The Sun Sets

Even a gentlecolt's patience can run short. The fact that Dodger wasn't getting as much sleep as normal wasn't helping, so finally, he snapped.

"Oh for Luna's sake!" he shouted, his natural Canterlot accent coming through.

Dodger didn't have a good feeling about the device. Well, no one would, it shot lightning. But he wasn't quite sure what it was or how to handle it - it could explode violently if he were to tamper with it. But it didn't seem to be doing much now, so he thought perhaps somepony smarter than he could deal with it.

But, seeing as the inebriated mare hiding beneath the covers didn't seem willing to let it go, then the best thing to do is get rid of the thing entirely. Opening the door, Dodger grabbed the device, went over to the nearest window, opened the window, and chucked it as far as he could before closing the window and the door.

It was then that he realized that, for a moment, he dropped his fake Neighagra accent. Well, the mare was drunk. She probably wouldn't notice. Probably.

Dodger tosses the small device out the window. He is rewarded with a small clinking noise as it hits the ground (It does not, obviously, manage to hit any of the departed gang, who exited the other direction). From where you're standing, it doesn't seem to have broken. Emerald, despite her drunken musings, does not begin to run out of air, as the blanket she put the spell on is not airtight. It does do a decent job of shielding you from the sunlight still sifting stubbornly through the window.

The test is, in theory, solid, but you quickly begin to find flaws in your plan. The first becomes obvious immediately; the clinic doesn't keep a supply of bodily fluids on hand. Within the lab, you manage to find a few samples from patients. Many of them are listed as taken from those who are suffering from the mystery illness. There are also other samples, consisting of varying... substances, but as a medical professional, you have no problem testing them as well.
Over the course of your tests, another problem becomes apparent. You have no idea what the mystery liquid is supposed to be or do. Instead of reacting definitively with a single other fluid, it reacts nominally with all of them. Most notably, it seems to discolor and coagulate the blood from an infected patient, while causing healthy blood to thin, and then boil. Though, whether it is reacting to the toxin itself, or just because the two blood samples are different, is debatable.

NOTE: To all waking players, you are now TIRED. You will suffer a -2 to all skill checks until you go to bed.

Emerald doesn't hear the clink, but did hear the window open and can piece one and two together. She stubbornly maintains her mattress-fort is airtight mentally, that nopony could possibly get in, not even one made of clouds or air. "See? Gone. You juss needed a push. Doesn mean I trust you. Don't try anything. I'm watching you."

She then promptly falls back asleep.

Dodger slumps onto the floor and sighs. He was used to long, odd hours, but never this much in one day. The construction jobs had taken a lot out of him - and while it wasn't work he was used to, it was good work, legal work, work that helped ponies and didn't hurt anypony... Well, anypony who knew what they were doing and/or stayed out of the way. The thought of nodding off was tempting, but it was his job to watch over her. Maybe he could spare a moment and report to the nurse downstairs.

Dodger went down the stairs.

"She's sleeping now," reported Dodger.

Star nodded contentedly, albeit while yawning. "Good. She should be fine for now, but when she wakes up she'll probably be both in pain and hung over. I should also... I think I'm gonna... I should probably... sleep..." She then fell over, asleep.

Jaquir was tired. It had been a long day, and his body count was up again. He trudged upstairs to his room, wedged a chair under his door in case the gang came back, and hung his cloak over the curtains to block the light from the sun which still shone. He was asleep quickly, but slept in short bursts, constantly exhibiting the instincts which had kept him alive in the wilds for years.

Dodger yawned and went to sleep as well.

Storm yawned. Its wasn't the first time he burned the midnight oil, and it probably wouldn't be the last. After writing down his findings, he tapped his chin and tried to consider what other approaches he could try. Maybe an arcane scan? Granted he was no unicorn, but he had studied some of the basics. Maybe it would yield some clues. Storm closed his eyes, and recalled some focusing equations. When he opened them, the world had a slightly redish tinge. He turned to the vial...

