiple platforms found within the city and upon various other worlds are conduits between the Seeker's Spear and the other worlds.
The alicorn will claim to be a long-lived survivor of a civilization of alicorns who created the changelings. The idea, she claims, was to help the world by creating creatures who did not take away the food of others, but instead fed on emotion, and could change their shape to adapt and help wherever they could, including the many worlds the alicorns could travel to with the Spear. In addition, they had a hive mind that would allow them to handle enormous tasks with ease, passing on instructions to their brethren. By helping others, the changelings could earn their love, and survive. It should have been perfect.
However, the changelings did not remain content. Portions of the hive's collective personality started to feel resentment towards the alicorns, feeling like it was only created to be a servant race. Things however, eventually tipped over the edge, when some exploratory members of the hive discovered something. A dark, psychic force took hold of their minds and started to slowly warp them, changing them. It pushed the local hive's feeling of resentment to the breaking point. Why should they serve the alicorns when they, the changeling's were clearly the superior race? When was the last time they got a genuine “thank you” for their service instead of it just being assumed they did what they were told?
The influence gradually spread, infecting other members of other hives as individual changelings were brought back the Seeker Spear, as well as other worlds. Some started to be aggressive, replacing alicorns to take the love of those close to them. When this activity was eventually brought to light, it resulted in open rebellion. The part of the changeling hive consciousness that hadn't been filled with loathing was horrified by what the rest of it was doing, and so the hive grew polarized between those that sought to subjugate the alicorns, and those that wished to save them.
When the changelings started to take over the Seeker Spear itself, it was eventually decided that the only way to handle the situation, and prevent the changelings from seeking total cosmic domination over all beings, was to draw as many into the Spear and cut off access to the outside worlds. The plan was for the most part successful, a majority of the rogue changeling population were trapped, and starved. The rest who remained away from the Spear would hopefully stay there. If not then at least they would be trapped on the Spear until they expired, unable to terrorize other worlds. The remaining changelings the PCs run into are the remnants of the “friendly hive”, those who stayed behind to make sure the Spear would not fall into the wrong hands.
Depending on how the PCs react to and treat the changelings, it can have different effects on the story. They may choose to strong-arm the alicorn and the hive into giving them the teleport crystals, and have a way back home, and perhaps to explore the cosmos, but that will leave the Spear in a state of contention. The players may respect the wishes of the remnants and not re-activate the Spear, in which case the campaign may likely focus on exploring more of the Spear. Most ideally, the PCs would be able to convince the remnants to allow them to reactivate the Spear, and establish a base in the city from which further exploration of the cosmos can happen.
The “Big Bad” for this story would be the psychic presence that corrupted the changelings. As the players explore more worlds, they would discover more about what this entity is and where it comes from, and hopefully stop it before it has a chance to topple another civilization.
Basically, in essence, it would be a Stargate / Fringeworthy sort of setting.

