The League of Extraordinary Gentlecolts - OOC (No Spots Available)

Yep, I'm nuts.

The Setting: Equestria, just after the FIRST rise of Nightmare Moon.

In an attempt to put a stop to Nightmare Moon's Eternal Night, Princess Celestia and her followers have been waging a guerilla war in the hopes of buying enough time...

Time for what, you ask?

Rumors abound the the Princess is putting together a special task force of the most talented individuals available for the purpose of finding and retrieving The Elements of Harmony, which Nightmare Moon has stolen and hidden, in some of the most remote and dangerous areas imaginable.

You are one of several candidates who have received a letter, offering you a position in The League of Extraordinary Gentlecolts, with directions to a remote temple smack-dab in the middle of the Equestrian Map.


A few lines that need to be drawn out:

Number 1! I'm not gonna take just any ol' six characters to come along. I'm looking for two things here:

First off, flavor. If there are two similar character builds, I'm going to lean more towards the more interesting one.

And secondly, effectiveness. If there are two similar concepts, I'm going to take the one that seems more useful, or would fit in better.

Number 2! I'm gonna be pretty lose about races and racial abilities, and even the rule-book in general. Feel free to use Genetic Engineering or the Joke Templates. Be creative!

HOWEVER. I want some variety in this venture; if there's two people who want to be a 2/7ths Draconequus, for instance, that's fine... but only one of them will get picked. Generally the one that's more interesting.

Number 3! Yes, the title is a pretty obvious parody. Yes, I'll be referencing it and my other favorite super-hero series regularly. No, I will not require you to do so; now, if you WANT to, all well and good; but it is totally and completely optional.

My first try at RPing here. If there is anything i need to fix about my character either for this campaign or for future ones please let me know.

Unless I missed something, the minimum for Attributes is 5, not 4. I personally don't care, the other stats still add up; but if you intend to use this guy elsewhere then you need to bump Precision up a notch, and another stat down a notch.

I'll get you on the Pending List though. Once I make one that is.

You may want to say if people should use the joke templates or not. The character who was made without one would be a lot weaker than one made with one.

The reason my precision is 4 while the skills are 5 is because of the Jack of all trades. it seems weird but i wanted to give an extra attribute point to my knowledge.

That's not the issue, though - you cannot have a stat lower than 5 unless you have Specialist.

If we're allowed Joke Templates, I may use a (Modified...HEAVILY MODIFIED) version of a Griffin-2/7ths Draconequus I made for another campaign (With off-site friends for the lulz.) Why? 50% Lion, 50% Eagle, 100% awesome, ~28% Draconequus=228% of what-is-that-thing?

Well since that other game got filled stupid fast, I'll try here. I want to play a young filly (blankflank), but there's no "official" template option for that as of yet. This is Citrus Twist as she is now. It uses this template idea.

Also, this build is old and obsolete now, so technically she's not done. So ignoring Talents for now, and focusing on the idea and template, would that be acceptable, or do I need to genetically engineer her instead (complete rebuild)?

EDIT: Or, if you're willing to wait a bit, I'm working on molding my ultimate character to fit the PT system (now that there's GE, I can do that. Kind of.) But his form and background are so far pretty much unheard of in this system, and as a bonus, at one point he went through a superhero phase, so I'll bet he fits right in. But it's going to take a bit to finalize his sheet.

I don't think I can accept a blank-flank without quite a bit of re-working. I'm not saying it's impossible, it just throws a couple of curveballs that I'm not sure how to catch.

Firstly, GMing via forum is a bit of a new art for me. In particular, if and when Citrus receives her Cutie Mark, the +10 effect (according to the supplement you linked) lasts for two "sessions". I've been meaning to ask about it; how long is a "session" on a PBP game? That info would be a big step in the right direction for this idea.

From a more in-character perspective, I don't think Celestia would send a young filly on a task of this caliber unless there was some truly amazing quality to her that could not be found elsewhere. What that quality might be, I'll let you figure out.

So, whether you re-work Citrus Twist, or finish this other character, I don't care. Take your time, I've got plenty.

I hadn't considered the possibility of her ACTUALLY getting her Cutie Mark, to be honest, but what a "session" is is up to you. It could be time based, say, 3 days worth of posts, or a weeks worth of posts, etc. Or it could be content based- what all is accomplished in the game. By that move a session could take months, though. I'm still on the "prologue session" of my campaign.

As for her "truly amazing quality", if you take a look at her current combat build, she was meant to be that unexpected "sleeper" character, where she doesn't seem capable of anything significant, and then turn 4 rolls around and she decimates the enemy in one go. But that's hardly a decent excuse from a story perspective, and since I'm redoing those anyway... Her primary draw was how she would be RP'd. She's definitely a unique personality, in that NO ONE plays a filly in these games. Baby Dragon maybe, but not a filly. Between the innocence and naivete, she'll be a good offset to the 5 "Champion of Ponydom" Superhero-types that she'd be working with.

As for why Celestia would send her, I don't claim to understand the Princess' intent, nor question her methods.

Champion? My character? Eh, heh, heh...But yeah, I'll say it's mostly because of official rules (Or lack thereof) concerning fillies as a whole. I had a couple of interesting 'kid-hero' concepts, but without a lot of work to make it work...Yeah. But yeah, I see what you mean.

I'm not unwilling to work a Blank-Flank, she just needs the right flavor, with perhaps some minor octane boosts.

Ooh! Maybe she could be similar to Dorian Grey, from the movie I'm making fun of! Lols.

I'm thinking of trying to build a clockwork alicorn player, with ties to my own campaign, who's got a very convulted backstory that is a total mystery to everyone inculding herself.

That sound alright?

And when it comes to sessions in PBP, best to play it by ear. Try to plan it if the game is moving right along siwmingly to have a session equal one real world week. Or if the plot's moving too slowly make the session end by major scene that we get through and stuff.

It's more a change that's planned to happen. Eventually all the races be getting upgrades and stuff.

Alicorn, a winged unicorn. Clockwork, a system of gears and stuff... A clockwork alicorn is a robotic pony with both a unicorn horn and wings. Don't think I'll build it with a Cutie Mark... It'll make things interesting.

Also, Ponykinisis that be one racial point or two in this campaign? I think that'll be the big make or brake point of having a cutie mark or not...

Well, last time I was in Engineering, a utility talent as a racial feature cost 2 points, with the exception of Freaky Knowledge and It Almost Like Flying (which each took 1 point) and Flight (which took 3).

Sooo, maybe I missed something, or haven't heard something else... but I'm gonna go ahead and let you have it for 1 in any case. I'm playing pretty fast and loose with the rules here; make it flavorful enough and I'll let you get away with murder, probably.
