Well, I figured that we'd continue from where we were. Given kaji's quick thinking with the battering ram (I'd rule that it would use up a turn, but given the damage done, I think it'd be worth it), you'd be fighting a very injured NMM (Hey, even goddesses have difficulty fighting with shards of metal in their skull). So unless the dice love NMM, you shouldn't be dying because I forced you into this encounter.

Does that help clarify things?

I'd also suggest that try to plan for maybe next time you end up wanting to play with a boss build, try to have it be reflavored or something... For exmple in my game I had two bosses set up. Then my players ended up fighting the second boss with the first as an ally in the fight. If we were to end up with something like that I'm sure that'll make the skill checks feel like they did something and make the players feel awesome. Or if you had discord make the Celestia statue come to life and act as the boss that too would've made the whole scene feel more like Discord being behind the plot twist and not you Warrior the GM of the campaign which was my biggest complaint.

A GM has to work with the Players give them to work with. Try not to remove their sense of achievement cause that'll just remove next to all fun for us the player.

Well, I see your point, but there's one thing that makes that difficult: My monsters don't tend to reflavor well. What works for a Nightmare Moon build doesn't work for a Celestia statue, because there are entirely different strategies involved. In combat, Celestia is more direct than NMM ever was, and a statue boss would require a somewhat mindless plan of attack from the statue, which again doesn't work for NMM. Especially since the odds of NMM just leaving you to fight the statue by yourselves is a bit low, given that those statues are the proof of her having been tricked. So then I'd have NMM = the party fighting a NMM reflavor, which doesn't work in any challenging way.

That being said, there were probably better ways I could have handled the issue. A second boss might have worked, although that does risk balancing issues given that NMM would have fought alongside the party.

The balancing issue can be somewhat mitigated by having the "ally boss" only be in combat for like two rounds before getting pulled out or maybe giving a random minor buff to the second boss could help things.

I can totally understand the reflavoring issue dude, some things aren't easy to reflavor. Just try to be open the other options you've got to deal with when the Players pull off something really neat with RPing. Personally I say make it that Nightmare Moon can't end up "dead" in this fight, and give the players a RPing round two to fix things or end up in an SUPER-ENRAGED BOSS ROUND TWO type of deal. Well that'd be what I'd do. Make sure to NEVER punish RPing that's the backbone of this game system after all.

And that's all I've got to offer off the top of my head.

Okay, I just realized that Busy Bee is not at the top of the Initiative Order, so it looks like the battering ram was out of combat to make that make sense. (I suppose that it could also be justified since she did it before full initiative was posted.)

I'm waiting to see if there are any objections to the current plan of action before I officially post the results of the battering ram, though.

As for the flavor, tyger, it's a difference in style. You wouldn't expect a statue to fight like Nightmare Moon, or for Nightmare Moon to fight like the Smooze. They'd all have different styles, so I can't just reflavor it and expect it to have the same feel.

I get what WoMf means here.

In my Ponysona Campaign, the guys fought a big spider boss that tied up a party member and if they didn't escape in time, the boss would drop them to -29 health. It would be hard to reflavor that boss fight since the whole gimmick of the spider was "Lured in and then go in for the kill" and stuff. the Way rather than the boss itself.

So re-flavor! This is Discord's World, it doesn't have to make sense.

I mean really, if a horrendously ugly yellow jumpsuit can pass as giving Resist 2, I don't see why you can't reflavor one or another that you like as a squirt gun or something.

True... I guess I could try too... But none of them really are lending themselves to me as something I'd see Aqua as being able to do... Or in the case of that Wind Blade, I don't see it as something I really wanta try out. Strikes me as something not fit for PBP.


Edit: Maybe I'll take Blood Weapon... That'd be fitting given what she is and stuff.

Soooo....
I've been looking over the Art of War, and i'd like to do a near complete overhaul of Busy's combat moves: most of the ones she has now will never get any use because she's too busy healing and summoning bees, while the really useful ones don't get used because her pip count remains more or less static.