The draconequus however, makes a deal with the PCs. Help him to take over this world, and he will return them home.
- Spoiler:
- Celestia was a cruel ruler who ruled her land with an iron fist, destroying all opposition, even her sister, to attain total power. When a draconequus rose to oppose her rule, creating magic that would throw off her despotism, he too was thrown down, and eventually imprisoned in a stone statue to be eternally mocked and ridiculed. She then took the elements he had made and perverted them to her own needs, creating what she dubbed the Elements of Dissonance. However, the elements still had a small spark of their originally intended purpose. The holders of the Elements overthrew Celestia, making themselves the new rulers of the empire, upheld by an uneasy truce between themselves.
Deception – Applejack grew up knowing well how to swindle people with a few half-truths here and there to get what she wanted. Deception fit her well, and allowed her to generate propaganda for the Empire.
Cruelty – Fluttershy grew up being tormented by the world. So she decided to torment the world, and lost herself in her sense of reciprocity, growing to enjoy what she could inflict on others. Her sadistic tortures were useful for keeping the citizens of Equestria in line.
Apathy – Pinkie Pie never saw a sonic rainboom. She never was given the chance to see what happens to have a cheery day and have life given some zest. Her life has been about sticking to the status quo. Pinkie has reinforced her philosophy on the public, encouraging a citizenry that, even if they wanted a change, are waiting for someone else to start.
Greed – Rarity was a cutthroat businesspony. Starting off as simple clothier, she managed to work her way to the top by managing to take whatever chance she could to advance, no matter who stood in her way. She knew just what to do tip the flow of bits the right way, making the rich richer and poor poorer, and eventually grew to achieve a monopoly over nearly the entirety of Equestrian commerce.
Treachery – Rainbow Dash was always a pony you had to keep an eye on. She wasn't above taking bribes and going back on them in competitive events. When Princess Luna attempted to bring about an overthrow to Celestia's rule, Dash briefly changed sides before claiming she was compelled, and helped to take down Luna. She was also the one who suggested that the Elements replace Celestia as the ruler of the Holy Solar Empire. She currently works to undermine other nations with her spy network.
Mundane – Twilight had always been a bookworm and a spoilsport. She broke everything down in such a way that made the world seem a lot less interesting. The world was just plain boring to her, and she saw fit to make it so others saw it that way too. It helped that she had a talent for diffusing magic. The Element of Mundanity enhanced her counterspelling, and she gained the ability to suppress fantastic abilities, including pegasus flight and unicorn magic amidst other things.
The draconequus who summoned the PCs says he was the one sealed by Celestia, but has finally broken free in spirit of that which he is named for: Revolution. Despite the Elements of Dissonance working their abilities, ponies across the land are beginning to clamor for change. Revolution has thus broken free of his statue and, seeking to disrupt the status quo, pulled ponies form an entirely other world to change this one around. The PCs must seek out the elements and purify them back to their original state, that being the Elements of Revolution.
Guile (Purified Deception) – It takes cunning to bring about change. Anyone can demand change, but the Element of Guile brings the smarts to the table to make it happen.
Ferocity (Purified Cruelty) – Enough is enough. The point has come where one must be willing to show passion and dedication to see that the revolution succeeds, and the Element of Ferocity will be the spirit that light a fire in ponies' hearts.
Stoicism (Purified Apathy) – When others wear their fear in plain sight, others will face the blades being pointed their way with a stone-like attitude. The Element of Stoicism will help to serve as a rock on which all others can lean, helping others to show no fear to the enemy.
Opportunism (Purified Greed) – The time has come, the corrupt in power have grown complacent, and ponies yearn for change! Whether it's recognizing the perfect time to strike or coming upon an unexpected situation to make it work in their favor, the Element of Opportunism knows just what to do in the moment.
Freedom (Purified Treachery) – Speak your mind, there's no point in holding back. After all, this revolution is about freedom for all ponies. The Element of Freedom hates those that enslave and censor others.
Common Sense (Purified Mundanity) – As cool as some plans, or hastily thought out reactions may seem, they may not necessarily be good. The Element of Common Sense helps to serve as a ground for all the other elements, and can show that practical can be awesome in it's own right.
So yeah, basically a "mirror universe" sort of story.

Seconded!
For the record, though, I'm most interested in Nightbound and Reflections. The Spear sounds interesting, it's just that I'm personally more interested in those two.
(Any suggestion that I'm interested because I love evil parallel universes is completely and absolutely true.)

Re: Post Your Campaign Ideas!
Sweet, it's cool to know there's some interest in those ideas. Nightbound certainly doesn't sound like a bad alternative to Moonbound for a title either. I'm going to see if I can't sketch out a fuller campaign beyond the basic premise and get one up. I'm a little busy with trying to do Nano and a few other tasks but it seems like it could be cool to have a game a running.
And bah, alternate universes can be cool. Seems fun too. At the very least, I've had some joy in watching in mirror universe episodes (plus that one game) of Star Trek.

Re: Post Your Campaign Ideas!
So... Two ideas I have. I kind of want to play in them rather than run them, so maybe posting this here will get some attention.
First- more of a plot hook or a starting book for someone to develop. Remember the mirror pool episode, when Spike found a book on how to fix the problem, hidden behind a secret panel, unlocked by pressing a horseshoe?
That book. What was the deal with that? Who left it there? Why was it hidden by so many security precautions? What other spells might it have had, and who else might have wanted it?
The second is Equestrian Ghostbusters.
Okay, more properly... Equestrian paranormal investigators. Some kind of campaign built around players encountering, investigating (and most likely battling) various super natural threats to the world. Vampire ponies, the Headless Horse, the Shadow Pony, body possession, ghosts in general, Slendernane...
I figure it could be a fun game, and run the gamut for tones, from goofy comedy, serious drama, to plain old horror.

It's been a while since I've seen the mirror pool episode, but it sounds like you're talking about the magic book he found that he gave to Rarity that made her go green-eyed insane?

So, I'm not sure here is the place to advertise for it, but I'm running a Pathfinder game featuring ponies, using the non-FiM setting of Everglow, as described in the Ponyfinder fan supplement. Does anyone here play Pathfinder who would be interested in joining said game?