Your knack for medicine tells you that it is highly likely to involve magical ingredients, rather than mundane chemical mixtures, a scent of burned leaves giving away natural ingredients. This potion may just be what your looking for, but the answer of whether it is really Blue Moon, or something else entirely, remains elusive.

Looking around, there isn't really much else you can do here. At this point you'd need a medicine man or an alchemist to tell you more. Science can only do so much with the unscientific.

The hallway is... empty. Creepy, but passing a few windows you see that the ponies had at least enough coherence to find beds to sleep in. Most of them, anyway. The rest have curled up on chairs and the floor, keeping close to their invalid bretheren. One or two, however, seem to have less gone to bed and more collapsed. They appear to be the same as the pony you left in the cafeteria- unconscious, blued, and Cutie Marks absent.

Storm heads back to the lab. "I should find a bed myself." He stows away the vial and heads back to security room where he entered.

The security room is quiet as well. There is one security guard dozing in a chair by the door, but you manage not to wake him when you come in. It appears the rest of the staff has either gone home, or found better sleeping arrangements elsewhere in the clinic. You remember that there were several unoccupied rooms on the second floor, and you could look for a bed there, or just get to your own bed in town.

Storm heads up to the second floor to find a bed.

Storm retraces his path upstairs, ducks into the nearest empty room, and finally retires for the night.

The sun continues to shine, high in the sky.

End Day 1
Congratulations, you have completed a session. Not all sessions will be a single day- they may be a week or more, or just a few hours, depending on the gravity of what has been accomplished. For now, all per-session and daily powers and talents are reset, as are magic points.

Day Two
Star, who had fallen asleep downstairs, was the first to awake to the commotion. The Bartender stood in the middle of the destroyed bar, speaking with a group of other ponies. Their words were hushed, but were growing louder as they began to argue. Star recognizes one of the other ponies in the group as she shakes herself awake: Figure Head, who looks rather upset. There is another red stallion, the one arguing the most with the Bartender, and the rest of the group look to be standing around, waiting for instructions.
Dodger, Emerald, Smokes and Jaquir, all of which had found beds upstairs, all begin to awake to the ever-increasing noise of a commotion downstairs. The clocks in their rooms all read 10:15, all except the one in Jaquir's room, which read 6:01. Emerald, as she wakes, instantly feels the familiar sensation of physical regret of the last night's activities. As she wakes a bit more, she begins to remember what precisely had happened to her. The pain in her leg had returned, now accompanied by the pain in her head. However, it does seem less intense now, and the headache isn't as bad as others she's had.
(Emerald is now suffering from a mild hangover, and suffers a -1 penalty to all checks.)

Storm is awoken by somepony shaking him. A nurse stands above him, looking slightly panicky. "Wake up, please, we need help, wake up!"

"Bwuh?" Storm shakes his head trying to clear it. "Whats happening?"

Holy Smokes gets up, gets dressed, and heads downstairs to see what's going on.

Dodger slowly gets up, having been given a rude awakening by the arguing ponies, rubs his eyes, and looks around at the various ponies, trying to figure out what's the issue here.

Emerald looks out of her den. And moans at the throbs of protest throughout her body.

She hides from the Light of the Inquisition. It was out to get her, she made the princess angry, something...

Wait, no, she was just hungover. 'That's dehydration... Please, please let there be..." Emerald looks around the room for a source of water, be it a skein, sink, glass, vase, anything.

"Whu? Whass all the commotion about this early? Its only six..." Jaquir grumbled as he staggered off the small bunk in his rented room. He thought about yesterday's events in more detail than at the time - specifically the three deaths in the common room fight, one directly caused by him. In a town on the frontiers or deep in the wilds, where he usually travelled, the incident would not have brought much notice. Bunch of bandits got cocky, and paid for it. But here, so deep int Equestria, there would be consequences. The bartender might have seemed accepting of it, but that might not be the case - he'd shot the Pegasus casualty point blank with a crossbow, and the pony might simply have been intimidated into not commenting on that fact.
He was fairly sure that he'd given the bartender a fake name when he hired the room, and his distinctive costume that the other fighters would remember him in was stashed in an allley, but even so he decided not to risk carelessness and dressed himself in his backup gear - clothes that were rugged, protecting, and while not all-covering like his hooded cloak would change his profile and hide his distinguishing wounds while not instantly pointing him out as avoiding scrutiny. He packed his remaining, sparse possessions into a bag and then went downstairs casually behind another client of the tavern come to see what the noise was about. He kept at the back of the room, keeping his face always innocuously away from those who would recognize him. He made it to the alcove by the door, ready for a quick escape, and tried to see what was gong on.

