You pretty much did. I'm still trying to decide what the facts that he is A) still solid and B) apparently unaware of his ghostliness means.

Would Walk Through Walls let the sand pass through me harmlessly? It says it doesn't protect against magical attack, but are "Ghostly" and "magical" the same here? Furthermore, was that really an attack?

It wasn't an attack, but it IS magical - however the sand itself is not magical, so Walk Through Walls applies.