Re: Post Your Campaign Ideas!
Right, so, I just thought I'd throw this stupid idea out there. It's a campaign -- well, it probably would only have enough substance for a oneshot session, but whatever. The idea is that the players take on the role of fanfiction character who live in a sort of limbo where characters of unfinished or down-voted stories go, awaiting the day of someday, maybe, going on to the paradise of high-rated stories where they live in luxury/legend/etc. The drive of the story comes from an over-powered, edgy, red & black alicorn OC who tries to find a way to break the system and escape the limbo -- the players can either work with him, or try to stop him from wrecking things in hopes that they might actually improve one of these days.
There, I said it.
There, I said it.

Re: Post Your Campaign Ideas!
So, at this point I'm just throwing out other ideas for people to pick up since I know I can't run them, but a little while back I stumbled upon an art blog called Miss Pie's Monsters. It features an alternate setting where the land is divided between the Equestrian Ponies we all know and love... and the Everfree Ponies, a collection of ponies which include a wide number of types of "monstrous" ponies, such as vmpire bat ponies, windigos, crystal golems, and quite a few more!
The potential for conflict and adventure is significant. The Equestrian and Everfree ponies don't trust each other... but a few brave ponies are trying to bridge the gap. Will friendship, mistrust, or enmity prevail? Or will the players get to avoid all that and explore the perils and wonders of the Everfree?

Re: Post Your Campaign Ideas!
Wow. It's sad that the last post before this in this thread was by me, and with a similar setting as what I know have in mind. And also at the end of March.
Anyway, this time I've been letting such influences as the pony fantasy setting of the card game Buck: Legacy influence me, and it's now turned into a pony fantasy world of some greyness. The hearts of ponies are good, but evil infests the land ever since the progenitor gods of good and evil clashed, and evil triumphed. While horrible monsters roam the land and foul cultists whisper dark prayers, the ponies endure - and heroes rise to keep alive the hope of victory over evil.
...I'll probably be more detailed later, I'm tired and want to post something.

Re: Post Your Campaign Ideas!
So, I'm still tired and I still want to post something, but here goes. So, at BronyCon I picked up a game called Buck: Legacy. It's a pony high fantasy with Teslapunk and references to everything from Dark Souls to Gurren Lagann, where pony adventurers explore places, fight monsters, and grab loot. And I love it. With it as partial inspiration, and some random sources from elsewhere, I decided to come up with my own pony fantasy setting. The results are as follows:
So, in a time of low activity for the forum, perhaps what is needed is some simple fantasy adventuring?
- RPG: Reckless Pony Game:
- Once, the world of Tempera was as close to a paradise as any pony could hope for. Eredia, creator of ponykind, ruled with fairness and virtue, and the land was kept in harmony. This is not to say bad things never happened, but they never overwhelmed the good things – and most importantly, cruelty was a concept unknown to ponykind.
But one hundred and twenty five years ago, evil entered the word in the form of a wicked god called Malice. Malice did not bring pain, or sadness, or death into the world by himself – but he was the first to willingly spread it. He roamed the land, acting as he pleased to hurt ponies for his own amusement, and created countless horrible monsters to do the same.
Eridia and her allies tried to counteract his actions – at first with subtlety, and then with force. But Eridia and her favored creations, ponykind, were unused to fighting, and Malice and his forces defeated them, taking Eridia as prisoner and slave. But Eridia was able to seal away both of their powers, preventing either of them from acting directly in Tempera.
Despite this, the damage Malice had done was immense. Wicked monsters now roamed the land, causing chaos and destruction. Countless pony communities and civilizations were scattered as their members fled and hid from Malice's predations. Others had been corrupted, succumbing to greed and selfishness. All in all, Malice no longer needed to intervene himself to cause chaos and suffering.
Yet despite this, there was hope. In a time of darkness, the hearts of ponies shone with courage. The survivors banded together for protection, and brave heroes went on adventures across the land, fighting evil and injustice wherever they went. In spite of all that has happened to the world, ponies of many tribes and shapes stand tall, doing their best to keep the world from falling into utter chaos and misery.
Ponies have now begun to rebuild their former civilizations – but with hordes of monsters and wicked ponies lurking in the world, heroes will not find themselves unneeded anytime soon.
So, in a time of low activity for the forum, perhaps what is needed is some simple fantasy adventuring?

Re: Post Your Campaign Ideas!
Basic premise: Short one-off slice of life game where the staff of a train have all fallen ill or are otherwised unable to go about their duties, so the players have to step up and manage the train ride, make sure it passes its inspection, and make sure an important object onboard reaches its destination on time...
The catch: All of the player characters are undead (or some other kind of monster), and they have to achieve all that while not revealing their true identities...
Yay or nay?