Star slowly rose to her hooves. "This is just like... like that one time I threw an all nighter! That, in hindsight, was a terrible idea." She stumbled for a moment, before steadying. "If waking up is anything like being drunk, I will never touch a bottle of alcohol again. Oh! I really need to check on... on..." She shook her head and slapped herself lightly with one hoof. "Emerald! Tr... tr... Emerald Trick? Yeah, let's go with that. Her. The green one." She headed up the stairs. "I hope she's feeling alright."

SE:
"We need help, all hands on deck!" You don't recognize the nurse- probably never worked any shifts with her, and she wasn't there last night- but she obviously knows you work here. "We don't know how or when, but they got out last night! We managed to round them up and keep them contained in the hospital, but their everywhere inside, and we have to evacuate the other patients." She rushes back to the door and peeks into the hallway. "On top of that, there seem to be a lot in even worse shape- unconscious, discolored, no Cutie Marks." Her voice increases in volume and tempo as she nears a panicked state. "The ones that are still zombified are getting violent now. We need to find out what's going on and stop it, and so far the only one who knows anything about it, Dr. Medicine, hasn't come back yet!" She nervously dances around on her hooves "So come on, get up we gotta go!"

ET, SS:
Emerald finds no such water source in her room, just an empty glass and a bottle of the "painkiller" from the night before. At this point, Star walks in, finding Emerald in the midst of her bedridden search, still in obvious discomfort.

Jaquir, Stealth: 21
You by no means go unnoticed as one of the three figures not immediately engaged in the conversation, but the only ones there to pick you out from the fight were your allies- the Bartender, Smokes, and the pony that came along with the Pegasus nurse. The rest of the crowd takes little interest in you.

Meanwhile, it isn't hard to tell to the three of you that the argument is about the three dead bodies lying a few feet away. The Mayor is conversing with the Bartender, and the general idea is that he is not happy about this new turn of events. Figure Head is with him, but is silent, simply surveying the damage. He looks at each of you in turn, but does not react significantly to any of you.
"...and I've heard the reports about this gang. Vandalism and petty theft, that's it! And now I have to bury three of them, and you're claiming self defense? DO you have any idea how bad this looks?" "I told you, they had foalnapped a young unicorn mare, and they started the fight. She's still upstairs recovering from her injuries, if you want to get her side of it. I- we- acted on the situation, because it's not like we could count on any support from Town Hall to help. We didn't mean to kill them, they were accidents." The Bartender's arguments sounded defensive and flimsy, but his tone was unwavering. "Accidents?! One of them was shot point blank with a crossbow! That's deadly force... and..." The Mayor now has looked around the room, recognizing the supposed combatants- specifically, the terrifying Priest. He looks at Jaquir, and you can almost see him put the pieces together- Griffon. Close proximity to Smokes. One pegasus killed by a crossbow. He knows. he says nothing to either of you, though. "Fine then. It's not like we can conduct an investigation right now. But you have to answer to the families." "As long as you're moving them out of the bar, then I 'm fine with it." The mayor glares at the Bartender a bit longer, but then turns and leaves. He signals to the group of Stallions, who between them carry the bodies outside. Through the door, Smokes can make out a few wagons, and a crowd amassing.

Smokes looks over to Jaquire, or at least who he's assuming is Jaquir being that the creature is the only griffon in the room, and says, "I think we might want to exit out the back."

Dodger, being the only pony there since last night that didn't have a good reason to be, figures it's just about time to go and heads for the front door... but sees the numerous ponies outside. He then tries to make for the back exit.
